It's too bad, but if he can't stay healthy even for a little bit he's no use to us. Time to move on.

Okay, so I guess I wouldn't call him a bum either, BUT he's had hammy problems for a while now and you'd think he'd do whatever it took to keep them from cropping up like AT LEAST WARMING AND STRETCHING BEFORE A WORKOUT HE KNEW WAS GOING TO BE HARD (referring to the pre-season Mcnabb workout). I mean, that's just careless and stupid.
Bottom line for me: If he can't get on the field, he's no use to the team.

I still say we'd have been better off keeping Marko Mitchel instead of Kelley... especially since he's averaging 71 yards a catch in preseason...

Then again if we cut Colt -AND- Kelly then our benches aren't going to have that toasty warmth to them...

8/30 Rashad Jeanty (LB) cut.
8/30 Tom Nelson (S) Placed on the physically unable to perform list (knee).
8/30 Maurice Purify (WR) suspended (1 game (nfl personal conduct policy)).
8/29 Gibril Wilson (S) Placed on IR (left knee

So maybe we can put Kelley on PUP.

Nope.
The Redskins cannot list Kelly as physically unable to perform because he did not begin the season on the PUP list, so it now appears Kelly is on shaky ground.

It's academic now that he's IR, but the Shanahans love this kid... one of the reasons that is the case is because, apparently, no one out works him... the upshot of that is that it's not likely that he's reinjuring due to inadequate preparation... more likely, just bad luck.

I just can't help but find it embarrassing for a professional football player to be put on IR for a freaking hamstring strain. Not just for Kelly but for the staff to allow a player to lose an entire season to a hamstring. Just seems crazy to me.
We've been reading all training camp about Kelly testing his hamstring and working out on the sidelines which I don't understand at all. My experience with hamstrings has been that you can't play through them - you only make them worse that way, and the only fix is to completely rest and ice frequently.
I guess he'll have a full year to rest it. What a waste!

Out of curiousity, does Kelly earn any money from the skins when he's on the IR?
I'm glad we did this rather than cutting him. Clearly he couldn't be on the 53 man roster, so given the option of cut him or IR him, I'll take the IR. This kid could still turn out to be something for us.

He'll get the 450K that he was due this year... it was guaranteed so it's a moot point (would have been paid if he were here or not) but now he has time to rehab and learn the system... There is no reason to push it, they didn't draft him so they dont need to rush it... they now have the whole season and the 2011 off-season to get him ready for next year.

Gary Clark never had a problem playing through hamstring issues!
