My thoughts exactly, Boss. The Key, did you read someone talk smack about Roy Williams prior to posting your thread? No one here will dispute that he's a good f'baller. Check back in a year when Taylor one up's your boy Roy. They're both going to be great players. Check back in with a better thread and argument.

Thanks

kkryan... personal attacks (calling someone stupid) are tolerated no more by Redskin fans than other teams' fans.

I have edited your post. Please keep personal attacks in the appropriate Smack forum.

Thanks.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Strengths: Roy Williams may very well be the best player on Oklahoma's remarkable defense. And he's just a junior.

Big enough to possibly play LB, and certainly tough enough, Williams is a ferocious hitter who reads the run well and actively participates in stopping it. Williams is also a sure tackler, and a force even against bigger blockers.

On passing plays, Williams has excellent instincts, enough speed and the power to jam smaller, weaker receivers at the line of scrimmage. He's also a ferocious competitor who looks forward to the challenge of shutting down top wide receivers.

Areas of concern: Williams is quick, but not especially fast (4.55/40)... uhm... we're struggling here to come up with things -- Williams is a terrific prospect with room to grow. In fact, he could have the highest upside of anybody in the country.

Is he sponge-worthy?: Yes. Mel Kiper thinks Williams is one of the five best prospects in the nation, regardless of position, and he's not the only one singing Williams' praises.

Of course, there's no way the Texans will build any aspect of their game around a safety, so he's certainly not going to be the team's first pick, even if they trade down (unless the sign two stud DT's and a stud MLB in free agency, and Houston decides to finish it's strong up-the-middle defense), and there's no way he'll fall into the second round.

Which is too bad, because Williams will likely be a stud in the NFL, with the potential to possibly impact and disrupt games the same way Ronnie Lott used to in San Francisco. He's that talented.

Man this guy is a tool!! Roy is not going to look that good when his fat arse is trying to catch Clinton or Mr. Coles. Why dont you go and post how sucky Quincy is? Or why dont you look up qb rankings on Drew Henson? I bet you realize how stupid you are now!!!

I was going to stay outta this but Kryin Ryan kinda smacked me up side the head and said "respond Cowboy"

Now let me just say that both Safeties are good, one is a good FS the other is a Good SS.

Now Kryan, why do you say that Roy is FAT just because of a joke that Coach Parcells made about him being one biscuit short or a LB. Son you sound a little naive in what you actually bring to the table. With that said its time for me to shed alittle light into the GREAT ROY vs Sean Debate.

1a. The year Roy Williams was drafted(2002), NO OTHER DEFENSIVE PLAYER WAS DRAFTED FROM OKLAHOMA in the first 2 rounds.

1b. The year Sean Taylor was drafted(2004) 3 defensive players were drafted from Miami in the first 2 rounds.

2. In 2003 in the first 4 rounds , 4 Miami Defensive players went compared to 1 CB from Oklahoma.

3. In 2001 2 Miami Defensive players were taken in the first two rounds compared to none from Oklahoma.

Ladies and Germs, this goes to prove that Miami has what some considered to be one of the best talent pools around. There defense IMO could have played in the NFL AS A UNIT. Individually some of them might have problems. Sean Taylor did benifit alot from having a good D-line and LB corp.

Roy Williams on the other hand did not have the amount of talent around him that Sean Taylor had and he was still a havok wrecker. They both came out in the Junior years with similar stats. All this talk and Taylor has yet to sign an NFL contract. The bottom line is Roy has shown and prove, we have a couple of months to see if Taylor can do the same.

Gambit are you actually telling me that Sean will not be as good because he had more talent surriunding him.

Miami is a school where the best NFL players in the game come out of.

They had great talent, They have great talent, They will also have great talent.

Think about it Ray Lewis, Jeremy Shockey, Clinton Portis, Mike Barrow, Ed Reed, even your own Michael Irvin, all of those guys can (or could have) make arguments to be considered the greatest at their position of their time.

Miami does not produce Flops.

And you cant judge Williams against Taylor by their play. But you can judge them physically.

man this whole thread is pointless. there are no real means to compare the two right now. wait until they are playing in the same league against the same guys, and hell even playing in the same games together before you go getting your panties all in a bunch about "who da man" is.

SKINFNA 0-16 AND 16-0 its true Miami does have good talent, but I would not go as so far to say they have not had any flops.

Second rd 2000 Boireau, Michael DE Miami
First rd 2001 Carolina Morgan, Dan MLB Miami (good but has a great front 4)
First rd 2001 St. Louis Lewis, Damione DT Miami (St louis not really happy with his production)
First rd 2002 San Francisco Rumph, Mike CB Miami (not exactly pro-bowl material)
First rd 2002 Oakland Buchanon, Phillip CB Miami (ok but same as Rumph)

here is what you said

I was wondering did you have the stats of both of there JR years, from what i remember Taylor only had a few more INTS then Roy, but Roy had more fumbles caused and sacks then Taylor. Also I notice you did not mention Fumbles caused and recovered or QB sacks. Roy also had good interception numbers at Oklahoma. IMO Taylor will be a good safety, but not as good as Williams, and Maybe not as good as Reed. Now if you follow the NFL you will hear and notice that because of Ray Lewis (a monster in film and study) ED REED is becoming a star.

