Who Are Your Choices for the Redskins Six WR Slots?

Post by Red_One43 »

List your six choices.

Here are mine:

Santana Moss - need I say anything
Joey Galloway - still has the speed
Devin Thomas - too great of an upside
Anthony Alrmstrong- great OTA's, great camp and great game performance
Brandon Banks - Hestor lookout!
Terrence Austin - Pretty good receiver now and can return kicks

I like Roydell Williams, but no room
I like Malcom - IR (if some how he gets on the field and impresses - revisit this list should that happen)
I like Shay Hodge - Practice Squad

Let's throw in pursuing a receiver not on our roster as an option for one of the slots - like Vincent Jackson of the Chargers.

Anthony Alridge??? Don't you mean Anthony Armstrong?

I think Banks makes it as a special teamer and a receiver. Malcolm Kelly is cut.

Moss
Armstrong
Austin
Thomas
Williams
Banks

Oops, I do mean Anthony Armstrong. I am still a fan of Alridge who we let go last year and re-signed only let him go again.

Moss. Unfortunately the other 5 currently aren't on our roster...

One of the writers in Tampa was speculating Fat Albert for Michael Clayton.

They can also put Kelly on PUP, which gives him time to heal then come in later in the season.

I think Kelly starts out on PUP. Galloway will be gone. He may look good in practice, but has done nothing in games.
I'll go with:
Moss
Thomas
Armstrong
Austin
Banks
Wade if we don't pick up anyone else.

Moss
Thomas
Armstrong
Galloway
Austin
Kelly or Williams...

I just dont see Banks making the team.. he has done NOTHING at wr to this point for us and I know he had a great punt return for us in the preseason but he has also had some miscews in the return game and I cant see one return warranting a reciever slot on this team.

I would love to see him make the team but just cant see it.. have heard nothing positive about him as a reciever thus far

Moss...constant pro, great routes quick out of the breaks.
Armstrong... over galloway, Knows how to adjust to the ball, hands catcher as opposed to body catcher
Thomas... over Wade, Good run after the catch guy
Kelly...I wanna give this guy one last chance...im a big fan, its just a hamstring
Williams...This guy has been solid with the hands and routes, lets go Roy
Banks...over Austin, Banks is electric, speed kills, gimme some wr screens, let this man do his thing

Moss
Armstrong
Thomas
Kelly
Banks
Austin

Call me crazy but the #1 person there I seen on the fence is Austin. I really think the coaches like Kelly a lot. Not to mention he's our tallest player on the team. I think that's why they are not rushing him to play. He might be out there this week. Word is, he's 80%.

Vincent Jackson (fingers crossed)
Moss - No brainer
Thomas - Out of the terrible two....
Armstrong - looks impressive so far
Banks - Speed kills

The rest of the list is up for grabs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kelly make the roster. The coaches have said he is a good route runner and he has hands, just needs to stay healthy. He is also big tall target, and that we need.

I cannot emphasize this enough: Speed is the key to the 5 and 6 spots.

someone please explain to me what they see in Banks as a receiver? He is 5'7 MAYBE and all of about 160 pounds... if we could put him on this roster without taking up a WR slot I would be all for it but other than that I dont see him as a receiver for us....

Show me one positive report on him as a wide out .. I loved the punt return as much as the next guy and I know hes got plenty of speed but one punt return wont put him on this team as a receiver...

I'll try

I think they'll keep him because of his speed NOT because he's a 'better' WR :D
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

He looked pretty good as a WR in the game against the Ravens.

Armstrong...should start with Moss
Moss...big year with McNabb, seems rejuvinated
Thomas...third receiver

Backups

Banks...very excited about this guy
Austin...good routes, good hands, great speed
Williiams...solid pro, great moves

Cuts
Galloway...has done nothing so far, too old
Kelly...don't see an end to his injuries
Wade...don't think he's better than a journeyman

Overall, I think we have a fine crop of receivers and am only worried about OL, in which I have little confidence, and backups for Portis. If we make any moves on offense, it should be OL and RB, not receivers. Love our tight ends, of course.

Yea this is pretty much what I got as well. I don't know why people like Galloway so much, I haven't seen him do anything to make me say wow, he should be our #2 guy.

With how thin we look at receiver I dont think keeping a player because he is fast is in our best interest.. they have to be the complete package to make a difference.. Thomas has great speed and athleticism but he is having trouble finding the field because he isnt excelling in all aspects that make a good receiver...

Banks will struggle with press coverage due to his size and while his speed is a factor he isnt the only reciever we have with speed. I give the nod to Austin over him based on the fact that he is IMO a better receiver at this point in their careers and he too is someone that can be an asset in the return game

dont get me wrong I am a fan of Banks and think hes an electrifying player but just not at WR... My 2 cents

with 12 players (maybe more at one time) at the WR position we have many options - I just think that if 5 of those are going to be able to contribute - AND, we decide to keep 6, then the 6th player is not just being kept because of what he offers at WR but also because of what intangibles he has to offer - speed is a good thing, no matter how 'big' he is
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

That is a good point and if you think about it that way it could make a lot of sense to keep a kid like Banks on the roster .. my only concern would then be if a guy in front of him went down would he be ready to step up and be a factor..

In that scenario I could see him being cut and replaced with a veteran wide out but lets hope im wrong and Banks makes me eat my own words because I do like the kid dont get me wrong
