At $10 Million I don't see McNabb in D.C. next year. My guess is a year of rebuilding with Grossman or some journeyman pulled from the scrap heap of free agency.

OK, so you've said that in several threads. It sounds like you think he will be released soon after the season is over and that has about a 1% chance of happening.

McRib will be here very close to draft day and will still be on the team deep, deep , deep into the off season, unless the Skins trade him.

Actually, I think there is a much better chance of him being on the 2011 roster than being released prior to March!

Any thought of this team dumping him w/o trying everything they can to recover at least a 3rd for him is just crazy.

I don't disagree with any of those assumptions, I but he just won't do it until he is sure he can't get anything in return for him or he has a better QB for next year.

This will go way into the spring or summer; that is my gut feeling.

Whats sort of hilarious is this is exactly what irked fans in Philadelphia about McNabb. That and the poor accuracy on short routes. It's not as if these should have been shocking surprises about McNabb...

Yep...I wasn't shocked. I figure McNabb to be a good QB. Not great like some think. He can get it done but looks ugly half the time and good the other. (hot and cold) What did surprise me is McNabb used to look pretty good on national TV and I just didn't see it this year. I figured he would shine there but oh well...The pain I feel is giving up draft picks for him like a lot of us do. If that didn't happen and we picked him up for free then I would have been ok with this considering. Live and learn. They wont do that again without giving it more thought.

The only reason McNabb won't get moved at the end of the season is that nobody's going to take that risk in January. Or February. Or before there's a new CBA.

But from the moment the new CBA takes effect, there's going to be an immediate push to move McNabb and I'd be shocked if he's still around by the end of the draft.

Why? Steve McNair (talk about classy, right?)

The Skins cannot bar McNabb (or any employee or player under contract) from team facilities without a disciplinary cause. Meaning: McNabb's strongest play is to toe the company line, and show up for every single day of the offseason conditioning program. Not just because it puts him the best physical shape for another team's camp, but because the Redskins assume all injury risk if McNabb should get hurt at their facilities. Sore elbow, pulled hamstring, torn pec--any of these or a thousand other injuries not only would torpedo McNabb's already non-existent trade market (he's worth far less than Haynesworth at this point) put would put the Skins on the hook for a huge chunk of money against the 2011 cap--if not the reported $25M guarantee against career-ending injury, then certainly the $10M he's scheduled to make next year.

Add to that the constant distraction of having McNabb around the team and working the local radio, and it'd be insane to keep him around any longer than absolutely necessary. The difference in picks just isn't worth the risk.

I didn't hear that ... personally, I'm thoroughly disappointed in Shanahan, and would love to see him and his son leaving and have McNabb stay ...

Do you all realize that over the course of this season, there has been almost no running game or pass protection? There have been a handful of games where you could say that there was decent, workable pass pro, and even fewer games that running was anything more than an after thought?

It might surprise many to consider that the Redskins are 31st in rushing attempts per game ... but 11th in yards per attempt at 4.3 ? Does anyone realize that there have been something like 5 games where the Redskins rush attempts hit the 20 carry mark and 2 or 3 games where there were 10 or less attempts ?

As an example, against Detroit ... 6 carries by a RB ... 4 carries by the QB. Any wonder why the Lions had their ears pinned back and annihilating McNabb?

Kyle Shanahan HATES running the football ..... Tampa Bay ... Torrain was literally running over the Bucs in the first half ... second half? 5 rushing attempts? Obviously, with the success in the 1st half, there was no excuse for abandoning the run game in the second half.

Even against the Cowboys ... 11 rushing attempts, even though Torrain was gaining yards ... 4.8 per carry?

Unless you are the Colts ... you cannot have a 80/20 Pass/Run offense and expect to be successful .... especially with shaky pass pro ... and especially in the NFC East. And pass happy offenses also put TREMENDOUS pressure on your defense, by not eating clock and giving opponents more time and plays for their offense.

Seems to me that EVERYONE in the NFL that doesn't have Peyton Manning as their QB understands that you need better balance between the run and pass .... except Mike and Kyle Shanahan.

And given that we really don't have that big play back breaking long gainers and padding the yards per carry ... it's not that the Redskins couldn't run the ball (being 11th in yards per attempt), it is that the Redskins WOULDN'T run the ball. Also consider that ANY back will tell you that they need carries to establish a rhythm ... and that pounding the ball on the ground tires defenses while also helping set up play action, and keeps your defense off the field ... this is a huge red flag for the Kyle Shanahan philosophy of offense.

I'm not the LEAST bit impressed with the Boy Wonder .... or his Dad.

BTW ... here's an interesting stat ...

when the redskins rush the ball 19 times or more .... they were 5-1, the rest of the games rushing under that they were 1-7.

Here's an even CRAZIER stat ..... when the Redskins rushed 19 times or more, the defense gave up an average of 15 points per game ... under 19 carries the defense gave up 33 POINTS per game !!!!

So there you have it .... now you know why coaches (most of them) stress the importance of running the football and having a balanced attack. Say what you want about how McNabb played this year ... but the bottom line (and these stats don't lie) Kyle Shanahan has been a DISASTER for this team ... and it is his play calling that CLEARLY shows where the real issues are .... and it isn't Donovan McNabb

He said "the Danny" was upset about the benching but if he's not even in the country how does Glazer know how he felt. He didn't really say he was upset he said that one source jokingly told him that, if the switch to Grossman doesn’t go well, Snyder may change the locks on the coaches.

I still think that Snyder gives these guys a little more rope - he will support them through the upcoming months (AND the CBA stuff) and then if there is not a marked improvement next season he might pull the rug out - but not at this stage - these guys have not been great but they haven't really been bad either

we are in a better place than we were at this time last year and there has not been much separation from top to bottom in the NFL - talk about parity

Two things: I haven't seen a quote from Daniel M. Snyder saying he is behind the decision to bench McNabb, and it isn't much of a stretch to think he might be a little perturbed about benching a player they gave up two draft picks to obtain. Major sports outlet media may enjoy their sensationalistic tabloid reporting as much as The American Press does but it doesn't seem as though sensationalism is necessary here.
