Former Packers tight end in talks with Milwaukee radio
MILWAUKEE
(AP) — Former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura has had discussions with local sports talk radio station WAUK-AM (1510), a newspaper reported.
The negotiation is about the prospect for Chmura to provide commentary on a Sunday morning football show the station is considering airing during the National Football League season, reported Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's sports columnist Bob Wolfley.
"I can confirm the fact that Mark has been in negotiations," attorney Gerald Boyle said Tuesday. "He has been talking offers."
Boyle referred questions about Chmura's potential broadcasting gig to John Drana, a local lawyer who is representing Chmura in the discussions with WAUK.
Drana declined to comment.
Chmura played for the Packers from 1993 to 1999. He played his last game on Sept. 19, 1999, a loss at Detroit in Week 2 of that season, during which he suffered a season-ending neck injury.
Boyle was the defense attorney for Chmura, when he was charged with and tried for sexual assault. Chmura was aquitted in February 2001.
Chmura now works for Boyle as a legal assistant.
Boyle said Chmura was talking with "ESPN radio," meaning WAUK, which carries ESPN radio programming in the Milwaukee market.
No one in ESPN radio or TV was in discussions with Chmura, said Dave Nagle, ESPN's spokesman in Bristol, Conn.
Craig Karmazin, whose company is buying WAUK, declined to comment on the matter.
