USA Today: NFL TV blackouts loom in several cities

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

USA Today: NFL TV blackouts loom in several cities

NFL TV blackouts loom in several cities

The blackout blues will be back this season for some NFL fans.
At least 11 NFL teams could be facing TV blackouts in their home markets as the NFL fights through a downward trend in stadium attendance.

A confluence of issues — including a still-struggling economy, the quality of the viewing experience in fans' homes and sustained poor performance among some teams — have come together to keep some teams off local TV.

NFL rules require that games be blacked out in the home market if it is not sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff. The league had 22 games (8.6% of the regular season) blacked out last year, a five-year high. And the forecast for the new season is already gloomy in many markets.

Sounds like a problem that the teams need to address. If they didn't price out the consumer, we'd be more likely to attend.

If there are a family of four tix's are $100 each, parking $30, food $200 - you're looking at a $600+ day. That's just crazy. Who can justify that with everything that's going on in today's economy. New Stadiums are cool and all but we don't NEED them.

Exactly!!!!!

We're not wealthy but we're not poor in my house. But how do I justify to my Wife that I want to get tickets for us as a family and that those ticket's are going to cost "X" I'm in Real Estate and she's a school teacher. These are two jobs in the state of California that are considered very unstable. It just wouldn't happen and I wouldn't even mention it.

That, and too many football "fans" are complete jerks - loud, belligerent, drunken, foul-mouthed fools. Why would I want to pay $600 or more to expose my family to that? I go to just enough games to remind myself why I don't go to more games. EVERYTHING is better at home - costs less, better view (depending on seats), no traffic hassles, cheaper food and beer, no restroom lines, etc. That, and I don't have to worry about some tool screaming in front of my kids or a fight breaking out. I've been to pro hockey and baseball games, and never found the crowds as bad as at pro football games.

 Let me clarify - it's football, not opera, so really, it SHOULD be LOUD!! However, fans don't need to drop the f-bomb so much - that's my real gripe. Pro football games just aren't, in my experience, family-friendly.

While I try to be repsectful, I believe and teach my kids that words are just words. I don't want my 2yo dropping the Fbomb as you say, but I like to respect other people as well, and if that's the way they are, then so be it. I wouldn't let a little beligerence put a damper on my fun. I have thicker skin than that.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

GSPODS:
The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.

I don't do the curse thing often but I do try and look around when i first sit to see where the youngyins are. If they aren't in earshot I drop every word from A-Z but I don't be like "F youuuuu maaaaaan" real loud or anything like that. Most x's I notice I'm like "wtf".. as in recent Skins years. Example.. our 2 time fake field goal :hmm:
