horrifically bad play calling in the red zone. fg's instead of td's is how you lose.

It's amazing... Several different combinations of head coaches and offensive coordinators, and the red zone performance is exactly the same.

That's not the place to establish the run though. You go with your strength (which for us is the passing game) to get the TD. You establish the running game early in the drive, not in the redzone.
