Cam Newton

Ok, please dont flame me. I'm at work, I'm bored, and I am miserable right now that the Redskins stink. :)

So I was thinking that I would be willing to be miserable for a few more years if we were able to draft this kid and let him sit a couple years while learning under McNugget.

The kid has a rocket arm and has legs to boot! Looks like the Redskins will end up drafting out of the top 10 this coming year so how many draft picks am I willing to give up for a potential YOUNG franchise QB? I say we give up 3 first rounders. This years, next years and 2014. Keep 2013's cause hopefully by 2014 they will be a perennial playoff team.

I know we need O-line help but we can find that later in the draft and Danny Boy is never shy about opening his checkbook for FA's. Franchise QB's never become FA's.

Again, just sitting around bored at work and decided to throw up a light-hearted post to maybe get some conversation going.

Take it easy on me!! :P

He has a lot of baggage so he wouldn't cost us 3 picks, he might even fall that far down the draft. But why not the Skins have a great track record when it comes to trading picks to move up and pick QBs from that school.

3 First round picks, you nuts??

That could be:

1) a very very good OLineman;
2) a quality WR; and
3) a very good Lb for our 3-4.

What would you rather have?

While I like Newton a lot, I'm not sure how different he is than Vince Young. I'm not enamored with NFL qbs that have this run when the pressure is turned up mentality. I know, I know, Vick is great but did anyone see what happened to Vick when he ran a little too much when he played us the first game? We knocked him out for 3-4 weeks.

Don't make dumb trades Allen -- take a quality guy with our 1st round pick and live our lives!

Great points Fred. I really like Cam too, I think he could be the next "Josh Freeman" or the next "Vince Young".. its so tough to say with these college kids and their maturity levels. I'm with you though Fred but I don't think there will be guys coming out really good (OL wise) and since we do need a WR I think that should be our main focus this offseason.

1. AJ Green (Georgia)
2. Julio Jones (Alabama)
3. Mark Dell, Michigan State
4. Chris Owusu, Standford
5. Terrance Toliver, LSU
6. Jonathan Baldwin, Pittsburgh
7. Austin Pettis, Boise State
8. Michael Floyd, Notre Dame
9. DeVier Posey, Ohio State
10. James Rodgers, Oregon State

The only ones I'm really familiar with are AJ Green and Julio Jones though.

Anyways, I say NO to picking a QB in the draft and we just ride McNugget for a while. At least lets try to protect him and give him some talent to throw the ball to.

Cam is a freakish athlete, I'm just not sure how good of a pro QB he will be.

Now Julio Jones, that is just the type of WR we need. And hopefully in 2 or 3 years when Lattimore from SC comes out we are in position to get him. He is a freshman and I think he could play in the NFL right now. The guy is a workhorse back. Spurrier got a beast with that guy.

I think Cam might be pretty good if he could sit for a couple years and learn the pro game. And we do have the ability to let that happen, since we have DMAC, BUT we have way too many holes to pick a QB with our 1st rounder.

We need to either draft O Line, D Line or a LB in my opinion. I figure we will have a top 10 pick, if we can trade back to a lower 1st rounder we could pick up a guy like Wisnewski or Hudson. If we cant trade back then we should use that top 10 pick on a D Lineman or a LB.

I really do understand that we have MANY holes. But guys such as Newton and Luck don't roll around often. They could sit for 2 years and then hopefully the transition to starter will be smooth like it was for Steve McNair.
I think with a new CBA next year, you may see a bit more guys enter into the FA market. I think this because the players are going to want quicker access to being FA if the owners want to put a ceiling (somewhat) on salaries. So hopefully for a team like ours who, love it or hate, aren't scared to spend, there will be a bunch more YOUNG quality FA's that hit the market next year. With big Mike Williams coming back next year, they will need to make a run at a solid Center and a G.
Am I going to be wrong about Newtown? Probably... "Can't miss" QB's usually do miss and he's a Heisman winner to boot! So he really has a lot working against him. haha

Oh well... isn't this what being a Skins' fan is all about??? Crappy regular season and eternal hope and optimism during the offseason???

It's going to be CAMtastic!!!!

Cam Newton looks like a pro QB physically, but I'm nervous of drafting any QB from a spread offense.

Watching Alex Smith can do that to you.
