Roy Helu could send Ryan Torain to third string—The rookie out of Nebraska could have the second-most carries from game to game behind Hightower. This is far from a lock since Torain was the team’s leading rusher last year and he was very effective at times. But Helu has a burst that no other back on the roster has and it would be hard to keep him on the bench.
This is being said before the Ravens game. We will need Torain's hard running against them. If Helu has a big game against the Ravens then we might be talking about elevating Helu to #2 but Torain will not be cut. The Cardinals might be eyeing one of our running backs for trade to replace Matthews.
I think a lot of teams are eying our running backs. Royster may be the odd man out, but he wouldn't make it through waivers for us to get him on the PS.

The play where Helu impressed me the most was 1 that was called back on a penalty. Davis caught a pass & fumbled. Helu hustled & recovered it. Like I said, the play didn't count, but I liked what I saw from the kid.

I know what you mean and you are right. Helu made the type of play that coaches love to point out as the type of hustle that wins close games.

Yep. The play got called back, but the coaches won't care about that when they watch the tape.
After watching the Bucs game, It looks like a three pronged running attack of Hightower, Helu and Torain. Hightower clearly number one, Helu will prbably #2 on paper only. I think Grant Paulsen is calling it right with Torain sometimes being the first back off the bench behind Hghtower.

He said that Hightower is #1. Helu # 2 and Torain should be #3 stepping in to relieve Hightower or Helu.
Royster seems assured of passing through waivers with his fumble and a mild concussion injury. Royster is proving to be an excellent decision maker with his cuts. He is a forward runner - the only time he loses yardage is when he gets trapped in the backfield because somebody missed a block. Draughn never got the opportunity to show much in games, but he may have shown enough in practice to stick on the PS as well.
Have no idea what Shanny is going to do with Keiland Williams.
I don't think there's going to be a true pecking order past the #1 RB spot. Torrain and Helu are going to go in dependent of the play called and the current situation. Heck, against the G-men I'd be more inclined to believe that Torrain will be #2. We need somewhere in there that can bang with those big bodies and deliver some hurt. Now when the 4th quarter rolls around, I'd hit them with Helu.
The Giants get us with this all the time. They'll pound away with Jacobs and then Bradshaw comes and the defense hasn't had a chance to react to the difference in speed and get gashed.

The shanny Zbs + 3 RB's who can bang is going to be fun to watch. I think that even with 8 in the box we'll be able to grind out first downs.

Last week, we learned that Hightower is the primary carrier of the rock. Helu is first off the bench and we are still left wondering where Torain fits in.
It was only one game, does anybody think that we will see something different this week?
I still see Hightower getting 20 carries or more, but if the running game really gets going, I expect to see more of Helu. The fact that Torain was not inactive last week to me, says that Shanny had Torain in mind for the Giants game. Why else would he have a 3rd teamer who does not play special teams active? If he is active for Arizona and the running game takes off, I expect to see Torain in as well and not necessarily as coming in behind Helu.
i like that idea. i could see torain being the second man up this week to see if he can get it going. our passing game is going to be on display....we might have some big gains from the running attack.

Hightower is the RB - Helu/Torrain will be used as the situation suits - we will be a run oriented offense until the O line has had some time together
If we need to go to a pass oriented offense I hope John Beck is in the game
We have only had a little time to get things together here - I think the passing game could become a strongpoint but .... let's give it a little more time
