Vikes to get McNabb?

Post by spudstr04 »

There have been tons of rumors that a deal between the Skins and Vikes is imminent for D-Nabb.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the "parameters" of a Donovan McNabb trade to the Vikings are in place, but agreeing on financial terms "could be tricky."

LaCanfora is going one step further than Adam Schefter's previous report, suggesting the Vikings and Redskins have agreed on compensation. McNabb's only motivation for agreeing to a restructured deal is preventing the Redskins from holding him hostage until September. McNabb still sees himself on the same level as Peyton Manning, so the contract is no small hurdle. McNabb does know Leslie Frazier from their three years together in Philadelphia, however, so that may be incentive to work out an arrangement.

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Vikings have agreed to send a 2012 sixth-round pick to the Redskins if Donovan McNabb agrees to restructure his contract.
The Vikings will also include a conditional 2013 sixth-rounder. Minnesota was also looking at Tyler Thigpen and Bruce Gradkowski, which tells you all you need to know about Donovan McNabb's value right now. The decision to abandon those two QBs also suggests a confidence that McNabb will agree to a significant paycut in exchange for a shot at leading what could be an explosive offense.

I would be happy with this trade. Seems like a good situation for McNabb, and we get SOMETHING.

Compensation from the Vikings reportedly only involves 6th round pick(s). I think it may be a couple 6th rounders because the Vikings have some additional picks in next years draft as a result of trading away several players (J. Mitchell, Rosenfels and others)

Don't forget, we have an extra 4th round pick next year from the Jason Campbell trade. 2012 draft might be similar to the 2011 draft with numerous extra mid-late round picks.

Two sixth round picks is fine. This team is rebuilding through the draft and needs as many picks as possible. I wish McNabb luck but I never wanted him here to begin with and am happy to have this embarrassment go away - especially living in Philly.

Very disappointing IMO. I get an email from Shanny and Allen saying what a great draft we had and we completely wasted a 2nd round pick.

You can't work with D. McNabb and leave that vital position in place with so much more to address with the team in the mist of a forced defense change?! (Also a waste. Should have followed Tomlin's example and maintained our Top 10 D while developing the personnel to make a change.)

I'm annoyed and unimpressed frankly.

I remember Mike Shanahan saying, on his show, that if McNabb isn't here for 2011, the trade will have been a mistake. It was a costly mistake, but Mike was smart enough to move on. To turn around and get some thing for that mistake is a great move and to make that move before camp makes the move even better.

Mistake is right, a 2nd and a 4th for one year of terrible QB play and a 6th and possibly a second 6th make us look pretty dumb.

It is better to admit a mistake and move on though rather than keep trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. This whole situation may get to be a bit more embarrassing when John Beck flops and McNabb gels in Minny.

What's hilarious is this whole situation shows how fragile McNabb's confidence is. I heard this morning on the radio that the trade was all done; the draft choices were agreed to, and McNabb was fine with the revised contract. However, the deal was being held up because apparently McNabb was upset at rumors that some in the Vikings organization preferred Tyler Thigpen, and was feeling disrespect.

Then I read more, and apparently, that rumor was true.

The one sticking point now appears to be McNabb's concern Tuesday night about how the Vikings' side of the situation was handled. Sources said there were some in the organization who expressed a preference in acquiring quarterback Tyler Thigpen, who has since agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills.

Sack up and play well, and guess what? They'll change their opinions.

We're not good at getting any value for our players back but we sure do give up a hell of a lot for them.

Normally I would agree with you, but McNabb has no trade value right now. The fact that the Vikings were considering Thigpen instead of McNabb speaks volumes about how other NFL teams look at him now. We had plenty of issues other than McNabb last year, but he was pretty damn terrible and all the rumors about him being uncoachable and not knowing the system certainly didn't help either.

sad, we get two sixths for him, while the Iggles are getting a top tier corner and a draft pick for a qb who has never shown anything.

Don't be so quick to knock getting two 6th round draft choices - Tom Brady came out of that round.

Diamond in the roughs are rare but here are some 6th round Redskin contributors since the NFL went to the 7 round draft format.

Reed Doughty, Kedric Golston, H.B. Blades, Jordan Palmer, Kareem Moore, Robert Henson

This year's 2011 draft Evan Royster, Aldrick Robinson (Mike Mayock gushes about this guy).

Round 7 contributors
Rock Cartwright
Rob Jackson
Chris Horton

Shanny's Round 7 guys 2010 - all still on the team
Terrence Austin
Selvish Capers
Erik Cook

So, I guess it's finally official - McNabb is traded to the Vikes

I understand that the McNabb deal did not work out but can all the detractors and posters that said we would get NOTHING and this was a terrible deal please SHUT UP

we did get a better QB than we had ( Campbell = :puke: ) - it did not work out - SO WHAT - it happens

we ended up getting 2 draft picks - we DID NOT CUT HIM as many predicted

please give this FO a little credit
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Good luck Donnovan. I pretty much mock posters who say we're stupid and we suck. But with the McNabb affair from beginning to end I say we're stupid and we suck.
