Old Friend Derrick Dockery

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Old Friend Derrick Dockery

Post by Skinsfan55 »

In his prime Dockery was a road grader. He is a super strong power blocker who has 111 starts in his pro career. The Bills made him one of the highest paid guards ever in 2007 and despite the fact he played at approximately the same level he did in Washington they released him. The Redskins re-signed him and again, despite the fact that he played as well as he ever did, he just didn't fit the ZBS.

Dock just had a try out with the Ravens but they signed Jason Murphy instead. That's gotta be a near career ender for Dock. He was passed up for a fringe player who has never even appeared in an NFL game. I always liked Dockery, I think he's a class act who goes out, does his job and doesn't complain. At 29 it seems like he must still have a lot in the tank, and with teams like Buffalo having guard battles between Andy Levitre and Chad Rinehart it's puzzling that he can't seem to get a job.

We may have seen the last of him.

I don't think so. There are a lot of quality players out there right now not on teams. See this is the time for teams to find a guy. With Dock, you know what you're gonna get and most likely the Ravens brought him in for a look in case this young guy doesnt work out. Expect to see dock play this year but it's not going to happen until after cuts are made.

I agree with Frank. Vets like Dock have little chance of making an opening day rosters since their contract will be guaranteed the rest ofd the season if they get cut. Vets Lke Dock, usually get picked up during the season when someone goes down. He will get picked up.

As far as being a great guy, Skinsfan. I agree. As a Texas Longhorn fan, I have always liked Dock, but unlike you, I have always recognized Dock for what he is - a very good road grader type of guard. Average pass protector and horrible at playing in space i.e. ZBS and pulling. His feet are two slow.

I love Dock for the person he is and the work he did for the Skins, but I am realistic about his football ability - great potential but never overcoming his weaknesses. That is why he wasn't sought after n the free agency period and why he will probably have to wait till after game 1 to be picked up.
