Redskins’ Brandon Banks injured in stabbing
Posted by Michael David Smith on February 12, 2011, 12:49 PM EST
Brandon Banks
Redskins receiver and return man Brandon Banks is in stable condition with superficial knife wounds after he was stabbed early this morning, NBC Washington is reporting.
The stabbing took place around 3 a.m. at a D.C. club called The Park.
According to police, an argument broke out and a man attacked both Banks and a friend he was with. That friend is in critical condition.
The 23-year-old Banks made the Redskins as an undrafted rookie out of Kansas State last year and was the team’s top punt and kickoff returner.

Brandon Banks Injured in Stabbing
I just heard on the FAN 106.7 in DC that Brandon Banks is in the hospital with superficial stab wounds.
Looks like he is going to be OK.

When they first announced it on the radio, BMitch said that Brandon Banks is in the hospital, my thoughts were he had complications from his previous surgery then they said that he was stabbed. My thoughts immediately went to Sean Taylor and thinking, not again! Finally, relief when BMitch said that it looks like he is going to be OK. You are right about his buddy. The said that he was in critical condition.

When they aren't young players but veterans hopefully. Unfortunately, by then there will be more stupid young players.

Exactly. I'm glad he is OK but being in a club AT 4 AM, IN DC is not the smartest place to be if you are a young rich football player.
Why can't the Skins just stay out of the news in the offseason? Its never good news.

You all are idiots. I live right down the street from this club. This is a nice place. It's not like he was in Berry Farms at a house party at 4am. He was at a club at closing time at 3am (which is closing time). He's 24 years old. I can't tell you how many clubs I closed down when I was 24.

Exactly right. I work a few blocks away from Park and its right in downtown DC next to nice hotels, law firms, lobbying firms, etc. He wasn't in a dangerous part of town and was in one of the upscale clubs that is frequented by Caps, Redskins, and Wizards players. I've been to Park numerous times and it's not a bad place. It's absurd to expect 24 year old athletes not to act like normal people and go out.

Let's hope that a life lesson was learned for Brandon and that his buddy recovers.
Banks wasn't a target. His buddy got into an argument with another person and Banks was injured when he and the bouncer tried to break up the fight. Could have happened to anyone.

Congrats!
Were you a rich 24 year old football player by any chance? And it doesn't matter if the club is nice. There is no guarantee that the streets are nice when you walk out of there at 4 AM.
No, but I was 24, and, if you know the area, I was doing okay for myself...so two out of three ain't bad. I currently live there for God's sake. I know the area. I walked down there 2 nights a week...every week...when I was in my mid-twenties. I may be told I don't know what I'm talking about often on this message board, but this is ludicrous.
24 year olds are going to go out. There's innocent people who get caught in the crossfire...it occurs. I'm not going to criticize a guy going out to an upscale club in the business section of DC, regardless of what time it is...it's absurd.

If "anyone" is not there, at the club. "Anyone" can't have it happen to them, target or not. Let's see people filing out in the street, after filling their bodies with, intoxicating fluid and an argument breaks out? A fight? A deadly weapon is produced? WHAT are the odds of that happening? This "anyone" is not there.
If, after this Brandon, still wants to be at a night club at closing time, that is his choice and I will like him all the same, but I bet that he has a life lesson learned that he will use in the event of something like this happening around him again.
Get weill Brandon and your buddy too.

First things first - I'm glad Brandon seems to be ok, and hope that his friend recovers.
Second, it may be that on this occasion, it wasn't the local football star who was a target, but that he just got caught in the crossfire.
Third, whatever "normal" kids do, it still isn't a wise choice for a football player to be out there at that time of the night.
And yes, I'm over 40, and I never liked clubs even when I was 20, so I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Some people need to get real on here. By saying that he was not being wise or smart by going to the club, GIVE ME A BREAK. The kid is 24 years old. Thats what 24 year olds do, they go out and party. If it was a nice club (I have never been there so I got no idea) as others are saying, he did nothing wrong and I am fine with him going out at night. You can say he should not have been there, but thats stupid, he's a kid. Thats what they do. To expect him to go to clubs and leave at the stroke of midnight to make the fans happy is dumb and even my boys and I stay later then that and have been known to close places down. Some ppl on here need to realize that he is not a prisoner who cant go live his life, all he wants to do is be a 24 year old.
All thyat being said ppl also dont know the circumstances. Maybe his buddy was driving and did not want to leave yet and BB was stranded there (has happened to me plenty of times) or maybe his buddy was blasted and BB was trying to get him out (happened plenty of times again) or MAYBE HE WAS JUST BEING A NORMAL 24 YEAR OLD AND OUT AT A CLUB LOOKING FOR GIRLS WITH A FRIEND. Just my 2 cents

Mike/Bruce - If your going to spring big this year in Free Agency, please spring big on offensive lineman! I cant watch Rabach anymore!
This being the original thread - count me in the "he couldn't have been hurt IF he'd not been there at that hour" camp
just my opinion - I do not agree that NFL athletes are "just normal kids" - they have a lot more responsibilities than "normal" kids - I think it was a mistake (NOT wrong) for Banks to be out that late
If you want to be a part of the NFL, you should accept the reponsibilities to act and behave in a certain way
I think that being a part of the NFL comes with certain 'requirements' for setting an example - that's just me
just like everyone, I hope he's going to be OK

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
