Redskins Park

Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan

On Jammal Brown and Stephon Heyer’s health:

“They both should be able to go. There were no setbacks. So, we’ll wait and see.”

On the similarities between the Redskins and the Lions in their rebuilding approach:

“I wasn’t here last year so it’s hard to make that comparison. Detroit has a fine football team. [They have] a lot of first and second picks and a lot of talent. I’ve got a lot of respect for them.”

On Chad Simpson being healthy enough to play:

“Yeah, he is, surprisingly so. He went Wednesday and went pretty close to full-speed and the last couple of days he looked 100 percent. So, there should be no setback.”

On James Davis being ready to play in the new system:

“For this weekend? No, he wouldn’t be ready to go this weekend but he looked very good on the scout team this week and you can see that he’s got a lot of talent and a lot of potential.”

On considering resting Jammal Brown for a few weeks:

“Yeah, we’ve talked about that. We’re not really sure what direction we’re going to go. We don’t talk about playing time but that’s something that we have entertained, talking about injuries. Rotating them last week is an indication that he does have a problem right now with that area. We’ve got a bye week coming up so that’s a big plus.”

On if he feels Lions running back Jahvid Best is more dangerous as a pass receiver or runner:

“He can do both. He’s got great hands and he’s got great running ability. He’s been hampered a bit with his toe injuries. But if you look at film, you can see big plays both in the running game and the passing game. He’s a threat every time he touches the ball.”
