Are any of our rookies missing this deal

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Are any of our rookies missing this deal

this is amazing - not attending is a pretty dumb move

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The greatest threat to players is money mismanagement, and this year, one of the most successful coaches in NFL history, a NASCAR owner and a financial genius of his own, Joe Gibbs, will address the rookies on protecting the grotesque money many of them will make once the lockout ends.

Gibbs recalled to USA Today numerous conversations when he coached the Redskins that went basically like this: "A player would be upset with his contract, [and] we'd be in serious discussions. And during the conversation, it dawns on you, 'Are you in financial trouble?' That happens over and over again."

If it was happening in Gibbs' office, it was, and is, happening in many different offices throughout the NFL.

Very sad.

Some kids you just can't teach...they know everything. I was one of those. I paid for it in spades...but you couldn't teach me jack at the time.

No big deal at all. The symposium is way overblown and a one or two day event isn't going to make that much of a difference. The players have more than enough support around them (agents, accountants, lawyers, etc.) to be able to handle their money accordingly. Those that are responsible and want to plan for their futures will, those that don't care about it, wont. A little event with a few speeches isn't going to change that one way or another.

I think that it can be helpful for impressionable young people. Not everyone is done learning at 18-21.

I think it's pretty obvious from the players and advisors - people that understand the importance of good advice, that is free should have attended this function - you have absolutely nothing to lose and could gain something from it
PLUS, ALL expenses to attend were covered

it's no big deal but I'll bet the guys that atttended have a better idea of what's in store than the guys that think they wouldn't get anything from it

I understand that some players could not attend even though they might have wanted to - I'm just saying that this was not a very good decision (maybe a dumb decision) by those that chose not to attend because they did not think it was needed

I could care less - seemed a no brainer to me

No one should be done learning at any age.

This is unfortunate, but not surprising. I spend most of my time negotiating on the player's behalf in their off-field business deals. During this lockout, I have litigated 3 cases involving players who are trying to recoup money lost through bad business investments, often with indicia of fraud. Sometimes they rely on a close family member to read contracts, or simply wire money to some "business partner" without the benefit of any professional advice.

People would be surprised how well-meaning many of these guys are in trying to invest, but they lack fundamental business acumen and wind up getting scammed. Something like this could only help. They often don't engage an attorney until they've already lost money. A little knowledge from Gibbs could only help.
SPIT HAPPENS!!