This really is a pointless thread until we take the field this season. Comparing the two at this stage makes no sense. Roy Williams proved last year he can be a great player. Sean Taylor will get his chance this year. I wanted us to draft Taylor and I'm very exited about his ability. Right now, Roy Williams has a year in the league. Give Sean Taylor a shot to prove himself and then we can argue about who's the best.

In all actuality Roy Williams should have made the Pro-Bowl as a rookie

Year Team G Tckl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def
2002 Dallas 16 99 11 2 5 90 18.0 85 2 3
2003 Dallas 16 72 17 2 2 69 34.5 39 0 6

Roy is DA MAN

All of those guys are too young to call busts.

Roy having more sacks only meant that the Oklahoma Coach likes toblitz his afteys more.

I did not know you could see the future. Did you look into your crystal ball and see that Sean would not be as good as Roy.

And as for your arguement about him going to the pro bowl his rookie year.

It only looks like his numbers are going down. Are you sure that "DA MAN" is not on the decline.

Well not the stats will tell you aything... especially when one played SS and the other played FS... but here they are as requested regardless...

Williams
Started every game at strong safety…Set a school season-record with 27 pass deflections, shattering the old mark of 17 by Mike Woods (1999)…Recorded a career-high 101 tackles (73 solos) with two sacks for minus 16 yards and 11 stops for losses of 40 yards…Only Gana Joseph (105 in both 1996 and 1998) and Rodney Rideau (111 in 1999) had more tackles in a season among defensive backs at Oklahoma…His 11 stops behind the line of scrimmage was one shy of his own school season-record for defensive backs (12 in 2000)…Intercepted five passes and recovered three fumbles.

Taylor
Started 12 games at free safety, finishing third on the team with 77 tackles (57 solos), including a 4-yard sack, seven stops for losses of 21 yards and a pair of quarterback pressures…Deflected 13 passes and led the nation with an average of 0.83 interceptions per game…Only player in the Division 1-A ranks to return three interceptions for touchdowns during the 2003 season, finishing with 184
yards on 10 interceptions…Only Ed Reed (206 in 2001) gained more yards on interception returns in a season for the Hurricanes…His 10 pass thefts tied the school season-record first set by Bennie Blades in 1986…Returned five punts for 53 yards (10.6 avg) and three kickoffs for 86 yards (28.7 avg).

I think all that the stats prove is that they were both great players in college.

... if we're still making comparisons between the two of them in 3-4 years, I'm a happy Redskin fan.

That's funny man. I grew up with my team going to 4 super bowls and winning 3. I saw your team do the same in the 90s. You went through a significant drought, as we have of late and you did again prior to last season. I've gone through good and great seasons and really, really crappy ones so if you're accusing me of being on some sort of bandwagon for the team I've routed for my entire life than you've got a problem.

I simply stated the obvious in that Roy Williams went through a great rookie season in Dallas. Sean Taylor has not played one down in the NFL so you cannot compare the two until he goes through a season in the NFL ranks. So, jump back on your fair weather fandom and try coming up with an argument that is realistic.

On the 'come back next year when we're good' note, What real fan doesn't hope for next year when their team has been excellent and in turn gone through a drought? Go ask a Cubs fan why they still route for their team, despite no world series since, what? 1918? The reason why you have no idea is b/c you obviously jumped back on the Cowboys bandwagon last season when they made it to the playoffs. I've never jumped off my teams ship and never will.

So, I'll say again. When we can compare the two, after they've BOTH been in the league, let's rehash your question.

I was watching the Cowpukes on the NFL network. Back when your team sucked which wasn't too long ago. Roy Williams was a rookie when they did the hardknocks and he messed up a lot. He was a rookie. Same thing will happen to Taylor. So next year lets compare their ROOKIE stats and we'll see who is better.

Thats fine by me, I will probally forget about this anyway. This is the most accurate way to compare the two. Notice I say "most" because the comparision will never be accurate. There are too many significant variables in this situation to compare them fairly. But this is how it has to be done as it would be unfair to compare Taylors rookie year with Roys X year.

SportsWeekly?!??!!?

I've never even heard, much less seen that periodical? Is it put out by the Jones family? I ask because they would be the only people who would rate Williams ahead of Dawkins, Reed and Malloy.

Lemme guess, their top 25 QBs had Quicy Carter just eeking it out over Peyton Manning?

OK so just because a decent corner comes in he drops. NOT BUYING IT! You can call it sophmore slump if you want, but this season if his play goes down again he is not as good as everyone says he is.

This is not because he is a cowboy either. Shockey has to prove the same thing, and Smoot did last year.

Well just to kinda show u here are Bailey Stats from last year.
BAILEY: Takles 66 Solo's 61 Sacks 1 INTs 5 with 1 touch down

NEWMANS: Takles 79 Solo's 69 Sacks 1 INTS 4 with 0 touch downs

Both very good. Here are this years for Bailey

BAILEY: Tackles 71 Solo's 68 Sacks 1 INTS 5 with 0 touchdowns

So IMO from me looking at the stats says that Willaims has a shut down corner to work with, so there was someone infront of him , someone that can make plays so he did not have to make alot himself.
