Longtime Bronco Fan's explanation of Shanny's QB Plan
Here is my theory, I admit it is far fetched but I see Shanny doing this.
Everyone is saying the same thing about Shanny moving John Beck as the starting QB. No one has any idea what Shanny is doing! EVERYONE is saying this. I think Shany has his eyes on Andrew Luck! No one in their right mind would admit to purposely letting the season collapse, but Shanny knows that 1 losing season could possibly yield 13 winning seasons. He knows that the Broncos are also looking at starting Tim Tebow this year and if that goes South, they will be in the running also for Andrew Luck and we know that they wlill not do a trade for Andrew Luck. Who ever has the first pick next year will have the option to either pick Luck or accept a SUPER trade offer from a team that really needs Luck. I could also see Shanny taking the offer for the first pick. Broncos have the most to offer because they can throw in Orton and their first pick to take the #1 pick.
They say that Andrew Luck is the closest thing to a sure thing in a looooong time. And he looked great last season and in the senior bowl,
It would be hard to do this kind of move if the coach and the OC were not completely able to trust each other and only a father and son team cold pull this off.
What are your thoughts?

Shanny signing Cofield, Atogwe, Bowen and drafting Kerrigan and Jenkins and trading for Hightower have shown that Shanny is serious about building a winning team.
He left continuity with the O line and signed a another athletic guard because who fits the ZBS system. Shanny knows that it is extremely important for the ZBS to have continuity and guys that fit the scheme.
Out the gate, last Friday, we saw evidence that Shanny has prepared the Redkins to be a disciplined team. No false starts for the first time in - can't remember when. Steeler Coach Tomlin could tell by how the Skins players played that this is a Redskins team.
Tomlin:
Being a big player in free agency and the way he managed the draft are a dead give away what the actual plan of Shanny is this year.
Sign high motor guys with strong work ethics that want to win. Just the type of guys to build a foundation of a winning franchise to come.
No, your theory does not fit what Shanny is doing here.

As a long time Broncos fan you know Shanshan has never had a worse record than 6-10 and never has had two losing seasons in a row. Heck, Jim Zorn went 4-12, with much less talent and while being publicly emasculated on TV by the things the former "GM" made him do.
No, this team will win too many games to be in the winning for Luck (assuming he remains the top pick in the draft or even a top ten pick). Luck could get injured or play poorly and not even get drafted in the top ten.
Nope, no one tanks a season for one player! Especially with our owner. If the Skins perform so poorly that they get the first pick in the draft (which they have never had in my life time and I'm 43) then someone else would be picking the player, because it is a 100% lock Snyder would fire him!

Hacienda, if you actually take the time to watch last week's preseason game... you'd toss your theory. Many here had the same kinds of thoughts a couple of weeks ago... but that's a non-starter, now.

You're right, I didn't watch your game. I'm glad your team is playing well so far, you guys play in a tough division! I hope your team does well this year.
Good Luck.

Hacienda, I edited my post since you didn't see the first preseason and game and weren't aware of all the positive things Shanahan has done this off season to turn this franchise into a perennial winner.
The one that remains a mystery is why Mike is so sold on John Beck. Perhaps, this Friday, we will get a glimpse of the reason this Friday when Beck starts against the Colts. There are Skins fans that feel that he will flop and Grossman as well, but as for the tanking stuff, it is not about one player. Maybe we won't be as good with Beck or Luck, but with the other upgrades that Shanny made it shoots to pieces any tanking theory.

Luck is going to be great but there are going to be some really good QBs coming out this year from Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, and Nick Foles to name a few. I really like Landry Jones and wouldn't mind taking him(depending on where we are in the draft and how Beck does) It's just stupid to tank a whole season. Nobody is ever a sure thing just ask Ryan Leaf.

Awesome post. I was reading this visualizing the poster with his eyes squinted, typing with one hand and holding a fat j in the other.

The league is full of "sure things" coming out of college that never lived up to the hype. Nobody would tank an entire season to gamble on a QB no matter how good he is at the NCAA level
Take a look at some of the NCAA records for QBs and see who holds them. Nobody named Manning, or Brady, or Brees anywhere on the list. That says a lot.
If Shanahan went 0-16, he'd be fired and deservedly so.
Now maybe he is throwing his faith behind Beck and Grossman because they are all he has and the only move available was something like Kyle Orton (ridiculously overpriced), that I might believe, but if he still has faith in Beck after seeing how well Grossman played last Friday, than I can't wait to see what Beck can do.

Not only is that a REEEEACH.... but it is not like Luck will be the only QB available in the draft. Is Luck a special talent? Maybe... maybe not, time warp to the 1998 Draft. Manning vs. Leaf. Both were "sure fire picks". I'm not saying that Luck is a Leaf pick but you just never can tell until they get on the field.
No, MShanny will not concede a season to better his draft status. Too many varaibles to play fantasty football a year in advance.
Here is to a productive season!!!!!
Go Skins!
