I don't like Mallet. Apparently he's got an INJURY issue from college and I ABSOLUTELY HATE drafting guys who already have injury issues. That's a big thing in my mind.

So far as I can see in my research there aren't really any prototypical 3-4 DL's available who are first round prospects. Anything there would be even more or a project than Newton.

I think we've got enough other issues that are far more pressing than CB. Especially since I'm fairly gunshy about drafting corners after Smoot and Rogers.

Those two don't work on my anymore. I've heard them for almost twenty years without them ever coming true. They ring as hollow as the promises of a Washington Politician. Especially with this GM and Coaching Staff in place.

Depending on what happens with the CBA you might still get your wish. If the owner is stupid enough to actually vote for a CBA with a salary cap, revenue sharing, etc... that might actually be enough to allow me to finally give up on this team once and for all.

That weird, I have seen him listed as a 3-4 DE. Im not saying your wrong, but he does have experience in a 3-4 at end, we need help there before drafting a QB to groom. Jst my opinion

Newton is intriguing, but Luck and Mallett are better NFL prospects. Qb's that play in spread option in college historically struggle in the NFL. Luck and Mallett are much better prepared for the pro game.

I'm not saying we take a receiver, but you guys talk like Newton is going to come in here and run all over NFL defenses... He won't.

Of all the QB's Andrew Luck will pan out to be the best.

I truly hope that we aren't looking WR or RB in the Top 10. I don't see one there that I like. Until the idea of Newton coming out came to me I didn't see a QB there who I liked either.

With Shanhan, you are guaranteed to not have a RB picked with a Top 10 pick. Don't know his history on WR's in the first round. He definitely likes QB's in the first round.

Luck won't be there unless we trade up to the #1 slot. Mallett has injury issues and that's something which totally turns me off to a player in the draft. We won't get Luck and I'm not sure I could really find much positive in the selection of Mallett.

For the first two years he shouldn't be throwing to anyone who isn't on the Practice Squad. He should be brought in here to learn from the coaching staff and McEagle while McEagle goes out there every week and takes the pounding until our Offensive Line gets upgraded and we bring some more weapons in.

I wouldn't want Brady in a Redskins uniform under any circumstances and I think Manning would probably do better than you think. He'd definitely do better than McEagle has or ever will in this offense.

Luck is not going to be available to us, so he's not even worth discussing.

Ok, then I'll ask you... What do YOU do with the #8 pick in the first round? Do you spend it on an OT? Do you reach for a Guard or Center at that point? Do you try ro trade down and hope somebody doesn't take the player you covet before you get in the clock again?

Mire than likely we will gave a Top 10 pick this year. Do you really want to spend two in a row on OL's? If so, fine, but I'm not going to be happy if we do.

So I've been thinkin (yes I do that sometimes).. because RedskinsFanatic (RF) has been pounding this so hard I figured I'd take a look at a mock draft that's been set up already (first 16 picks) and RF may be onto something. I'm not a college offensive line expert at all so let's see what's listed on this site...

ANTHONY CASTONZO, OT, BOSTON COLLEGE: He plays in Trent's spot so I don't know what he'd do for us but the guy is pretty athletic and strong. Plus BC does seem to raise good OL'men all the time.

NATE SOLDER, OT, COLORADO: Former tight end turned offensive lineman who is very athletic but has plenty to learn.

GABE CARIMI, OT, WISCONSIN: Apparently the guy doesn't do well against speedsters.. (think NY Giants DLine here folks)

DEREK SHERROD, OT, MISSISSIPPI ST: Now I do actually know about this guy and he's a total stud IMO. If we were able to get him I'd be pretty excited.

I'm not really in favor of taking another tackle that high again this quickly. I would rather trade down into the bottom (24-32) of round one if we are looking at interior linemen.

BPA is a concept I abhors slightly more than I hate counting on kickers to win games. There are no top flight 3-4 DL's in this draft. I don't see S or LB as a sufficient need to waste a Top 10 pick on. In that case I'd rather trade down.

If we can, I'm all for it. It has been years and years since that was true, however. I know that this year's talent pool in the FA market is much better, so that's something to consider, but traditionally the only way to build a dominating line is (primarily) through the draft.

Yes. Good WRs and RBs have a smaller impact on the game than good OLs. Often times the star RB or WR looks so good because of the hard work being done in the trenches. Since we are so far from having a dominating OL, it doesn't matter as much who we have playing at QB, RB, etc. FA is a good way to fill the gaps while we try to build a solid team from the ground up.

Safety is our biggest hole on defense. We are lacking a starting-quality FS and we need depth in both positions. The last two safeties we selected in the top 10 have done great, so I don't see why picking up another would be abhorrent.

In terms of Safeties. Yes, Lamdry and Taylor were good choices. I just think ee have much larger holes on this roster that need to be dealt with first.

Well that pretty much describes the Redskins over the last decade. Build through free agency, especially by trading away picks, and then go with the draft if you have a high pick.

Fortunately, we usually had a high pick, because that strategy absolutely fails. You can keep your free agent acquisitions and high draft picks. I prefer the method used by the most successful teams of the last decade (Pats, Indy, Philly), which is to build through the draft — especially for quality depth at cheap prices.
