Andre Carter Joins the Patriots

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Andre Carter Joins the Patriots

Andre Carter Joins the Patriots

Taking a page from their rivals in the AFC East, the New England Patriots have scuttled the whole “build through the draft” mentality that won three Super Bowls in four years, opting instead to round up a bunch of big-name free agents who are much closer to the end of their careers than the beginning.

After adding receiver Chad Ochocincio, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, and defensive end Shaun Ellis, the Patriots have agreed to terms with veteran defensive end Andre Carter.

Carter announced the deal on his Twitter page, and Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com confirmed that the message wasn’t the result of an account hacking or a lost phone.

A 10-year veteran, Carter spent his first five seasons with the 49ers, and his next five with the Redskins. Carter recently worked out with the Giants.

The Redskins cut Carter in March to avoid paying him a $4 million bonus.

Looks like the Pats plan to use a lot of 4-3 this year. Had no idea that Andre worked out with the Giants. I bet they would have signed him, had Osi found a trade home.

They'll be OK.

This is the list of the Patriots draft picks going into the 2012 NFL Draft:

Updated: July 28th, 2011

1st Round
1st Round (New Orleans)
2nd Round (Oakland)
2nd Round
3rd Round
4th Round

Would love to see them come up short though - especially at FedEx.

Wow, our team was better then we thought. The Patriots are signing everyone we get rid of. What would we have to give up to get them back???

What is the probability of a new Sheriff popping up in town (New England)? Sheriff Gonna Getcha that is. Also known as Clinton Portis.

I doubt they're that desparate
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Nah... we knew what we had with both... If Haynesworth were to decide to play football, there is no one who can stop him... that's a simple fact. Belichick is betting that he can light a fire. Can he? Who knows... but I don't know that I'd bet against him.

Dre Carter is still a quality DE, who can get after it, in the right scheme. Again, we are dealing with Belichick... who has a reputation for just that kind of thing.

Those of us who want to see Haynesworth fall on his ass are likely to be disappointed, I think. Those of us who want to see Dre Carter get some, are likely to be happy.

Hey... lose some, win some.

Did anyone watch the Pats/Bucs game last night?

Andre Carter was getting his life on!!!! I mean my goodness, he looked like he was 10 years younger out there! He was flying by guys, getting super pressure, sacks, deflections, interceptions, touchdowns, touchbacks, cheerleader touch... ok, I'm going overboard but the homie looked real comfortable out there. I never wish former players good luck but I was happy to see the guy doing good in a system that fits his skill set.

By the way, I'm predicting it from right now.. Pats will be in the SB... vs. Us

I agree - it was great to see #93 doing well for the Patriots - he has always given his best, each & every play

He is the same player that we had here - he's just got a bunch of guys around him doing their jobs

It's always good to see how much better players seem to be playing when ALL of the players around them are all just giving their best effort and doing what the coaches want them to do

this is a team game and players playing together will always look good

I am looking for Kyle & Jim to get ALL OF THEIR PLAYERS playing together too this season

Looks like they are that desparate - The Sheriff is in town (New England that is).

Clinton Portis tries out for Patriots

Clinton Portis has finally emerged from hiding.

It should be no surprise that the Patriots, of all teams, uncovered him. They are the patron saints of player workouts.

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that Portis worked out for the Patriots Friday. New England has hosted a long list of player workouts over the last month.

They signed a few of the players. Most of the veterans, like T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Darren Sharper, remain free agents. Portis seems to be in the category of “due diligence.”

Running back is perhaps New England’s deepest position and we can’t imagine they would consider signing Portis unless injuries hit.

I don't know as much about these guys as y'all .. BUT ...
from the size of the letters used - I guess this is one way of making your point

Soooo ... I'll go out on a bit of a limb here & predict that Portis is NOT on the Patriots roster Sept 11

Ok, but you are 0-1, concerning Portis with the Pats, out there on that limb. :)

Seriously though, vets like Portis almost have no chance of sticking for an opening day roster. Usually, they are signed after the first game so that their contracts are not guaranteed. The Pats are probably kicking the tires to see if he fits their needs should someone go down during the season.

I'm a Portis 'fan' I appreciate all that he's done, I just don't see the NE group keeping this guy
I would love for him to be able to help a franchise out but ,,, I just don't see it
you might be right but we'll see

I do think that Carter will play the same way as he always has - this guy really applies himself
he tried hard here - I'm sure the coaches that have worked with him have all liked having him

This guy plays football hard - always has
