Sirius NFL Radio - Pat Kirwin

Post by frankcal20 »

Not sure if any of you guys heard the show but a VERY intelligent caller called in today to congratulate Pat Kirwin for stepping out on a limb and saying that while the Redskins are most likely not going to be a playoff team, based on his conversations with Shanny and Bruce Allen (who's a close friend) this team is stacked. We, I mean this intelligent caller, had a 15 minute conversation about the overall improvement on both Lines and the WR production as a whole.

It was said that if a team, and that's any team, thinks they can come in and just show up, they've got another thing coming for them. He made a point to say that Hasslet will have this team kicking butt this year and that he's going to send pressure from every which way. No one will have a clue until they're hit.

Sounds like that caller was brilliant. Spot on!

I'm hopeful. Optimistic. Playoff team? It'd be nice, but I don't expect it. I think we're headed in the right direction, though. That's enough reason for optimism.

It does sound like that caller was of exceptional intelligence. Well, being a Skins fan proves said caller to be of a higher caliber than your run of the mill football fan. I think 8-8 will show good progress, but I am expecting at least 9 wins.

Pat Kirwan is cautiously optimistic about this franchise as he should be

It's a fact that the attitude and energy has changed here - THIS is being noticed

we can see that we have made some progress and that in various areas we will see better results on the field

We do NOT have a really good QB in place - there was no QB available that made these guys reach like the former idiots here might have done
We will get a QB - we need to see where we stand with these 2 FIRST - can we get decent play from them over the season AND how do we best transition to getting the new QB ready to be great

I see this season as being a good step to building a decent O line with DEPTH and the 3-4 defense will continue to evolve and become a force

we are not a playoff team YET but we will be surprised at how competitive this group is

we have been badly disapointed in the results we have seen after CLEARLY 'winning' the off season trades & player acquisition battles the past 12 years

there's a VERY different group in charge here now and this season will see MORE progress
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Why do you always do this, SJ? Whatever position/team is being discussed, you say we don't have a great player/team there. You say player/team X is good, but we will have to wait a few years before we will have a really good or great one. I say we have several stars on the roster right now, and we are a potential playoff team, that will turn many heads this year.

Something a lot of folks don't know is that Santana had about 1100+ yds receiving. AA put up over 800 yds and so did Gaffney.
Where we struggled last year was in the TD category. But we all knew that. I think a good % was play calling. Run Run Pass in red zone. Sorry.

I don't ALWAYS do this

I love how you ALWAYS exaggerate too

Neither Beck or Grossman are going to become a really good QB
HOPEFULLY one or both can give us decent play at this position until we can get a really good QB ready to be the starter

I am encouraged by what has happened and I think we are a "potential playoff team" but then again so are about 25 NFL teams this year

We ARE going to surprise a lot of teams but that is because the opinion of this franchise is VERY low - this franchise has IMPROVED
we are making good progress but I do not see this franchise as putting a consistently competive product on the field each and every week - this season

btw - I also do NOT think it's going to take "a few years" to get a lot better

get with it mate - you are ALWAYS misreading or reading too much in my posts, aren't you

no worries - I'm looking forward to watching this franchise play VERYwell this year

Here's a perfect example. How do you know Beck won't become the next Drew Brees, and become great later in his career?

We don't know that - it would be great - I think that Mike S will do EVERYTHING he can to help him but it is against all odds that Beck becomes a VERY GOOD QB

I don't buy lottery tickets either

I have the $3 bet on Bodog that pays me $86 bucks when the Redskins win the NFC East this season.

I will be at my River Condo in Laughlin, NV this weekend. I plan on cruising by the sports book to see what fun little bets they have available.

I think the Reskins will EXCEED expectations of both the media and the fans

My expectations are for a W-L record of 8-8

I'd be ecstatic with a 10-6 and John Beck becoming the next Drew Brees (as the 'Dead' man aluded to)

I do not bet but the odds will be hard to resist for those that like to wager their hard earned cash

Yeah I'll be wagering Skins to playoffs but I'll most likely wager a bit more than $3.

frank - I think that's a good 'bet' for a lot of reasons

the odds and the fact that the other teams in the NFC East have not done as well with this shortened offseason

You can finally see the team building the right way. We have young pieces that will be able to play together for a while. We can supplement through FA the way it should be.

The only question is QB. I hope Beck revives his career and becomes the guy. It is possible.

Pat Kirwan and many others would be a lot more excited IF we had a really good QB

NOT saying that these 2 cannot get it done - ACTUALLY - I've been impressed with Beck
Beck & Grossman can handle the QB position for this season - we can then plan accordingly to whose available and how to best go forward at the end of this season

some here think that Beck is going to get it done - that would be fantastic but is unlikely

The QB needs to be really good - then again we are still getting the pieces in place

I was following your convo and you took the words right out of my mouth my fellow DeadHead.....None of us know where Beck is on the potential chart for he could have a lot of talent that just needs to be brought out by the right person as the samething happened with Brees. Brees actually got some playing time his first few years in the league and he was pretty bad but then they changed the angle on his release so when the ball came out it was at the highest point which helped get the ball over the big uglies and added some more zip. Beck doesn't necessarily need that but more playing time and a few adjustments and lots of film work. Even though we don't know if Beck will be the starter yet I really believe he's found an offense that suits his abilities with bootlegs and the PA and hopefully we end up with a great running game so he only has to throw the ball around 15 times a game.
