Willie Parker on the Redskins: “They don’t care about football”

“Being in Washington, they don’t care about football. I didn’t feel good from day one there. They weren’t about football. They were about partying. . . . You appreciate Pittsburgh a little bit more after going somewhere else,” Parker said on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh Tuesday.

Parker still wants to play and says he was playing hurt last preseason in Washington, which is why he was lacking explosion.

Sounds like a washed up player that is trying to make excuses for his lousy performance so someone else will bite and give him a contract.

I don't know. Given the way this team has palyed the past number of years I would tend to agree with him.

Me too, but that's all changing. Shanny is bringing in "football guys", guys that eat and sleep football... when they aren't eating and sleeping they are playing or thinking about getting better at football.

Then again "Not so Fast" Willie Parker was only is Ashburn for training camp, so how does he know what they were doing? Did he party with? Who is they?

Devin Thomas, Albert Haynesworth, Donovan McNabb, Clinton Portis, and Larry Jonhson all have histories of "being in the clubs", were some of the "they" he was referring too? Who knows considering th vagueness of his statement.

Anywho, he couldn't even beat out LJ for a roster spot and everyone here knows Larry loved the clubs and had no reason to have been on the final roster....

Maybe Willie should have been in the Tub, Gym, Playbook, or Film room instead of the worrying what other players were doing.

Oh thats whats been going on for almost 20 years now, the guys are just partying too much...hey fellas put down the purple drank and get to work.

Something tells me Willie wasn't hanging out with the people he should have been while he was here; maybe thats why he didn't make the team.

Not just them....Brandon Banks...Fred Davis either hosted a party this past weekend or its coming up this Sat. Most NFL guys go out and I'm not sure that that necessarily correlates to performance on the field as long as its not affecting on-field performance. Joey Porter, for example, was known to party (I saw him get thrown out of a club in Miami...hilarious), and he did alright for himself.

Well that's a bold bit of reasoning. ;) By definition it's hard for me to say I disagree.

Anyone who comes out and badmouths a team like that I have no respect for. What good does it do? It just makes him look like a brat who didn't get his way.

And if he's still got more in the tank and he's 100% this year, he'll pick up somewhere and his actions will speak volumes more than the spoiled brat attitude that comes across here.
...any given Sunday....

Someone said that, but I can't remember who. But I loved the quote too. I'd guess Yogi Berra if it were baseball.

If the team is such as Willie Parker describes then how is it that he was unable to make the roster over the likes of Larry Johnson? Not even the UFL has contacted Parker. As Pittsburgh was mentioned, one reason they are consistently successful is they cut dead weight like the aforementioned Willie Parker. A player with so few bridges remaining probably shouldn't burn them as he crosses. Feeding on sour grapes and pills of bitterness while the rest of the league moves on is unlikely to validate Parker's opinion.
