Personel Holdovers
With our sights zeroing in on the draft and the roster preparing for turnover, decisions will need to be made determining backups, injured, and special teams players. This begs the question, who stays?
Perry Riley - writers from the Post questioned why they would cut Hunter Smith for losing a game but not Riley for his block in the back. Riley seems aggressive for a LB and has had an up and down year. He looked very fast against Dallas
Terrence Austin - A strong preseason in which he led the team in receiving yards has progressed into a spot on the roster. Seemingly a project and with Moss and Banks locks for the roster, is there room for another fast undersized receiver?
Jeremy Jarmon - Technically our 3rd round pick, Jarmon has only played sparingly. Representing the small bit of youth on the D-line, is he here next year?
Keiland Williams/James Davis - Seems unlikely the order remains Torain, Williams, Davis for next year. Then again, how long was it Portis, Betts, Cartwright?
Komeatu/Bryant - Nose Tackle is a premium position in the NFL. Can't count Maake out for next year as that would be the second year from the achillies tear. He clearly isn't the same player but who knows if he'll get another year. Bryant has the size and attitude but will he ever be good enough to demand a double-team?
Kareem Moore - It's hard not to imagine some type of upgrade here in the offseason. Landry has a spot and Doughty is quietly putting together a stellar season, Moore is downright embarrassing. I'm not sure I've seen a highlight from him yet and both his position and NT are the softest spots on the D
Chris Wilson/Andre Carter - While both great professionals, another stellar OLB for the transition is likely a priority as well as the roster spot it takes
Turnover is coming. The only uncertainty is where

Ahhhh... the old "It was an incomplete pass" argument. Hey, the roughing the passer against Carter was a bad call, too... but it's still on the books...

I thought it was down by contact, but I don't want to derail the thread. I'll concede it's in the books.

Perry Riley - Yes he will be here, I think he may even get a chance to start next year at MLB when Rocky walks in the offseason. If we are infact rebuilding, we cant pay Rocky the money he is going want to be an average 3-4 MLB.
Terrence Austin - 50-50 if he is here. If we bring in some other WRs this offseason, with Moss (if resigned) Banks and AA already on the roster, there is no spot for another sub 6 footer who flies. I think we make a push to bring in some size to the WR position (Jones, Walter, VJax)
Keiland Williams - I think he will be back. I think he has been pretty good behind Torain this year and as a spot starter. I still think they bring in a "speed" back, but Torain/speedy back/Williams is fine with me.
Torain - Will be here and if healthy, I think will be the starter. But they could bring in a speed back type as a BU/3rd down back (D Williams, R Brown)
Jarmon - I dont think he will be here. Our D Line is pretty bad, and he cant even beat them out to get out there. I think we are going to use the draft to try to get some D Lineman that fit the scheme. Unfortunately, JJ does not.
Barnes - This is another guy who may be getting a chance to start next year. I cant imagine us paying Carlos what he's going to want this offseason, so I am assuming Buchanon starts at CB with Barnes at nickle next year.
These are just my opinions..

Mike/Bruce - If your going to spring big this year in Free Agency, please spring big on offensive lineman! I cant watch Rabach anymore!

It was one of the two, but certainly not a INT/fumble/TD!

Shanny's last 4 drafts were strong in Denver!

Not only were Shanahan's last four drafts pretty strong, but he built those Super Bowl teams in Denver. People will say he inherited Elway, and I will even grant you that he inherited Zimmerman and Sharpe... but he got Terrell Davis, the franchise rushing leader in the 6th round! He traded for Eddie McCaffrey who was a journeyman wideout and turned him into a 1,000 yard receiver who scored touchdowns in bunches. Best of all he signed star WR Rod Smith as an undrafted free agent.
You could also look at how he took a pretty mediocre QB like Jake Plummer and made him into a star, he found Brandon Marshall in the 4th round, Peyton Hillis in the 7th round, he hosed the Redskins on multiple trades (Portis, Duckett) and he turned Ashley Lelie into a 1,000 yard deep threat.
It's true that Allen's skills are more geared towards contract negotiation and cap space but look at some of his personnel moves. Aqib Talib, Jeff Garcia, Geno Hayes, the list of guys Allen brought in goes on and on... he built the foundation for this up and coming Bucs team while pulling them out of cap hell.

Did he not in his last draft get-
QB Cutler
WR Brandon Marshall
DE Elvis Dumerville
RB Peyton Hillis
as well as two Guards that have started 50+ games all in one regular draft?
Even the mindless fans that don't do research have to recognize these names. How many Redskins drafts in ten years have gotten at least one player as good as any of those top 4? less than half
Shanahan IS a personnel guy. Who would you rather have?

Good pull my friend. I too like Shanny come draft time.
To answer your question I believe only Sean Taylor would be better than all of these players in the last ten years.

I concur. I also noticed we picked up Macho Harris, 2nd yr player drafted by Philly. I thought he played decently at least with them last year. Any opinion on this guy? So far he's been majority special teams. And as a side note, I saw Barnes @ safety last week. Thoughts on Barnes @ safety? or even Barnes in general? He plays big and he hasn't really been making huge mistakes.

Other than Landry, who isn't a weak link in our secondary? Our other safeties are mediocre and our corners are a joke.

Barnes is hungry, willing, able.....to play wherever coaches ask of him. He does play big, going heads up vs. bigger guys. He's not intimidated but must be smart so he doesn't get injured.

We have a lot of needs - I hope we keep players that might be able to help at least until we find a player to replace them - while I understand that some guys are not going to be here, there is little to be gained IMO by just letting a player go when we have so many needs on offense and defense
CB - we might not want to keep Rogers and Hall but before we let Rogers go we need to have a player of equal or better ability to replace him
WR - I hope we keep Moss AND find a #1 WR - btw, I love how Armstrong has made the most of his playing time
QB - I understand the ramifications surrounding keeping McNabb but until we get a starting QB he's our starting QB, no question
the same thought process should be applied during the free agency period - we should let guys go that we have determined cannot "fit in" here but we also should try and keep the players we already have, at least until we find an equal or better player to replace him with

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
