New HD boards look horrible at home
I watched the game on ABC and NFL network on my 37" Vizio 1080p. Everytime the new boards at the stadium came into view in the background they were a bright yellow/gold visual eyesore. Did anyone else have this problem? I don't know whether it's a problem with the broadcast that can be tweeked or fixed by the regular season, a problem with my TV or wether to expect it to be a headache for years to come. I'm ready to go buy a new 47 to 55" set if need be. I just don't know if a new set will fix the problem or which brand to get if it does. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TV
Hey man,
Not to be a Debbie Downer but Visio is probably the worst HD tv set you can buy. It just doesn't have the refresh rate you need and your color settings may be off as well.
I would suggest spending a little more money... a tv is a terrible thing to waste! Good luck

I watched the game in HD on a 32" Visio and I thought the new video boards looked great. I actually made a comment to a friend (Bills fan) about how awesome they looked and he agreed. I like my Visio except for the fact that they are a lot cheaper now than when I bought it a year ago.

Well, I have an old school Sony 42" big screen (non HD of course) and I couldn't tell the difference between the old screen and the new screen. Maybe I should upgrade huh?

Words of truth there, Samsungs have the best T.V.s for the money. I compared Panasonic, Sony, Mitsubishi, & L.G.
They looked awsome on my screen. B.Banks was probably watching ALL of the Bills of the washing out in his wake on the big boards. Plus they look good in Madden 11 as well.

I'll agree that the screens were bright, but they have to be bright to be able to be effective in direct sunlight. They're not in a dome like TTiT...
...any given Sunday....

welcome to the site BJPrice - not too sure why or what difference the 'quality' of the new screens at the field mean to you, watching at home - the quality of the picture out there really only matters to those who attend the games - I heard they are a lot better than what we've had
as far as what I watch at home I'm really pleased with the NFL in HD on my Sony Bravia but I'm sure there are a lot of TVs avaiilable that give great quality nowdays - has to be HD and the NFL ticket for a great NFL experience
looks like the franchise might have a few highlights as well
enjoy the season and the site

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm just a bit disappointed. I've watched every episode of Redskins Nation this year and the constant updates while they were going in and selling off the lite bright old pieces. I'm watching the game in a dark room. The grass on the field looks a bit dull, the end zone paintings look dull then suddenly the Big screens come into the shot and just looked awful. I've never been to the stadiums but I've watched every preseason and regular season game broadcast ( still miffed about the last game last year not being televised here) since the early 80's. I was kinda hoping what I was seeing would be what it really looks like. I also wasn't thrilled with the angles of the telecast. It made it hard to tell who was lining up on the D-line. If they were doing it to avoid getting the new HD screens in the shot then those angles might continue. It's starting to sound like it might be my set though which if it is I want hesitate to go pick up a new one and bigger as well. I just want to be sure I'm the only one having the problem and have an idea what brand the video boards looked good on. I went to a couple local Walmarts to check out the sets. They have a clip in loop showing the same thing on all the sets and at one store the field looks greener on the Samsung 47", another one it looked greener on the LG 47". At both the best color was on the 55"Samsung but that's the same set my parents have and the video boards didn't look much better on theirs the few glimpses I caught grabbing pizza between plays to haul back to my room. Just to complicate things my father swears they fiddle with the settings at the store to give the models they want to move fast the best picture so I don't know wether to trust my eyes at the store or not.

If you get a new tv, look for one with a matte finish. Then you don't have to watch in a dark room. My samsung has that. I have no idea why they make so many TV's with the shiny screen - who really watches in a dark room all the time? The only drawback with the samsung is if they have fixed the speakers yet. You have to do quite a bit of mucking around to get the speakers to sound decent. The screen looked fine on my 47".
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?
Now I'm starting to think it might not be my set again. Just caught a few glimpses during Redskins Nation and they didn't look too bad. I load up the game on the dvr again and fast forward to the Doc Walker speech right before kickoff. Over his right shoulder the grass was a nice limey green. Over his left shoulder the grass was a slightly darker green. On the HD board over his left shoulder anytime the action moved to a scene with grass the grass on the HD board looked yellow gold again. I paused it and snapped a picture with my cell phone.

My old TV is pretty much garbage and I didn't know about or care about the screens or the color of the grass. I loved the game. I'm sixty-six and consider money wasted on a new TV to be be money wasted. What I didn't like was Theisman yammering his stupidities and the camera switching to interviews with semi-literates while the game was in process. Something has to be done. It also ticked me off that the guys in the booth sometimes didn't bother to give the name of the tackler.
