I was really impressed with what I saw last night. T. Williams looked really good. The running backs combo of Portis, Torain and Williams looked better than the group last year. The O-line was awesome compared to last year. The defense was better. Awe, where to stop with the accolades.
The Redskins actually looked like an NFL team rather that a pick-up Saturday afternoon team as it did last year. It is going to be hard to not raise expectations and remember that this was the 1st pre-season game and essentially means nothing towards the end of the year. But as an indication of what is to come this year, it does raise hopes.

I know its only preseason but I like what I see so far.
The last time they scored that many in a preseason game was 1988 vs. The Raiders
Nope, it was Spurrier's first preseason game in Osaka, Japan vs. the 49ers.

Hail to the Redskins!
Banks showed everyone last night that he has the ability to take it all the way. Something I have been waiting on for a long time. Something Rock could never do. This to me was one of the most impressive things I saw last night. Speed guys back there taking kicks... who would have thought huh.
Thank you Shanahan for coming here and trimming the fat from this team. Speed in the key, and for years I have been watching this team in what seemed to be slow motion. Not anymore.

Where are all of the draft gurus who whined and bitch-d about how we totally "blew it" on the Trent Williams pick?
Trent looked like a potential big-time LT. McNabb looked good to me. Both sides got off to a shaky start, but I'd chalk that up to nerves. They will only get better, and from what they showed last night, they're already good.
I favored Terrence Austin over Brandon Banks, but I wouldn't be mad if we found a way to keep both of those guys.
Moss
Galloway
Thomas
Banks
Austin
Kelly/Roydell Williams

No? Check the Draft Day thread.

Wow, I was also impressed!!! Befrore last night I was concerned with the WR's, but I guess I was wrong. Great Hands! Randel El who? Gotta love Banks, I hope he makes it. Hanesworth was busting it up, I'm glad he's coming around. Did you hear the post game on Comcast? B. Mitch was even impressed and he tells it like it is.

I don't remember the score, and after a quick shot on Google it says it was 38-7....what did you have?
Sure, it's a larger margin of victory, but I was going based on points scored by the Redskins.

I apologize, Bob, I thought we hung 40+ on them. I must have just been associating the 49ers' team name with the score. It sucks getting old.

Roydell made the best pass reception and move of the night. I couldn't believe the quickness of it. I hope we'll see a lot of him. By the way, you left out Armstrong. I think we'll cut Kelly and maybe Galloway. Banks should make it as a PR and KR. I think we'll keep Moss, Thomas, Austin, Williams and Armstrong as WR's.

Why Galloway? I didn't see him do much last night.

Granted I didn't re-read the entire threads, but I still didn't see anyone saying we totally blew it, just that they thought Okung might have been a better choice.

Our buddy brad had some pretty strong opinions on this. From the second thread...
Apparently this is picking up some real steam. I don't see it. I don't think he is worth a first round pick. I don't care how many position he plays.

the ONLY thing that was really a big plus for me was the way the whole group played with an attitude - the score really means nothing
we could have lost and I could care less - a group of players playing like that are not losing many meaningful games
last night's game had a lot of players on both sides that are not playing in the NFL this season - BUT, a group of players in B&G, played with the type of attitude that means a lot to our franchise
great start for everybody

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

What stood out to me is that they seemed to play as a TEAM.

Ha, can I retract that? Honestly though, if you look at film of Okung and Williams from college there is no comparison. But I like what I see from him so far and he is certainly a beast physically.
I think another issue is that I was so used to being right when I trashed Vinny's picks that I thought it would carry over into the Shanahan era. But maybe he knows something I don't.

It appears that this coaching staff is high on Galloway. And, I just can't see him going from the starting Split End to being cut.

The second thread was pre-draft, so anything said there can't really be seen as saying we totally blew the pick. I'll give you that saying he isn't worth a first rounder, probably comes the closest to meeting that standard, but one post still doesn't justify Hogster's claim, IMHO.

I'm sorry, there is a difference in winning and losing, even in pre-season. Winning this year in pre-season will give the guys confidence in the scheme and in themselves. If they get blown out all 4 games, you think they're going to buy in as much as if they win 3-4 like they did with Buffalo?
I agree with your sentiment that they looked good as a team, but I can't get on board with not caring if they win or lose....winning ALWAYS breeds confidence.

brad7686 wrote:Also, for the record, Williams hasn't played in an NFL game and we don't know how good Okung is yet either. It doesn't matter how good Williams is, if Okung is better than we blew the pick. That said I would rather be wrong and have Williams be the better of the two.
As long as Williams is better for this system, then he is the better pick. Besides, the standard was "totally blew it," so unless Okung is grossly better, that still doesn't measure up.
