Will there be a 2011 NFL season?
People in the media have really been avoiding this question, even though tensions are high and the talks haven't really gotten anywhere. Do you think we'll have pro football in the fall of 2011?

I voted that we will have a full 16 game season, but I also believe that this strike will end somewhere in the middle of what would be training camp. Right now, there is no reason foe either side to make a deal. The athletes are not drawing there salaries and will not start drawing salaries until the first regular season. So no money is lost, exept the pre-season stipends) during a lock out leading up to the first regular season game. A lot of the players probably won't mind not "having" to attend OTA's. The owners don't lose any money until the first game either.
It looks the owners and the players have set up a game of chicken to be played in September - who will cave first when the pay outs are missed.
I understand that there is a lawsuit to try to keep the Networks from having to pay the NFL for games if their is a lockout. That would be a big blow to the owners if the NFL loses that one.
Not sure what help the Federal mediator can do since he has no power, but I am happy that their is one because eventually he will have to write a report on his finding and we will know from an independent person who is really stonewalling the negotiations.
The owners want more money.
The players don't want to give up what they have.
This is why we are going nowhere for a while.
One of the groups will cave at some point near or during the season.
Despite all of the above, I want to keep hope alive for that mediator to be so good, that he actually is able to broker a deal before March 4th. So I will keep wanting to believe this until the clock stikes midnight March 4th.

It don't look like it right now. I don't think there should be 18 games, and I'm glad the players are standing their ground.
But I also, think the players have too big of a chunk out of the owners profit. I agree with the rookie cap.
They have to come to an agreement, but it looks like for the owners, it all or nothing. I understand the players have sent a counter offer, agreeing to some of the terms, and that wasn't good enough for the owners.
It looks like the only way they will play,is if the players agree to everything the owners want.

I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.

On the other hand I'd hate to deal with the end of Summer without that Shiny new season on the horizon.

Oops! Did I say strike? I meant lock out.
I could go with that prediction, DarthMonk.

Why is this issue the union's fault? My understanding is the Union is happy with the current deal the OWNERS ageed upon last go around. The OWNERS want 1 billion dollars more and they want to get it by the players giving them back 1 billion dollars. Giving back? Why are the players a nuisance because they don't want to give back what is rightfully theirs? The OWNERS refuse to open their books to show that they are losing money. A former Eagles owner claimed that he was losing money. When he was forced to sell the team, they looked at the books and found that he was paying himself a $7 million dollar salary. SO much for losing money. Why don't the OWNERS open their books to prove that they are in dire straits? My understanding is the the Jerry Jones' no longer want to share with the small market teams. I suppose that is the union's fault too. It is the OWNERS who are locking them out - not the players striking. Perhaps, I am reading your post wrong, but do explain why the Unions are a nuisance in this situation. I am all eyes.

I'm generally not a fan of unions, especially the AFL-CIO and similar unions, but I don't see how you can lay the labor issue in the NFL at the feet of the NFLPA.
Suck and Luck
They decided today (3/4/11) to keep the CBA for another 7 days
HOPEFULLY these guys can figure something out SOON

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

My prediction is a settlement just before the final pre-season game. I base this on neither side wanting to lose money, on the players not liking camp, and on the players becoming desparate. I have very little legal expertise.
I also pulled all my money out of the stock market when the DOW hit 14,000 and put it all back into an index fund when it hit 7,000.
I also bought 2 houses in 2000, rented one, and sold it when I got out of the stock market.
Finally, I refinanced the one I kept when rates bottomed out this past October.
I based all these decisions on a desire not to lose money and on a sense of desparation in others.
I don't bat 1.000 but I have a pretty good feel sometimes.
If things aren't fixed by September I'll be awfully disappointed. I guess I'd have to watch the World Series and coach my son.

However with 9 billion at stake, I think something will get done soon enough and we will have a full season.

My concern is are they actually working to resolve this issue NOW, which is when they should be resolving it, or are they purposely dragging their feet because the closer it gets the the start of the season, the more leverage they'll have? Also, I have to side with the players here because of the owner's refusal to show their books. Doing so just makes them look like they have something to hide...
