That play OR Reid's botch in the first half

I usually actually like Aikman as an announcer, but He was totally pulling for the Eagles today, and it was pissing me off. He blames the officials for starting the play clock after a 30 second time-out? How about blaming the Eagles for not being ready after calling a TO?

Overall this was yet another game the Skins let an unworthy opponent stick around too long and actually made it a game, when it should have been over. How about McNabb making the big 1st down and then running OOBs? Get your freaking head in the game. That let them keep their final TO, and get in a position to win on that hail Mary.

I absolutely LOVED McNabb's post-game speech to his teammates in the locker room. 99% team, and 1% personal dig at the Eagles.

Who would of thought after last week that we would be cheering today?

1st in the NFC East baby!!! 2-0 in the division.

We were 0-6 last year in the division?

Whoever says THAT'S not improvement is delusional.

Highlights:

Good start by offense (this basically won them the game)

Better defensive play

Finally, signs of a running game

Lowlights:

Defense still can't seem to get off the field without allowing 7-8 minute drives

2nd half offene was abysmal

This team needs to figure out how to keep their foot on the accelerator when they go up on teams instead of letting the opponent back in the game and having these games go down to the wire. The Skins should be 3-1 right now and all 3 of those games shouldn't have even been close.

Summary for those of us who didn't get to see it?

1) Shanny announces game ball to #5, to a chorus of teammates cheering him on.

2) McNabb says (hoding football in hand) "this represents team"

3) Thanks defense for bailing his behind out in the 2nd half.

4) Tells defense offense will pick up its play, beginning with him.

5) Closes with "we all make mistakes", and something to the likes of "...and they (the Eagles) made one last year!" (Takes knee)

6) Random teammate yells off camera "ABSOLUTELY!" (My guess: Haynesworth, who knows about mistakes made last year. )

7) ...to which #5 responds with a smirk "ABSOLUTELY!!"

8) Back to the studio, where Lirk, Terry, Howie, and Jimmy bust out laughing at the dig at the Eagles

9) Immediately switched the channel.

10) End.

...Sorry, I just felt this needed a tenth step. :?

My take:

Positives:

The Skins out hit them right out of the blocks ... the running game was strong, and the defense shut down the vertical game, forcing a lot of underneath stuff ... kept the points off the board. And it was a WIN!!!

Negatives:

McNabb's nerves ... he didn't have a solid game ... pretty mediocre.

Heyer HAS GOT TO GO ... he was perhaps Phily's best weapon today. His penalties literally almost cost the game.

Carlos "NO HANDS" ... how can he be so inept at catching a football?

And, I'm, not convinced yet of Kyle Shanahan's genius ... questionable play call on first and goal at the 3 ... a pitch to Banks? After running the ball straight at them so successfully? TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE call

And I believe last week's loss to the Rams was in large part due to the abandonment of the running game.

A work in progress ... I suppose.

Dan Patrick, during the NBC game highlights, just called Ryan Torain, Ryan "Toe-ran".

Way to prepare for your job, DP!! LOL

I'm hearing possible 3 broken ribs for Vick. That sucks. He is a good player and I never wished him harm....but this is the NFL. Mini-car crashes every down.

I started a "mike Vick is still pretty awesome" thread....so you know how I feel about Vick. BUT our D was hard on him today....thus the results and the Win.

I don't remember the last time that I was less excited about a win. That was some brutally awful football by both teams. We didn't win the game so much as we did less than the Eagles to lose it. The only positive to take away from this game is the W, because we played very poorly on offense, defense, and special teams. It's sad how bad the NFC East is this year.

Looked like Fat Al had a pretty good day. 4 solo tackles, one for loss, and a pass defensed. I just caught the last 5 minutes, and noticed he was in on that last smeagles series. Was he in very much?

I can't agree there. You are right we played badly, but I think NFC East games are like this very often...these teams know what the other is trying to do. Remember the 7-6 game versus the Cowboys last year?

I always like to take the W and learn a lesson rather than having to correct errors coming off of a Loss.

- I think Haynesworth was into a lot of the 1st half. In fact, Eagles guard was holding Haynesworth on the dash where Vick was crushed. Without the hold, Vick is down at the line of scrimmage.

- My own thought: they don't give style-points, and winning by a few is better than losing by a few. Ugly game.

I would agree with you if we hadn't looked like crap against Dallas, the Rams, and in the second half against the Texans. Other than in the Texans games where we made some big plays and so did they, the rest of our games have involved bad football by all teams involved.

Plus the fact the Skins have been up pretty big on 3 of their 4 opponents and they continue to not put these games away when they have the chance to do so. They have no killer instinct. The saying has become somewhat cliche, but it still rings true; you keep letting a team hang around and they'll come back on you. The Skins could just as easily be 0-4 right now because of their failure to put teams away.

The Redskins nearly lost a game they never should've had a chance in. I'll take it.
