Laron Landry Situation
As someone who has battled chronic Achilles tendonitis, I can say that it would not surprise me if Laron Landry won't be able to play this year or very limited/reduced effectiveness. The word from camp today is he was held out to make sure it was ok, but his explanation of the rehabilitation from last year doesn't look good.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/foo ... _blog.htmlLandry said he is feeling more fit now, but the Redskins’ priority is ensuring he is ready for the season opener.
“It was a roller coaster,” Landry said of the offseason. “You have great days and then it flares up and you have to chill out. I can say about the last month and a half to two months that’s when I really started turning a corner with the Achilles. That was the most difficult part of my injuries. . . . I’m taking my time right now, a day at a time, and making sure it’s strong enough to endure.”
Not liking his chance of lasting 16 games.

Exactly. My podiatrist told me that the Achilles tendon does not get a lot of blood flow compared to other parts of the body and thus it takes a while to heal when tweaked/injured. The chronic nature of it is that because it take a long time to heal, micro tears can occur before it is healed and these can lead to a thickening of the tendon and then one day if it is not healed it will just tear completely and need surgery to fix.brad7686 wrote:I strained my quad one time it was better in like three days.

Good post.. I never even knew LL's injury would still be messing with him?SprintRightOption wrote:As someone who has battled chronic Achilles tendonitis, I can say that it would not surprise me if Laron Landry won't be able to play this year or very limited/reduced effectiveness. According to the Washington Post, "there doesn’t seem to be a specific timeline in place" for LaRon Landry's (Achilles) return to practice.
In other words, it doesn't appear he's simply day-to-day. It's too early to say Landry is a candidate to begin the season on the PUP list, but it can't be ruled out at this point.

Question: From your experience, would LaRon have been better off having surgery on it? If he had surgery this off season would he have been miss this year entirely?SprintRightOption wrote:Exactly. I don't know the extent of the original injury but when he said he has a few flares, that to me is him actually describing another micro tear. He is getting the latest non surgery care that I know of. The problem with this type of athlete is they want to push things to get well and this is one injury that pushing it will only make things worse which is probably why they held him out. I am not a doctor but I know the more I tried to do, the more chronic it became. The Achilles tendon is the Achilles heal of athletes to use the phrase. I don't know too many professional football players who had a complete tear and played to the same level or even played again. See Dan Marino before and after he tore his. He lost all mobility and became a pure pocket passer. The Redskins defensive player that just got released yesterday Maake Kemoeatu was recovering from an Achilles tendon last year when he was signed and he struggled all year. There is hope LaRon can come back but he has to heal completely first.Red_One43 wrote:Question: From your experience, would LaRon have been better off having surgery on it? So you knew that Kemo was almost surely going to struggle like he did at NT last year. Can you email Mike the next time, he tries to rely on a lineman coming off a torn achilles?SprintRightOption wrote:I don't know the extent of the original injury but when he said he has a few flares, that to me is him actually describing another micro tear. I hope they hold Landry out until he is completely healed even if they have to not issue him a helment. This would be the year to get folks healed. Thanks for the Info.
