Don't Be Too Excited

Post by hatsOFF2gibbs »

We are all pumped for the next season but take some time and think about it. I think most redskin fans believe too much on JGibbs. I know he's a hall of famer but one coach cannot make a 5-11 team to a superbowl champion. For our own good, we should not hope for a superbowl year because, unfortunately I do not believe we will be that good. I will be happy if we have a .500 season or better, which Gibbs should achieve. Say what you want! I'm not at all against the skins or JGibbs. I am as much as a fan as you all are BUT don't be over excited beause you will regret it later. Next season is a transition season even though we have a hell of a team. It takes time for chemistry to occur, and Gibbs will definitly have great, great success in the seasons to come. [/i]

The thing is with Gibbs we know The Danny wont be dictating his will on the roster and let will let Joe run the team the way he sees fit. That will be a big difference from previous years the big name may be out there but if he doesn't fit what JG is trying to do he wont be forced on us

Come on man.

Believe Believe Believe Believe Believe !!!!

I can see wanting to be cautious, because of what has happened to us, the past few years. But this year is different.

THE KING IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Im sure as a Redskin Fan you would think that Gibbs is a better coach than Parcells. And look at what he did for Dallas.

Dont tell me you think Dallas did that on their own Cowboys, fans.

Without Parcells they went 5-11 3 years straight. With him for one year, they went 10-6.

With marginal talent.

I mean come on. Quincy at QB, Hambrick at RB. There best O lineman in a slump. A pair of unexperienced corners, a trio of unexperienced linebackers, and the reputation of being the Trash that surrounded Emmitt.

If these guys can do it, you know we can.

We got:
2 capeable Qb's
A top 5 RB
A top 10 reciever
3 pro bowl caliber O lineman (GO DIRTBAGS and or BIG BODIES!)
A bunch of hard-nosed blocking Tight-Ends

On D we got:
A better (still not stellar, but serviceable) Dline
THE BEST OUTSIDE LINEBACKER IN THE NFL
A top 10 MLB
An up and coming linebacker
1 former probowl corner
1 who is emerging as a Leader, and is Pro Bowl bound.

And a Rookie Saftey who is being called the next Ronnie Lott.

And those are just our stars, believe me it goes much deeper than that.

We are Stacked On paper. What will make that push to make us Great on the field? One of the gretest coaching staffs ever assembled. Oh yeah and one more thing.

MR. JOE JACKSON GIBBS.

OK I'll pretend you didn't say that :x

Seriouly, I would've agree with you a few years back, but this is 2004 the era of FA and a team can really improve year to year. Do I think the Skins will be in the SB? NO will I be surprised if they are? NO! To beleive in Gibbs too much...it that possible :o

once gibbs gets the confidence of the players rolling, anythin can happen. like most here, i'm not expecting superbowl. i'm not even expecting playoffs. i'm trying not to expect anthing. the only thing i expect is that watching the redskins play will be gosh-darned fun again (finally). when you're having fun, good things happen.

And don't forget the Giants' kickoff going out-of-bounds. The Cowpies could have just as easily been a 6-10 team last season. They will come crashing back to earth this year.

I for one am not expecting a super bowl win, or anything even close to that for that matter. Although we will have a significantly better team with the aquistions of portis and brunel, I thnk the biggest difference will be little things like dicipline and special teams. We have every opportunity to make a wildcard spot, and hoping for that is not farfetched.

I agree with you on the fact that I think some people will be dissapointed if they are expecting Gibbs to just come and take this team which has been a consistent loser to the superbowl.

In today's NFL, it is not uncommon for a team to completley turn around a franchise in one or two years. The Rams did it in one season after finishing in last place in 1998 and then winning the Super Bowl in 1999. Other similar stories are the Panthers last year, the 2000 Ravens, etc.

But remember, Joe Gibbs accomplished this same feat in the early 80's! He took over a 6-10 Jack Pardee team and in two seasons turned them into one of the most dominating offensive teams in NFL history.

The point is, if Gibbs can work that kind of magic back in the days of dynastys, there is no question he can pull it off in the days of parody...

I think Gibbs is worth at least 5 points each game. How many games did we lose by 3 points last year? Turn all those L's to W's and that's what I think our record will be.

I think a modest season that starts off slow and gains momentum in mid-October to secure a wild card spot is realistic.

However, I would not be surprised if the Skins won the NFC East and had a bye...at the same time they could go 8-8.

The Carolina Panthers are a great example...in 2002 they had a losing season, in 2003 they went to the Super Bowl. All it takes is chemistry, motivation, and a running game.

I fully agree with what you just said.

I also must say that I am very excited about this season. Just because we finally got a head coach that knows what he is doing. That is all that we have been lacking since Danny Boy took over.

i,m thrilled to death to have him back,me excited.lol
do i see a superbowl this year no ,do i see a possible playoff it could happen (stay tuned) but the biggest thing this year is that this team gets a new attitude.secondly this team needs direction .i see joe making this team very competitive from the start.it,s just a matter of time to get everybody on the same page with him.
this year will be refreshing ,heck it,s already that.dan synder just needs to sit back and deal with the buisness side of things and let joe handle the football end of it.
once the players understand their roles they will be very tough as a team.

no more fun-n-done

What ever, what the hell you mean marginal talent. Galloway, glenn and bryant are hardly marginal talent. Ellis, Glover, Dat, William, Woodsen, Newman hardly marginal talent. Flozell Adams, Larry Allen hardly marginal talent. Our schedule was dayum near the same as the skins. Oh and you can throw out that dumb stat about what ever team was over or under 500. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY ONE TEAM CAN BEAT ANOTHER, YOU JOB IS TO BEAT WHO IS ON YOUR SCHEDULE. Thats a B.S. cop out , cause on the other end of the spectrum i could say if we lost to a bunch of teams those teams probally could have had good records, then i could have been able to say we got beat by teams that all had over .500 records.

SO GET OFF IT....LOL.......and GF until you win a superbowl, you need to go sit in the corner and take notes from two championship winning franchises........

Yet more of the same from the Cowboy fan. Can't argue the point so he goes right to the old standby.

Sorry Gambit.....but I only fear two guys that you mentioned.

I don't understand what is so hard to see that you had an easy schedule last year. Just admit it. You had a really easy schedule. I know when we had Marty as our head coach we had an easy schedule, that had to help us out some with our 8-3 finish.

I don't understand why you keep on denying the easy schedule you had.

Because it might mean admitting that Parcells isn't the most super duper greatest coach in the whole wide world. Their record just has to be all about the Tuna.

I still don't understand why you can't say that Dallas had an easy schedule.

Kinda like Andy Reid and Jim Johnston arent super duper coaches either becuase for 3 straight years you guys made it to the NFC championship and failed to get the superbowl and now The Cowboys and skins are breathing on your necks.

I never said they were. Jim Johnson is a great defensive mind, but until he and Reid are watching McNabb hold up a Lombari it doesn't mean anything.

If this is going to continue to be about the Cowboys and Eagles, then can we please start a new thread in the Around The League forum.

This thread WAS about why or why not to be excited about Gibbs' return.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I'd hardly say "Stacked." Smoot isn't going to a Pro Bowl anytime soon, and Can't Get Right needs to step up his play if he wants to be considered in the same class as today's best LB's. No drifting off, no freelancing unless they call for it, no failing to back up the talk. I agree with the original post...the Skins will need time, this will not be a one-year turnaround. No depth. 7-9, or 8-8.
