Lions vs Redskins Post-game Thread

Post by spudstr04 »

I realize that this is an embarrassing loss, but we are 4-4 in a muddled NFC. No one has shown that they are better, except may be the Giants. We are still in the pack for a playoff spot. I still believe in this team and this coaching staff. We don't have the personnel for the 3-4 yet and it shows when we give up these many points. If you would've told me at the beginning of the year, that the Redskins would be 4-4 at the bye week, I would be thrilled. The Lions aren't a bad team. Remember, they were favored going into the game. I don't understand, at all, why D-Nabb was pulled in the game.

Positives:

Brandon Banks
DeAngelo Hall's INT
Anthony Armstrong's good game

That's about it.

From win total alone, we are better than last year already.

Honestly, I don't know what the answer is but I just don't see us getting the players we need anytime soon to function in the 3-4 defense and have a potent offense. BY the time all that occurs (if it occurs) coaches are gone and the other players are getting olde or go to another team. To me, its a vicious cycle that the Skins have been in going on two decades. We let alot of good players go and passed on others. I really don't see Shanahan coaching beyone five years with the Skins which is what I think it would take to start really winning and not just pulling games out in the end. We are not even convincingly winning any games and then we lose games we should have won. We could be 6-2 right now be we are not, which seems to happen from year to year as well.

Could be worse I guess, Dallas is what 1-6?? lol

I wouldn't even be that surprised to see them finish 4-12 again.

This was easily one of the worst losses in a long time (probably since the last DET loss).

IMHO, this loss plays a serious role in the playoffs. We have lost two of our "easy wins" on the schedule.

I cannot even express my disappointment in this game. I can't put it into words. From the lack of offense, to the defense that shut down when we needed them most, to the horrendous coaching decisions (see the dispicable Grossman decision). It is as if we are back to square one. I don't even know what we can do. Sure we are 4-4, but then again, that isn't good enough to make the playoffs -- so who cares.

This is the first time I have been in a state of mind similar to the ones I would have last season.

This was just downright embarassing.

I truly hope that McNabb is only a one year experiment. He sux as a quarterback. Unfortunately, the Redskins do not have anyone better so we are probably stuck with him. As for our O-line, it is right up there with McNabb.

I'm an apologist almost always. I know it is the NFL and every win is hard won and though I get disappointed, I am not one to boo or something and get mad at my own team but...
I am seriously POd to have seen No. 5 on the sidelines with a chance to win the game. Ridiculous.
I guess Shanahan couldn't hear the announcers. D-McNabb is No. 1 in the league 50+ completions.
Seriously?! Rex Grossman gives you a better chance to pull it off?!
I think this is my first disgusted post game post ever.

If I was McNabb after today I may not want to sign a contract with the Skins and see what other offers are out there. Hell, at this point I will take Michael Vick, at least he will take off and make something happen considering our oline isn't doing anyone any favors. Think teams are figuring us out now, just like Zorn's first year when we went 6-2 to finish 8-8 and we dont have the talent to simply beat the other team in executing the plays.

Its all for not if you don't make the playoffs and give yourself a shot a championship. Last year and this year are two different things and I am pretty sure we will not win too many more games now...we have the Giants twice and two more divisional games so I don't see us beyond 7-9 and that is stretching it IMHO.

The only positives were the ones you listed and I would even add that another good game by Haynesworth to the list of positives. It looks like they have started to put that behind them. The call to put in Grossman at the end was just plain dumb. Shanahan is saying that he gave them the best chance to win. I can't disagree more. You put an immobile QB behind the worst O-line in football and you say that gives you a better chance to win? That makes no sense.

I think Kyle Shanahan has to adjust his playcalling. He likes to call these pass plays that involve these deep routes that take forever to develop and we simply don't have the offensive line to keep McNabb on his feet long enough or the receivers to run them. He needs to stop abandoning the run and call shorter passes and mix in the deep passes. I have been completely unimpressed by his playcalling all year. He is trying to call a same game like he did in Houston and he doesn't have the talent to do it.

I think the benching of McNabb is a strong indicator that he won't be back next year, which is fine with me because he hasn't been overly impressive and he isn't a part of our future. But I have to disagree that he sucks as a QB. Can he be erratic with accuracy and make some bad passes? Yes but he is the only reason we have an even respectable record. If it were any QB behind that line and with that playcalling today we would've only scored 1 TD and it would've been the Banks return TD.

Frankly, if we stumble through the season and make the playoffs through some odd combination of tiebreakers and underachieving NFC East teams, it would only mean embarrassment on a larger stage. My 9 year son, who has become attached to Armstrong the way I did to Monk, said something along the lines of "If you only have half a team on the field for the whole game, can you still win half a game?"
Stunning.

O-line is nothing but crap, so I'm hard pressed to put it all on McNugget. However, up by five with 5 minutes to go, we need to dink and dunk around in front of our endzone ? Pathetic !

I knew coming into this game that we were going to lose. It's like they could care less if they win these "easy" games. I had a good feeling with 5 minutes to go up by 5 and then I saw McNabb passing on 2nd and nine instead of running. STUPID!! I knew it was going to be picked before he threw it. There are times to throw and times to run and that was a time to run, kill the clock and if you don't get the first at least give the D some field to work with and kill some more clock. I just don't understand this team. 4 wins (Dallas, Philly, Green Bay, Chicago), 4 Loses(Houston, St.Louis, Indy, Detroit), the only team we should have lost to was Indy and we were still in that game till the end. Green Bay just shutout NYJ and they lost to us and yet we can't beat the Lions or Rams and get killed in both games. I love this team, but I am sick of this lousy stupid playcalling, protection, running and passing that go nowhere. I can't wait till after the by, we got Philly, Tenn, NYG games that this team actually tries to win. Im ranting, but right now I'm just too pissed at this team.

