http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redski ... g-for.htmlJustin Tryon says playing for Colts is 'night and day' difference from Redskins
By Rick Maese
The Redskins aren't in the playoffs, but several former Washington players and coaches still have football games to worry about. Jim Zorn in Baltimore, Sherman Smith and Jerry Gray in Seattle, Shaun Suisham in Pittsburgh. And perhaps one of the most surprising: the Indianapolis Colts starting cornerback Justin Tryon.
Speaking Wednesday from the Colts locker room in Indianapolis, Tryon said getting traded from the Redskins was a big opportunity, and he's taken full advantage of his time with a new team.
"The crossover was wonderful," Tryon said. "It's a huge blessing."
Tryon was a fourth-round draft pick in 2008 for the Redskins and came to Washington with big expectations. Mike Shanahan and his staff apparently decided that he didn't fit into their plans, though. He was traded following training camp to Indianapolis, where he's become a key contributer down the stretch. The Colts' Jerraud Powers was placed on injured reserve last month and Kelvin Hayden suffered a neck injury. So Tryon started the Colts' final four games of the regular season and if Hayden can't go this weekend against the New York Jets -- Hayden hasn't practiced this week -- Tryon will get the call.
The playing time apparently isn't the only difference, Tryon said.
"This is night and day from D.C. It's night and day," he said. "The guys here are more, I'm not going to say -- the guys here are, it's work. It's work and less play. It's less play, it's less moseying around. It's standard here to go to the playoffs, it's standard here to be your own team. There, it was more of a fashion show. Here... it's hey, let's go to work today."

Tryon's comments about Skins
#21 = Forever in our hearts
Re: Tryon's comments about Skins
I posted the thread below to explain why the Redskins played lackluster first halves and then came out in the second half and played good football only to come up short. Even though some of this complacency continued under Shanahan, I stated then, as I still believe now, that Shanahan will rid this franchise of this complacent attitude. Tryon is not the first to point out the complacent attitude that has existed for years in Redskin Park.spudstr04 wrote:http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redski ... g-for.htmlJustin Tryon says playing for Colts is 'night and day' difference from Redskins

Redskins fans often ask why do some former Redskins play better when they move on to other teams. I believe that if a low performing player is surrounded by players with strong work ethics, they will play better. Complacent atmospheres breed complacent play. Bringing players with the Shanahan work ethic will change the atmosphere around here and elevate play. No more of this pathetic tackling that we have seen for years here.

It's most often not the player per se - it's the team - the combination of player, coach and scheme can make the world of difference when they fit
we have not had proper NFL management before - we now have guys that know how to get it done
well some of us here think that will happen, while many are not that sure about it at all

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Uh, Tryon had an interception for us last year. Getting an interception doesn't mean we should have kept him. He is only starting because of injuries. He didn't win a starting job. Did the Colts make a mistake in not starting him? Don't forget he was a back up for us. Also, don't forget, he wasn't released (thrown to the wind), we will get a draft choice in return. Also, don't forget, he is playing Cover 2 almost every play. We rarely play Cover 2. He might be better suited to Cover 2. Don't get me wrong. Tryon is not just a run of the mill DB. He has played on two teams and has not been cut. One team say fit to draft him another team saw fit to trade for him. Some guys are not traded because they aren't a good enough player. They are traded because they don't fit the system they are in, but are a better fit for the team's system that is gaining him.ATX_Skins wrote:What were we thinking getting rid of him... From now on if ANY team who is playoff bound asks for one of our guys maybe e should reconsider a bit before just throwing out players to the wind.
If we had released him and got nothing in return then I would say, Right On!"
