Remembering ST #21...this time of the year

It's Thanksgiving and we all have MUCH to be thankful for. Everyday should be in the spirit of Thanksgiving.

But....it's also a bittersweet time of the year. Mr. Sean Taylor was tragically taken away from us on Nov. 27, 2007. We miss you brother.

I do wonder if the Redskins will assign #21 to future player.
I wonder if #21 will be "retired" in Honor of ST #21..... that would be great.

Amen. May his family be blessed as you said even this happy day is a painful reminder of the family member not at the table likewise on the field..
Do the skins come out a player short first play on D this weekend? I wonder

You just hold your breath. The Redskins are not out of it yet... and, please recall that the first play 2 weeks ago began a cascade that will live in Redskins infamy.

I want to honor Taylor, but... that would NOT be a smart way to do it..

The process of life & death requires us to be able to move on from these tragedies. No, 1 man short on D would not be a very practical way to commemorate ST. Annoucing him as part of the starting defense would be acceptable to me & I'm sure it would be ok with current & future players on the Skins team.

May the Lord bless my extended Redskins family where ever & when ever you may be!

Let the family move on, and let the fans and players who wish to do so remember ST, say a prayer for him and his family, or whatever.
I don't think anyhting official from the team would be appropriate.

Even if it isn't officially retired, no one will wear it for a very, very long time. I think it should be retired officially though, along with the other jerseys that are "unofficially" retired.

ST21 will always be remembered here. If not for him at least for his daughter, whom he gave all to protect. We honor your Memory Sean. We will remind everyone at this time of year how fierce a defender you are both on and off the field. God bless your fam, bro.

I disagree. I think numbers should only be officially retired in certain very rare occasions. No one is going to think less of John Riggins if another player comes along and wears #44. And at a certain point, you have to have numbers for current players to wear, so retiring too many makes a real problem for conforming to the NFL's position/jersey # policy.

I agree. They did a few official things at the time of the tragedy. If the organization does something this year, then why not next year? And the year after? Etc. It's entirely in good taste to leave the grieving and memories to his family, friends, and fans. That is definitely good enough and respectful of the man and his legacy.

Absolutely! The only number officially retired by the Redskins is of a player whom, I believe, was the best in all 3 phases in the history of the game, and, arguably, the best PLAYER ever. Retirement of a player's number on THIS team is, and should be, reserved for players of that magnitude... Sammy Baugh, Jim Brown, Jerry Rice... the once every 20 year type of player.

No one has been issued several numbers for years... 7... 9... 21... 28... 42... 43... 44... 49... 65... 70... 81... They are not retired... just not yet earned. (Note that Leonard Marshall... whom, certainly, had earned the right... wore #70 when he was here in '94).

Using the same standard used by many teams to "retire" jersey numbers, it's likely that the Redskins would have between 20 and 29 numbers that would be retired.

Three years ago I was in bed when the text came in about his passing. Two years ago I was on the football field playing the position he played. One year ago I was wearing his jersey in bed sick with the swine flu. Today I am an Athletic Trainer who will be roaming the sidelines of a football field taking care of players that look up to him. Players that get are coached and told to play like him.
Sean's legacy will never leave me. Live every day, play, and moment to the fullest. Live it in happiness. Overcome the troubles, ignore the haters, and protect your family all the time. As he did when the bullet severed his artery.

Today, tell your parents you love them. Your brother, sister. Your friends. Smile today. Laugh today. Live his legacy through today, especially today.

Rest in peace Sean Taylor. You are forever missed. Never forgotten.

OMG That video got me so upset. He was a father doing all the right things for a long while and some cowardly act takes him away.

He would have been a Hall of Famer and probably the most beloved Redskin of all time.

May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

I haven't viewed this team with the same level of passion since his death, I don't know why, can't explain it but... You can look at my post count and see that I used to take this way too seriously. A loss would ruin my week, and U know i had a lot of bad weeks. I'd turn down anything to watch a Skins game but after his death, I lost that passion. It was a good thing tho, cus Skins games, although I love them dont have priority in my life anymore.

My authentic #21 Jersey is cherished treasure to me. He's my favorite Redskin of all time. It saddens me to think of what happened to him.

I was choked up watching his funeral...

It was nice seeing OchoCinco and others respect his memory on twitter today.
