You know whose opinion on the McNabb benching we still hadn't heard? Vinny Cerrato. "I can't figure that one out," he told Baltimore's 105.7 The Fan. "I mean, Rex Grossman's never won anything, and Donovan's been to championship games. Many a time I've been on opposite sidelines and he's come back and beat us. And the thing about it is, I think Mike's a great coach, he's a good friend of mine, but I just don't agree with that decision. Because basically, the two-minute drill, you're going out there, you're playing like you're playing in the street.
"The quarterback's making calls, he's calling his own plays. The two-minute drill, usually the quarterback handles it, plus Donovan can run, and he's used to the rush that was coming and the pressure. That one dumbfounded me when I was watching the game. I thought Donovan was hurt, and then when they said he wasn't hurt and they brought in Rex Grossman, I thought c'mon. They had a chance to win the game with 1:40 to go. If they get a touchdown, it's right there."
If Vinny thought benching McNabb was wrong, it must have been right !

That's actually a pretty compelling argument.
Actually, the argument has been made over and over in various segments and with different sport crowds of the TV NFL Network and other TV networks since SUNDAY EVENING.
Vinny is not going to receive any Nobel Price from us for rehashing a well tested and safe argument. He is just using the opportunity to kick Shanahan and Allen in front of everybody. Not good when a member of the team (yes, he is still in the payroll) uses an opportunity for a personal agenda.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

This is what I think MS is dealing with and make no mistake...MS is to blame also. I have to go on this show just for friends that think I can but I say I will probably end up in jail for...never mind I will try to behave if they let me on at all.
We have no idea, except for what we are told.
I have no idea what you're talking about but probably agree.
But Vinny is still stuck making the mistake of analyzing what a player will do for you NOW by mentioning what he did in the past.
"Donovan's been to championship games" doesn't mean a hill of beans today. The QB that was able to lead his team to 5 straight NFC title games no longer exists.

That's silly so say that nothing he's done in his career influences his current value. Where does this 'intangible leadership' quality come from then?
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.

I'm hearing that Dmac is not the "workaholic" that Shanny desires.... Is Dmac...ah...ah.....lax, lazy, a lounge lizard.....? I don't know. If you play to win the game, then you must practice with Urgency and at a fast/serious clip.
Maybe Dmac is just too easy/laid back for Shanny's taste. Dmac is too Medium, if I may say.....WHERE IS HIS FIRE that burns inside....???
That, imo......is what Leadership is about....!!!
Sure Dmac is a great teammate, good for locker room, has a chipper attitude.....but where is the burning FIRE....???
Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
I think we'll see the fat & lazy, out of shape, lounge lizard leading our team to victory on Monday night football
man oh man - there a lot of guys looking to dump on these guys whenever they can
I think Kyle and McNabb will be looking forward to squashing all the rumors & innuendo that we have heard - ALSO, I hope that Haslett and his bunch are taking full advantage of the respite from the scrutiny his defense has been having recently as well
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I just meant the "If Cerrato thinks X, then X is probably wrong" part.
Joe Theismann will make his debut as a game analyst for the NFL Network's Thursday night telecast next week. And almost certainly, he will say on the air that evening what he said out loud this week - that he would not be the least bit surprised to see Rex Grossman starting at quarterback ahead of Donovan McNabb for the Washington Redskins against the Philadelphia Eagles a week from Monday night.
"The only word to describe what's going on [with the Redskins] right now is bizarre," Theismann said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "I was listening to a clip of Mike Shanahan on the radio the other day. He was saying that any conversation he had with Donovan he won't share with anyone. Mike accommodates the media because he has to, not because he wants to. He and Bill Belichick will tell you exactly what they want to tell you and how long they want to tell it to you, and then it's over.
"But what I was curious about is what's going to happen when practice starts up again in four or five days. Who will be under center? I've been trying to read between the lines in all these explanations they've been giving and it sounds like he's saying Donovan doesn't understand the offense. If he doesn't grasp it after the minicamps, training camp, four preseason games and eight regular season games, my guess is that Rex will be the starter."
Theismann firmly believes McNabb ought to be the quarterback against his old team at FedEx Field, but admits he's not around Redskins Park all that much to witness what the coaching staff sees every day in practice. As for any notion that the team is now in emotional disarray because Shanahan pulled McNabb in the final minutes of the Lions loss, he doesn't totally buy it.
"The players know what's going on, they see it every day," he said. "Their eyes can tell them what's happening. Everyone tries to be politically correct in these kinds of things. The bottom line for the players is real simple: can the guy win for me? Can you make plays that will win the game for me? I used to have a sign in my locker that was a message just to remind me why I was there. It said 'I never have to be the reason the team wins. I just can't be the reason the team loses.'"

