WR depth

Post by northcarolinaredskin »

So it appears that we will enter the season with a recieving group which consists of...

Moss, Thomas, Banks, Austin, Galloway. Cooley and Davis are also both very talented pass-catching TE's.

I think that Malcolm Kelly's injury was a major hit to our recieving squad and passing up on TJ did us no good either. We need more help at WR especially playing in the division that we are in against very talented secondaries.
Wish there was a way to reach out somehow and get Vincent Jackson and get Albert Haynesworth out of a redskins jersey.

There just seems to be no attempt to fix this part of the team. Joey Galloway is 39 and is far older than T.O. and Housmanzadah and has been far less productive over the last two years. I think it is a stretch to think a slowing and aging 39 year old is going to improve on his 20 catches over the last two years.

Banks can't really be relied on as a WR, he had trouble adjusting to some passes in preseason, dropped one or two and fumbled on without getting hit.

Thomas just doesn't seem to instill confidence in the coaches.

The WR's are to me the worst part of the entire team by far. If Clinton Portis stuggles the RBs would be a close second.

Actually, Banks had a pretty good preseason as a WR. His fumbles were on ST. There was a pass (against the Cardinals) that he lost when he dove and hit the ground, that should have been ruled incomplete. He scooped it back up before any defender came near him, and the ref came over and marked him down. But overall he had several plays where he had good yardage after the catch. He finished with 8 rec. for 129 yds. and a 16.1 Yds/Rec avg., second only to Moss.

i think everyone is grasping with banks. two fumbles in the preseason is not good. We cant rely on a guy that has never played a snap in the regular season.
I know this guy named Jimmy, he has a pet....POSTERNUTBAG! Thats his cats name, POSTERNUTBAG!!!

When Mike Shanahan was asked why he kept Banks, he replied: "Because , that's where the money is." :)

Last time I checked, Brandon has zero fumbles in his NFL career.

Sure, some people have high expectations for Banks, but then again we want nothing but the best from all of our players. I think there might even be a word for it, but it doesn't come to mind right now.

Oh yeah! It's called a fan!

Banks might do some things on special teams but he isn't going to do much as a receiver imo this year. The play against the Jets where he just gave up on the deep ball is a prime example of his issues at receiver. Right now he is an athlete, not a receiver.

Don't be surprised if he doesn't dress for the game on Sunday. I could see DT on koff returns and Buchanan on PR's. Even though he didn't do it in preseason, he's done it in his career so there's enough tape to show what he can do.

I also have zero fumbles in my nfl career.

I hope he does well like every player on the redskins but like frank cal said chances are he wont be on the 45 active. I hope he proves me wrong.

You never had an NFL career.
I think he'll dress, and be returning kicks and punts. He may even get a couple touches on offense in a bubble screen or an end-around.

An NFL career usually means playing in an NFL game.

I hope he can produce and do all the things you say. That would be great.

What Banks brings to the table is excitement and big play potential, and we haven't had that at the PR and KR position for quite some time. Obviously the coaches think that potential is worth keeping him and offsets his fumbling issues (or non issues). If he plays WR at some point, great but that is not why he is on the team.

Banks is a playmaker period. He can develop but i do not believe that it is likely to see him have a major impact early on at least, hopefully he proves me wrong, so i would not be surprised at him to make a play or two.

Couldnt we work out some sort of a deal for Vincent Jackson???

My feeling is that if Banks is asked to contribute early on offense, that means the other guys aren't getting it done, which is bad for us, at least in the short term.
