There are too many positives to be taken from this game to focus on the negative. The Skins blew a big lead today, but it was also against a very good football team that is an Offensive nightmare for defenses. Suck it up, quit whining, and keep cheering on our beloved Skins!
I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Yes, the Texans are a good offense, but there is no excuse for our D being as pathetic as they were. It's not like our guys were just getting beat. There were multiple times when Andre Johnson, the best receiver in the NFL, was wide open and uncovered. Schaub threw for 497 yards...last year he didn't go over 400 a single time. This was a pathetic display of football by our defense today.

How about the realization that this was a 4-11 team least year. STFU and be happy that the Skins are competitve again, albeit against a damn good team. Like I said, focus on the posistives. there were many. I'm not blind. I know that there are areas that need to be addressed, but damnit, they looked better than they have in a LONG time.
You'll always be remembered Sean. R.I.P.

I don't know how you can give up 497 yards in the air and still get 5 sacks and all of those pressures .... it really is just a great performance from the Texan offense rather than a poor defensive effort in my opinion.
Doughty is not Ed Reed, and this really is one of the weak spots .... can you even imagine this defense with Sean Taylor???? Man, I wash he were still with us.
Giving up 497 yards is a suk-a$$ defensive performance no matter how you spin it....
I disagree. We could certainly have used a great free safety rather than a passable one, but Houston played lights out ... I mean, we put some serious pressure on Shaub and he still made a TON OF PLAYS (take note, Jason Campbell fans).
My biggest concern is the terrible run blocking of this offensive line. It's truly pathetic, and a testament to McNabb and the pass pro to do what they did without even a hint of a running game.

And the Texans a 9-7 non-playoff team last year. It's not like we lost to a 14-2 team from last year. Yes, they are a good team that will likely make the playoffs this year, but we are SUPPOSED to have a good defense. As bad as we were last year we never gave up 497 yards to a qb. There were plenty of people that questioned the decision to go to a 3-4 D given our personnel and so far that is turning out to be a very stupid idea. Our offense looked better today than it has in a looooong time....On the flip side though, our D looked worse than it has in years.

We put pressure on him, but that doesn't mean very much if the secondary is clueless. There were multiple breakdowns and Johnson was left uncovered on multiple occassions. No excuse for that.

Shaub made a ton of plays because his receivers were wide open the entire game

I stand-by my statement at the beginning of the year. We don't have the personnel to run the 3-4. The first two weeks have been a defensive abortion. The fact that Dallas only scored 7 points was more on the ineptitude of the Dallas players and coaches rather than the Washington defense making plays.
The 3-4 only works if you can control the point of attack with a NT (we can't), can generate pressure with superior size/quickness on the edges (we can't) and have athletic LBs who are good in coverage (we don't) . So why are we doing rather than the Haslett wants to because he saw the Jets and the Raiders run it?
Put your best players in position to make players....don't shoehorn them into some defensive system that can't and won't work for them.

Our passing offense looked great, but how long is that gonna last when all our opponents know we don't have a running game whatsoever?

What are you talking about? Other than not being able to stop the run or the pass, our defense looked fine...

Finally, the play of the game was the 3rd and 15 call at the end of the 3rd Qtr. We bring the house including a CB and a safety completely exposing ourselves for the screen...which the Texans run and capitalize on to the 5 yds line (a 50 something yd gain). Why not play safe, keep everything in front of you give up the 7-10 yd pass and make them punt. This play made them think they had a chance. If we make them punt, they don't get the ball back until until 13 still down 17. Instead, they get the ball down 10 with 10 minutes left.
Somebody tell Haslett that he's not coaching in the UFL against Jim Fassel anymore. He needs to use his head.

I just said a little earlier, I'm not ready to fire Haslett but he's not a defensive genius.

The problem is that when he didn't bring the house Schaub was picking us apart and when he did Schaub burned us. He's a heck of a quarterback, very impressive performance. And when we hammered him it didn't even slow him down. We left too many guys open, but when we didn't he still burned us, it was very frustrating. But bringing the house wasn't Haslett's mistake because not bringing the house sure wasn't working.
Hail to the Redskins!

I was sure we were going to win big today. I knew the offense was going to get it going, and they didn't dissapoint. We were just snakebit today, and not destined to win that one.. Man that hurts.
I missed the first half, then I saw the score and thought we had a shot at winning the game.
The graphic came up - 3 yards rushing - END OF STORY
no team wins with 3 yards rushing and a half to play
funny (or really stupid) to see some posts here about missing assignments on special teams and the refs making bad calls
ARE YOU KIDDING ME - we lost because we have an offensive line that could only get 3 yards rushing in a half
we are greatly improved from last year but we need an offensive line and we are trying to get there but it takes time
we are 1-1 and I'm sure we'll be tied for the lead - this is a good thing
we are not finding a way to win ANY games if we cannot run the football - END OF STORY
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

i would also like to add, something that i believe Riggins mentioned a year or two ago, that clinton portis has got to have the worst balance of any runningback in the NFL.
on that run that preceeded the 3rd and 1 where we had the false start, portis probably should've scored, and definitely should've had the 1st down, but instead he stumbled over himself as usual.
(i'm aware that he may have been tripped up a little while breaking into the open, but i maintain that any other RB in football would have been able to regain his balance with relative ease there.)

I'm a painful pessamist but even I can see that things will turn around, hopefully. It will be a slow process. No one here should have thought they were going to the superbowl. BUT they will be competitive all year. This team only knows how to play gut-wrenching games.
I did not think they would win this game but and I'll take a 1-1 split with the cowboys and texans. If they win against the Rams, and make no mistake that game will be another close one, then they will be 2-1 and will be going to play the eagles for first place.
It will be ok. This isn't the last game they will lose. Once they tweak some roster spots they will be fine.

May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.
