If I thought I could make a poll without screwing it up I would have.
Faith in Self is running low today.
Let's try a BLOG SESSION. (just vent, respectfully, what you believe)
Do you think Mike Shanahan will succeed in DC or not?
------------------------------------
I don't think so, but what fan of the team wouldn't love to be absolutely wrong about that?
It's always a happy flaw to get caught with a "boo" in your throat.
I don't think that Mike will do much here. He's not a good Office guy. He's solid coach. But that's the limit.
Living in KC (the home of "Shanahan Hate" in America), I've seen this "great pick" "good move" over and over. Post Elway, it added up to Mike being fired.
I'm not buying Mike as a Skins fan.
The WCO is on the way out of the NFL. Like the Cover2 Defense, people are figuring it out. It's a dieing program.
Mike's time is not a foundation for building but an Hour Glass running low on sand.
On the grand Dan Snyder scale, I don't believe our owner is even capable of hiring a football mind to run his team.
The only way Dan Snyder wins with the Redskins is to give total control of the Team (Stadium and all) to another CEO to run.
He is THAT bad.
So, I will humbly put myself on the far end of the Darkside Scale and only hope to be completely wrong.
The fun I hope to put here is to see people express where they think the team will be 5 years from now.
I see Mike gone after 4 years and the Redskins in an "Okay" position.
Basically a 10-6 regular.
Not because Mike is a good General Manager (his real position with the team despite Dan's titles) but because he's one of the best coaches.
Mike can coach.
The only way I see the team taking the NFCE reigns is if Kyle is the HC and Mike is the effective GM.
They are a GOOD team.
That much about this thing I do like.
Kyle will be a great Head Coach somewhere, some day.
But that will hang on the brilliance of his Almighty Dimness, Dan Snyder, to see the future.
That probably won't happen. Dan will continue to screw this pig until he gets bored with doing it (or the money runs out)
Nothing of the George Allen / Joe Gibbs type of era will happen until Danny sells the team OR surrenders control to a CEO.
---------------------------
So, that being my view of the dark side,
what do YOU see in the Redskins' future?
BLOG AWAY.
I want to hear how other people value the state of
The Washington Redskins and their future.
Negative or Not?

I am not a real Shanahan fan but I think he will partially succeed. I have been convinced since the hiring that Kyle Shanahan is being groomed as the next head coach. I am not convinced that Mike Shanahan can build a Super Bowl quality team again. I do think Mike will leave Kyle a solid foundation to build on.
This is assuming that 1) they last that long (Given Dan Snyders history of firing coachs, it may be difficult.) and 2) Kyle doesn't get tapped somewhere else first.

we are not as bad as we were and I'm confident that Mike & Bruce can get this thing back on track
I'm looking for consistency here and I think it's coming soon

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I wonder what the 1999 3-13 Rams fans were saying during the off season before the they won the Super Bowl that upcoming season.
I know what the Cowboy fans were saying last off-season - SUPER BOWL! AND where did they end up?
No one knows how any team will do next season - a season that appears to be a shortened season. Hmmm! That brings back good memories.
Off season is the fans time to be optimistic!
OK, I realize that there will always be those glass half empty folks. Well at this time you haven't even been given the glass yet.
We haven't even had a full free agency yet. Last year Shanny and Allen showed that things have changed for us in FA and this year, they have stayed the course in the brief released player FA market. Signed Atogwe and let Shaun Rodgers walk. So you can't say that things will be the same whenever the FA period begins.
Why the negative now?
A bunch of reserves, at the end of last season beat one play off contending team on its home turf. Darn near beat an arch rival on it's home turf after spotting them a 20+ point lead and then gave us our best game against the Giants since we beat them in 2007 and the Giants were contending for a play off berth. We did that with with 4-3 guys learning a 3-4 system for the first time.
Mike Shanahan's stated goal is to bring into the season 53 strong work ethic guys. At the end of the season, you got a glimpse of what strong work ethic guys can do on the football field. No one is saying all the pieces will be in place next season, but I see no need to be all negative especially when it comes to the team I root for. Even blind loyalty followers of the Redskins can see that there has been plenty of evidence of progress to be positive if one wishes.

nobody should feel too bad about how things are going here
we are a work in progress - we now seem to have guys in charge that know how to fix the train wreck of a franchise we had

I agree that Mike is building a foundation for this team, and he will be very successful in doing that. I think that Kyle is extremely talented and a great playcaller (even backed up by Pat Kirwin and Tim Ryan on Sirius today) and I believe he will hopefully be the next coach here for years to come.
Miss you 21

Okay Guys,
Here goes nothing.....
I think Allen, Shanahan and company have a plan and Danny boy is on board with the LONG TERM plan. I think Danny Boy has learned his lesson and has bought into the plan. He's sitting back and letting them run the show.
This is their second year beginning. Let's see what changes occur this year. Already I think we have just experienced the best draft I've seen since Bobby Beathard was GM. I think we have the building blocks of a very good team coming together. We may just suprise a few folks this year.
Our offence as bad as it was last year, with hurt people and all the scrambling of our line, was just one of those years. Even Shanahan last year in the beginning talked about how important it was for the offensive line to work and get to know each others habits. This year they should be much improved and maybe another peice or two will be added when FA opens up?
Our second year defence (3-4) is going to be alot better. We haven't
had a dominant DE pair in my opinion since Mann and Manley. We are
going to be feared now with Osakapo and Kerrigan.
This years schedule is easier than last years and if there is any football
we WILL see alot better win/loss ratio when it resumes.
Just my opinion.
