Depth Chart
Just some things iv been brewing on while I get ready to open up this season. Now I know you cant put much into these depth charts but I would feel a little more comfortable with these changes.
WR....Armstong over Galloway. I think these two have a very similar skill set. Why not go with the youth, someone who is hungry. I think Armstrong has got better hands.
G/T.... I think we needed to keep another OL on the active roster. I didnt see a need for Vonnie Holliday on the 53. I think the right side of our OL is gonna have some trouble staying healthy.
OLB...I think we really dropped the ball on this position. We have our two best outside backers playing the same position in Orakpo and Wilson. Why dont we just move Wilson to the other side. These are our two best athletes at the position. I have said it before Carter is going to get embarrassed trying to tackle a third down back in the flat. I think Wilson brings the best pass rush and cover skills of the three(Carter and ZO) I guess Im really disapointed in Alexander too.
DB...I think we missed out on keeping Tryon over Westbrook. Both were big contributors on Special teams. but, I think Tryon was the better cover guy great speed I saw him ready to turn a corner this year. Not completely sold on Barnes.
And Last but not least my boy Brandon Banks. I think its well documented on how excited I am about banks. I see we have Buchanan as our PR man. I would understand if we were a Superbowl contender and we wanted to play it safe and rely on our high powered offense, but were not so lets take a chance with some really explosive speed. The only way I'll be okay with Devin Thomas returning KO would be if we were using Banks at the WR postion as well. If we are not using Banks at WR then he needs to be returning Kickoffs.
Lastly, Moore gets his job back as soon as he is ready to go. I dont care how well Doughty plays.

It's not the 70s anymore where not starting means not playing. Both will play and Armstrong will get more time as he demonstrates it's warranted. Officially starting Galloway is a lot better for Armstrong to keep the spotlight off him while he does that.

I don't believe anyone thinks we plan to go very long without another OL.

Strong side and weak side LB aren't the same position

Tryon and Westbrook were pretty much tossup. Barnes clearly hasn't proven himself but it's his second season. But I agree it's time for him to start stepping up

I'm guessing they'll both get shots at both positions. Banks was electric, but it was pre-season and obviously holding onto the ball was an issue. Thomas has sucked so far as a returner in prior years. Neither is a sure fire receiver either. If either starts to play well at either position, they'll get to keep doing it. Either are potential mid-season cuts as well.

Again...not the 70s...

No surprises on Redskins' depth chart
There don't appear to be any major surprises on the Washington Redskins' depth chart heading into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Redskins' released the depth chart Tuesday afternoon, and the starters on both sides of the ball are unchanged from the depth chart at the end of the preseason.
A couple of notable items:
-- While Mike Shanahan declined to reveal his punt and kick returners on Monday, Devin Thomas is still listed as the top kick returner, followed by Byron Westbrook, Brandon Banks and Keiland Williams. Phillip Buchanon is listed as the top punt returner, followed by Banks.
-- Joey Galloway is still listed as the No. 2 receiver, which would seem to suggest he'll start opposite Santana Moss on Sunday. Roydell Williams is listed as Moss's backup, while Anthony Armstrong is listed as Galloway's. Both Banks and Thomas are listed as third-string receivers.
-- Albert Haynesworth is still listed as the backup nose tackle and is not listed at all among the defensive ends.
-- Stephon Heyer is listed as the backup at both offensive tackle positions. Kory Lichtensteiger is the No. 2 left guard and center, and Will Montgomery is listed as the No. 2 right guard.
-- Larry Johnson is the No. 2 running back, followed by Keiland Williams.
-- Kevin Barnes is listed as DeAngelo Hall's backup at cornerback and Westbrook is listed as a third-teamer.
-- With Kareem Moore recovering from knee surgery, Chris Horton is listed as the backup at both strong and free safety. Reed Doughty is listed as the top free safety.

Speed doesn't mean a damn thing if you can't hold onto the ball. No coach is going to start a rookie that has a fumble and a muffed punt in four preseason games.

We're in the minority in this thought process from the other thread. I don't know how much we can afford to let him learn on the fly; as of now our offense isn't high powered enough to make up for those kinds of mistakes.

Conversely, you could say. Our offense needs all the help it can get and Banks has more of a chance to dramatically change field possition than Phillip Buchanon!
Also, he would offer a legitimate home run threat on offense for a few special plays.
I'm not expecting us to be real playoff contenders this year, so why not let the kid learn on the fly!

Says who? Buchanon has proven himself as a punt returner, Banks certainly has not. One big return in the preseason doesn't mean all that much.

Yes, nothing that happens in the pre-season matters other then to give someone a shot in the regular season

He has his shot, hopefully he'll learn how to judge punts which might cut down on his muffs, if he gets a chance to actually return a punt, but I doubt he'll be changing field position week 1, because he'll be watching Buchanon this weekend. I'm not sold on Buchanon just yet, but if we like what we see and BB watches long enough we could see Banlks and Austin flip-flop roster spots

Because if we had two "tana"s, we would cut, or just not play one? That makes perfect sense.