Absolute attrocious. This coaching staff needs a good, swift kick in the balls to wake them up while they clean out their offices and head for the door.

The play calling has been terrible all season on both sides of the ball. Some of the worst I've seen in the 20+ years I've followed the team.

That isn't helped by a roster full of players who largely don't seem to care whether they win or lose, so long as their paychecks don't bounce. McShame especially.

I'm telling you guys .... this is a dreadful loss, and it's totally on the Mike & Kyle show .... the elder is an ego maniac, evidenced by his stubbornness in his dealings with Haynesworth ... Haynesworth might have been able to make a difference in the Colts game ... a grave mistake in strategy. Today, the only reason to pull McNabb would have been to save his life if the Redskins were down and out of the game. Pulling McNabb, and then sticking to this NONSENSE about Rex giving them the best chance to win only adds incompetent decision making to the arrogance.

Kyle Shanahan hasn't been able to adjust the offensive strategy to the poor line play, and STILL NO RUNNING game.

Is Dockery so bad that he's innactive with this PATHETIC group of morons on the line? Or is this another Haynesworth situation where Dock has fallen out of favor?

The fact is, this line looks WORSE than last year's line ... at least that line could run block. There was no pass pro ... not just bad ... NONE .. ZERO ..

Very frustrating to see such a solid defensive effort in the first half ... and not really a bad second half .... I mean ... the offense kept them on the field and in poor field position throughout the game, and it was only a matter of time that those guys are going to get gassed ... and that showed up again in the 4th Q .... there is no mystery here ... the Redskins are averaging less than 7 points per game in the 2nd Half ... and that almost guarantees a gassed and pressured defense.

With two of the 4 losses coming against the Rams and Lions ... personally, I'll take Zorn's staff with McNabb as the QB over what we've seen so far with ME and Mini ME.

I am thinking they conceded loss. So why put #5 in to get hurt. I do not agree with it because it was unfair to Grossman. I think our line and Dnab and our penalties let us down today. I think our defense did ok today because they had the short end of the field many times.

AH did a good job once again and so did LL and Fletcher and a few others. Our defense played well considering the spot they were in.

What gets me is what appeared to be prevent defense (JH) and let them have the underneath stuff. Also, the offensive line was terrible. Dnab looked like crap again. Our receivers did not catch when he was able to get a ball off that could have been caught. Penalties... That was the worst of it. We had so many that cost us. Let us face it guys. We are a 500 team at best and by some miracle we are 9 and 7.

I think that the many here that thought #5 was the answer and he was winning games for us might just understand now that he isn't. This is the same ole same ole that JC went through but Dnab is a way better QB than him. I do not think he can take the hits that JC did all year without missing part of the season though. Not that he isn't a tough guy it is just that he has a history over the years of breaking down.

Our offensive line gets most of the blame today. No one did a great job. We have been lucky to win some games this year and we could still be lucky to win more. We aren't that good guys sorry.

We could have won today if we didn't have so many penalties.

Mostly because he was no better today than he's been any of the last 7 weeks.... TERRIBLE. No touch on his throws. Terrible decision making. No ability to evade the rush.

Shannahan claimed in the press conference that Grossman knows the 2 minute offense better than McShame.

Our O-line was absolutely owned today. This O-line has been a problem for this team for several years now. I don't care which QB you put behind this line, they aren't going to perform. No running game (because the O-line can't block), and no pass blocking = more losses than wins...and that trend will continue until we get an O-line....

Maybe, but Grossman isn't nearly as elusive as McDrabb, and considering our laughable O-line, a mobile QB is a must for us....

And how did that decision work out? 1 play, and 7 for the lions.

Dmac was sacked 5 times, knocked down 12 times and 10 hurries ... without a doubt, I cannot remember a single game that the Skins o-line played as poorly .... McNabb never had a chance, and the loss lands squarely on the line play ... they were in the backfield mauling McNabb on every passing down, often before he even completed his drop back.

McNabb ... 210 yards passing ... 45 yards rushing ... the rest of the team ... 25 yards on 6 carries for Williams, 10 yards on 9 carries for Torain.

And you say McNabb sucks? he accounted for 255 out of 280 yards.

Agree. DMc had little to do with the offenseiv issues -- in fact, he was one of the only things that kept the offense going. Our OL was horrendous today and we don't have an RB to speak of. It is just embarrassing. Benching DMc was one of the worst coaching decisions I have seen in the past 10 years....literally -- I can't think of one that was worse. I even knew from the minute it was evident that there was going to be a disaster.

DMc wasn't the issue here and it was ludicirous that anyone -- especially our HC -- would think this. Has DMc played great -- no -- BUT he has played well enough to win AND he is the #1 reason our offense isn't averaging 12 PPG like we were last year.

Why do we continue to lose games that we should win. Until that ends, who cares what this team is doing -- it won't matter. The teams that consistently win and go to the playoffs are the ones who win the games they need to. This orgnaization has consistently done the opposite.

I disagree that we don't have a running back to speak of. Torain COULD be an outstanding back if our O-line could do even a little run blocking at all. The absolutely dispicable play of our O-line refelcts poorly on the entire offense.