I would be surprised if Rex started, especially after Mike said Mcnab is his starter. "Franchise quarterback" Not that he doesn't lie mind you but I think you have to wait until half time before you pull him unless he is throwing interception after interception or really screwing up. He misses some open receivers and has some trouble with the short game. I wouldn't yank him unless he is losing games for us.
I think Mcnabb starts and unless he's injured he's playing QB
what we saw was a stupid mistake that was badly explained afterwards
there are some, both here and in the media, that are just "using" what happened on and off the field, to suit their agenda
IF Joe predicts that Rex will be Kyle and Mike's choice for QB and both McNabb and Grossman are able to start - then he willl be shown up badly
McNabb is going to be the starting QB here whenever the offense is on the field, unless there is something wrong with him
Grossman will not get the ball again under the same circumstances - that dog will not hunt

As much as I'd like to have run the clock out with a 5 point lead, I'm not in dream land. Perhaps we have not run enough in general but against the Lions, if you take away DM's long scamper we ran 18 times for 44 yards. We got the ball with 5:21 left - a virtual eterniity in today's NFL. We ran for no gain on 1st down. We snapped the ball on 2nd down with 4:40 left. If we run two more times and punt they have PLENTY of time AND their timeouts. The best way to eat clock at this point was to make first downs. Time reallly was not the primary issue ... YET. So I don't have a problem with passing there. I would have preferred something quick in the slot that is high percentage and amounts to a run if you complete it but have no problem with a pass in general. The pass called seemed unwise and, of course, the decision to throw where he did simply made things worse.
Now for the 2-minute fitness thing with calling two plays at a time, etc. We got it on our 30, down 6, with 1:45 to go. Even if we make 3 15-yard completions UP THE MIDDLE we have nearly 45 seconds left after a spike and we are at their 25. This requires neither extra fitness nor extra memory above what DM had already displayed in the game. In other words, to quote another poster, either "HE IS A LIAR," "HE IS AN IDIOT," or both.

I agree with all of that, but I would make another point as well. The decision to go for it on 4th down, from our own 20, with 2 time outs and the 2 minute warning still to come was idiotic as well. Had we punted, we get the ball back (after a Brandon Banks return) only needing to drive far enough for a game tying FG. The only thing more stupid than not punting there, was to put in a cold Rex Grossman to try and drive 80 yards for a winning TD.

The link might sway some opinions that MS is just a liar that's trying to cover up a bad choice. I think the media is making this out to be worse than it really is but, then again whats new?
I disagree. The post game presser and this one greatly contradict. And some of the 'reasons' are shady at best. Donovan can scramble for 35 yards, take a beating all day, and all of the sudden he isn't good enough? Not fit enough? Not familiar enough? I call BS STILL...
I wouldn't know what was going through M.S's head during the time he made the decision, or during either of the pressers, and I'm not saying I agree with the decision, but some of these posts are just crazy.
I'm thinking that Shanny had lots of reasons at the time to do what he did; whether he wants to cover that up to the media or not is fine by me. I don't think he is just out there telling blatant lies to make himself (or his son) look good, like some are suggesting.
It would be nice to see some fans stand behind their coach even if they thought he was making a mistake. We called for football people, we called for a new coach, and now halfway through the season (at 4-4) fans are whining because the coach made a bad choice in a game where the whole team (with the exception of a few) was absolutely miserable.
Teeter are you serious buddy??? Look @ it like this bro: Playing time vs Detroit- Mcnugget, not rex Who's played more games in THIS SYSTEM- Mcnugget, not rex
You know I back our coaches, to a dag gone fault at that but now with the whole fit thing, I really wonder what the heck Zornahan considers "FIT"??? If you look @ Mcnugget this year compared to last year, the guy lost big lbs and is moving like he's young again. How in the flippin world did he become unfit? Oh, maybe after he ran all dag gone day vs detroit? Really makes me wonder about the whole Haynesworth beef now that Shanahazorn is tripping on Mcnugget.
Sorry bro, but in this particular case, Shanazornahan FAILED!.. and I'm ticked off because of it.
@ LPJ for fitting "Zorn" into Shanahan's name three different ways.
