Some in the media say they will go out and sign a wide out in free agency, well if they do that they've filled 3 slots. I wouldn't mind and hope they resign Tana, but that still leaves at least 3 slots to be filled. The draft provided a look to the future, with Hankerson and Paul lining up outside and Robinson should be a good slot receiver. That's the future what about 2011?

Paul was a pretty good return guy in college but also plays on the cover units... What does that say about Banks who's still not 100% after running into the blade of a knife and doesn't/can't play on cover units.
Banks may have a better shot at keeping a roster spot than Williams and Kelly or may battle Austin for the last slot.

I'm with you. It seems part of his problem is the injuries that had him fall as far as he did in the draft. It's too bad for him, but to keep investing in a guy hoping that he not only gets it but is physically able to play seems like a waste.

It's anyone's guess with these four and you can throw Austin into this mix (heard he's been living in the gym). That's five guys fighting for two spots if they keep seven, if the only keep six then four of these guys will be looking for work

If they don't resign Moss it might open up a slot for one of them. Price may still be eligible for the PS but I'm thinking Johnson isn't.

Banks is undersized and one dimensional, on top of the changes to the rules for kickoff the team drafted at less 3 players that maybe as fast as Banks and are able to play on the cover team (Banks is too small). The details of his stabbing doesn't help in a battle for a roster spot. I'm not saying it will be a factor, just that it won't help.

Price and Johnson were both signed to future contracts in January and then they drafted 3 more in April. That's got to be a strong message that say's "We wren't happy with the production" directed to the whole group

I wouldn't mind seein Santonio Holmes in a Skins jersey a bit of a head case but a damn good receiver that makes clutch catches and try to hang on to Moss. Banks, Kelly, and Armstrong and let the others battle it out for the six. Let Kelly and Armstrong battle it out for the 3 cuz we could use Kelly's heighth but Armstrong was damn productive last year.

Banks was a rookie wideout and good kick returner with success in college Terrence Austin was a rookie wideout and good kick returner with success in college. Why did Banks beat out Austin for a wideout slot on the team last year? Was it solely kick returning? I seriously doubt it especially since Austin proved in pre-season that he was a good returner as well (not as good as Banks but good). Most teams do not like their return men starting at WR or wny position for that matter. Who was the best PR return man on the Skins prior to the Shanahan era? Randle El? Get Real!!! It is by far, Santana Moss. A lot of folks say that Randle El lost his edge when he became a starter (debatable I am sure, but it is worth arguing). Back to Banks and the one demensional thing. Clearly Shanahan didn't see it that way. Introducing Banks as a wildcat dude. Letting a 147 pounder run into the middle of the line - doubt that there were concerns about durability there. Some reports say that the knee injury limited his receiving duties - of course they did, you don't want to risk your top game breaking return guy to injury just by making a cut.

Hankerson stays! Armstrong stays! Moss and Skins come to a deal. He stays! Banks is the premier returner on the team with the potential to play more wideout (107 catches in the BIG 12 Division I college conference in two years). He stays! Kelly, tall guy, If he produces in pre-season and stays healthy. He stays. That leaves Robinson (limited KR experience in college, but can seaparate as a receiver), Paul (good return man in college, taller receiver than Ausitn and Robinson, definitely a better special teamer prosepct than the others) and Austin (leg up on the other two because he knows the offense and he is a good return man) for one slot. Rest assured that Shanny will not keep a draft choice just because he drafted him. One of these guys make the roster, Advantage goes to Austin for knowing the offense and special teams. Next up, is Paul for height and special teams and then Robinson, last because of special teams. Paul, Robinson and Austin are eligible for the practice squad Also, in the mix might be an unknown small college receiver, like Rod Smith, that Shanahan has been following. That, of course, would change things in a hurry.

He doesn't have the vertical other receivers have. I recall him missing high balls that a typical receiver would have no problem getting just b/c he was 3-10 inches shorter than the majority of his competition. And that DOES play into how you use him in a gameplan.

It will be tough for him to block a physical corner simply b/c his lack of size. I would say he's almost a liability on the field on a run play b/c unless he has elite blocking and leverage abilities (not saying he can't, but I haven't seen it).

We all like to pull for the underdogs, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. I don't think he can contribute enough on the offense to warrant his spot if we have another guy who can excel as a returner.

College isn't the NFL. It's one thing to play wr in a college spread offense, and another thing to play the position in the NFL. Colt Brennan broke all sorts of records in college. How'd that work out for him in the NFL? Banks is listed at 5'7 (more like 5'6) and 155 lbs. How many receivers in the last 10-15 years can you think of that have been successful at that size? Moss is on the small side for a receiver and he has 4 inches and over 50 pounds on Banks.

Again, I say let's look at the facts. Terrence Austin is a good kick kick returner in his own right. He is bigger than Banks. Austin, probably, as of last year, is better than Banks at the wide receiver position, but Shanny decided on Banks over Austin. That is a fact. Was it because Banks was so good as a returner that Shanny could over look the one demensional player that you claim or was it Banks was so good as a returner and Shanahan saw how K-State got him out in space and made him a threat as a wideout and felt that he could do the same with Banks on the NFL level? I believe it was the latter.

About Banks' college experience, just like any former D I college player, success at that level doesn't guarantee success at the pro level, but Banks' 107 catches at the highest college level say that he has the potential to be a contributing WR with the Skins. If Shanny can decide Banks over a bigger receiver last year, then for Shanny, size is not an issue. It is what can be done with the player is the issue. Who on this thread would have thought, prior to the regular season, that Shanny woulds send Banks off tackle on running plays? The fact is, to the guy that matters, Shanny, size is not the determinging factor on keeping Banks. Clearly Shanny doesn't see Banks as one dimensional.
