Redskins Cut Devin Thomas

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Saw this coming.. he obviousl wasn't ready to be a NFL WR.. More of a straight line runner.

I wanted him to be cut before the final roster, but it seemed like he was becoming a decent kickoff returner. Our returners were all terrible last year. Even though he sucks as a WR and I called for it a month ago, I actually don't get it now

Wasn't he top-5 in kick return average? At least he was contributing to good field position.

Makes no sense, really. We already have an extremely old and we cut one of the young guys that has shows some potential. If nothing else, he was showing that he could do a good job returning kicks. Would it really have been that hard to mix in some bubble screens and end arounds to Thomas? Instead we're going to see more of 93-year old Joey Galloway and the rest of our pathetic wr corps. Watch Thomas go to another team, get a real chance, and blow up.

I also am having a hard time understanding this...

If this move was made in training camp I get it .. but what good does cutting Thomas before week 5 accomplish? Unless this is a move made to create room for another player such as Jackson ( which I doubt it is for..) then why do this now..

He was showing promise as a kick returner and could of been used in some capacity on offense .. your telling me he couldnt run the fly routes that we have been using Galloway for? Please at least if we used Thomas in that roll we have a young WR who could be around awhile if used properly .. not a player who is closer to becoming a member of AARP then becoming a consistent WR threat.

now I know there will be plenty of mention of that fact that he clearly wasnt cutting it in practice and behind closed doors .. but unless someone on this site has 1st hand knowledge and proof of that than you cant convince me that he just loafed it in practice and didnt try at all to get on the field..

I hope that some details of the reason for his cut come out and that there is someone significantly better being brought in.. If this cut was made to add some random kid to the practice squad than I am truly confused My 2 cents

Obviously, the Skins decided that they couldn't devote two roster spots to guys who's only contribution to the team was returning kicks. And we now know who won the battle between Thomas and Brandon Banks.

Do you really think that Devin Thomas can play WR in the NFL? Not only do the Skins have the worst WR corps in the NFL, but he couldn't break into the line-up with TWO different regimes. Even Zorn could identify that this guy couldn't do it.

But then again, nothing surprises me with this team anymore. Any team that can change out an entire RB corps within the first 4 weeks of the season obviously isn't a well-run personnel machine.

It doesn't even qualify in the Top 6. But we have a pretty illustrious list:

Heath Shuler
Jason Campbell
Patrick Ramsey
Andre Johnson
Desmond Howard
Bobby Wilson

well if that is any indication of his quality of judgement - it's no wonder he's no longer here
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Oh no, they cut Demon Thomas, how are we supposed to get to the Super Bowl now?

Another inexplicably dumb move by Shanny. Thomas will do well elsewhere, either as kick returner or WR, maybe both. This franchise seems to run by ego and attitude. We desperately need to replace Galloway and Thomas wasn't even given a shot. Not acceptable.

I was a little puzzled by the move myself, seeing as Thomas is one of the younger guys on the team, appears to have a lot of potential, and when he gets the ball in his hands, has shown he can be dangerous. Then I read this quote from him after being asked what factors may have contributed to the decision:

Maybe I just wasn't the type they're looking for. Maybe they just don't want a big-play receiver who can do everything. Maybe that wasn't appealing to them.

That, friends is exactly why he was released. He's full of crap, he's a me first player and he doesn't fit what Shannahan wants to do here. Part of building a great franchise is changing the culture surrounding the team, that's what Shanny is doing, and I don't have a problem with it.

you can't really call Thomas and Kelly busts. They were 2nd round picks. Thomas had one good year in college and Kelly was severely injury prone. Granted, DeSean was a 2nd in the same draft, but you can only hit gold so many times in the second round.

I'm just wondering what exactly DT has done in this league that has people upset about him being cut. Potential? Ok, but at some point that has to become production. Dont get me wrong I dont love the move, but we need to make room K. Williams now that CP is down for a bit.
