I just thought this was a cool picture. Shannahan should bring a no nonsense type of mentality to this team, that's been lacking for some time now. You might not like how he's handled certain situations (ie Haynesworth), but he is going to bring credibility to this team. I have been on numerous sports websites and when they ask the poll question, "Whose the best coach in the NFC East?," Shanahan wins every time.
With a great head coach, a competent GM, and an owner who will break the bank for any player, we have a winning combination for the first time since Joe Gibbs and Jack Kent Cooke were heading the Skins up in the 80s and 90s.
I honestly haven't been this excited for the start of the season in a loooong while. It's GAMETIME! Sunday night, we are going to show those Cowboys who the real Beast of the East is! Go Skins!!!!

I agree with these sentiments - I am really looking forward to seeing this franchise get back to being consistently competitive and I think we will see that - this is the begining, IMO, of a new look for this franchise - we'll hopefully see a group on the field that understand what is needed to ensure success and they will be giving a much better effort than we have seen for a long time here
I would not be surprised to see these guys end up winning this opening game but I'm looking for about an 8-8 or 9-7 record this year and a return to the playoffs next season
I think the pukes are winning the NFC East though
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
I shared your optimism, but Haynesworth has really bumbed me out. I'm in Chicago, and able to talk about the Skins to other fans, and he is looked at as such a deadbeat. I hate that it has taken over the positive vibes of this new front office.
Miss you 21

we may have some issues but a lot of what you're hearing is overblown
we are not going to be as good as some here think but I really am encouraged about how much better we'll be than last season - 8-8 or even 9-7 is really a big improvement given how many players we still need on OL, WR and RB on offense alone
we are going to look a lot better on the field this year
how are things looking in Chicago - I have them finishing under Detroit this year - this is not good

I'm not sure they have much on Offense...no WR's, and a very poor line. Their O is very similar to ours...average at best. But I think our defense is better across the board. Come on up to the skins/bears game. There is a fairly large contingent up here. There's even a skins bar. should be a very good game too.
Miss you 21

I agree - I think that this year we really do have a lot to look forward to and like c'ville pointed out - a lot of teams have done amazingly well following a horrific season, why not us
there's a lot of reasons to think that we could be that team, this year

I agree with the voice of wisdom and experience ...
... a more competitive team on the right track with significant improvements but also with several question marks and definitely room for improvement in a few positions ...
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
Damn I was born in 85 but I hope to see some epic games w us beating the cowboys like that.. Fat Al should watch our defense crush their qb and do the same to homo

This is an exciting time, because Snyder might finally have figured out how to be an owner. However, realistic expectations are somewhere near .500 for a final record, so not that exciting.
Going into the 1991 season was definitely the most exciting since I started watching in the early 80's with my Dad. I was too young to appreciate the first SB teams, and 1987 wasn't fully expected. 1991, coming off the loss to the giants in the NFC championship, everyone knew they would be good and Washington was the early favorite. Then the buzzaw through the regular season. 1991 was absolutely the most anticipation.
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?
SnyderSucks wrote:realistic expectations are somewhere near .500 for a final record, so not that exciting.
What makes those expectations realistic? Because you share them?
Best record since 1991 - 10-6. New Offense, New Defense. Paper thin depth on O-line. One proven WR. Portis has a history of concussions, so who knows how long he lasts. The only spot they have any depth on offense is TE. Aside from ey, if anyone gets hurt, do they have any backups that can come close in production?
Do you expect that they'll go through the entire season injury free? One injury on the O-line and you are looking at a repeat of last season. And you are expecting something better than in the range of .500? Perhaps I should roll my eyes at you. I'd love to see 10-6 or better, but the string of events required to get to that record is very improbable. No injuries. Unproven guys perform at a top level at multiple positions. Multiple guys perform at a top level at new positions. It could happen, and Angelina Jolie could show up at my house and adopt me.

Or they could go 4-12 again. I just want to know what makes any one blind prediction more "realistic" than another.

Yes, deadskins, I agree, that's crux of it all. Predictions, especially in the NFL, are essentially blind. Year after year the "experts" are proven wrong. That's why I just go into every game as a fan expecting my team to win and let the season play out. I criticize actual play...not imaginary future play. But then again, I guess that's a good reason for my average of just over 100 posts per year.
But don't let me stop you guys. I'll just grab another pail of popcorn and (occasionally) watch you duke it out.
Although I will point out that the title of this thread is NOT "Lets get ready for some Predictions!"

I suppose I'm overreacting just a bit, but I've grown really tired of hearing people say it's unrealistic for us to expect to have a good season this year. If you look at it mathematically, the average record in the NFL is always going to be .500, so I guess it's "realistic" to say any team will finish 8-8.

and that's so unlike you
we should see a lot of improvement from what we saw last year - while anything is possible and it would be great to end up 10-6 I think that we'll see a much better product on the field and a return to the playoffs on a consistent basis next year, not this
we have a lot of issues to improve on here but I do believe in the Shanahans and Allen - this is the begining of seeing our franchise return to much better days
last year was embarrassing - this year we'll see a lot of improvement - that is encouraging
