POSTGAME THREAD - SKINS WIN BIG!!!!
Congrats to the team. They played a very clean game on offense, defense and Special teams. They looked prepared and ready to play. Not going to get too excited but I do feel very positive about next week.

Johnson, Parker, Horton, Morris? Fred Davis was in and out. I was hoping to see

I also just have to complain about the cuts to interviews on the sidelines and/or film clips while the game was going on. Must be Theismann's influence. The guys is truly an idiot. Oh, have I already said that? Sorry.

Shanahan said in the post game interview that he planned on sitting LJ and Parker this week so he could get a better read on portis, ryan and williams this week. LJ will get a lot of time next week and parker a lot of time the following week. He said it's just a matter of giving a guy enough carries to get going. If you had 5 guys rotating in and out of the game, they wouldn't have time to get warmed up. completely paraphrasing here of course...

Let me say that I think that Armstrong can take over Galloway's spot. Thomas at the #3 and Kelly at #4. Kelly's got to play next week b/c if he doesn't, then he's going to have a really hard time making this team. Esp. if Williams catches another TD.

didn't see the game.
when buf got those rushin yards it was vs our 4th/5th/6th/7th defense

A couple things I saw. Defense gave up that beginning drive all the way down the field and then they got a holding penalty and were pretty much forced to kick a FG. Now I'm not going to knock that too much because it was the first look. They did come out looking good after that.
Deangelo Hall is in for a big year as far as turnovers go. Landry looked good in short coverage.
Portis, my man Portis, wow...
Donovan, threw some heat tonight, the pass to
ey was ridiculous 25 yds down the field like a bullet. Donovan also showed so me elusiveness getting to the outside. Of course he didnt have to do that much because our O-line looked damn good.
Sexy Rexy, I'm ok with you as a backup but I saw you throw a weak pass that should have been picked.... Busch league throw.
Galloway has some legs still.
Overall I was actually impressed with how this team managed to work the ball down the field. They did it very creatively and spread the ball around nicely. Lots of names I had never seen before starting to show off some real talent and im excited for the next few weeks to see how these guys develop.

I am excited. Gano kicked a bunch of touchbacks, we had punts and kicks returned for actual yards not just three yards and fall down. The O line looked like it could be effective, Portis looked like he may have some gas left in the tank, those young small receivers looked pretty good. We will see how this all plays out but I literally cannot remember any game, preseason or not, where all three phases of the game looked so good and the teamed scored so many points.

I know its only preseason but I like what I see so far.
Was it Osaka?
I hope that isn't an omen.

Grossman showed what we can expect from McNabb once he is comfortable with the system. Call it Busch league if you want but both QB's had ratings in the 120 range, not bad for the first test drive.
The only negative I noticed was the broadcast featured a moment between plays when the announcer fit in a Ford slogan and then jumped back to calling plays. I hope that's not a sign of things to come, commercials are invasive as it is and I hope slogan tipping doesn't become a staple of this season. Once something like that happens and people are getting paid, it won't ever stop.
Trent Williams looks kind of like Haynesworth because when he sets his feet and digs in, he overpowers anything in his way. Good lord can he recover his feet

The last time they scored that many in a preseason game was 1988 vs. The Raiders

Apart from that, you have to go all the way back to 2005, week 7, 52 points on the 49ers

I'm not worried about Robinson. He's essentially third string, because the RT would slide over to LT if there is an injury. If he ends up playing, then Washington has lost both start tackles and the season is done anyway.
Andre Carter looked completely out of sorts. He was consistently out of position. If they keep him on the team, I think he has to only play on obvious passing down where he will rush the passer.
What a fun game. Lots of reasons for optimism, no major injuries, and a few problem areas to work on.
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?

I think that the entire team looked a bit wound up on their first possession on both sides of the ball. That's just nerves. But once the game got going and everyone settled down, they looked better. Carter is moving positions so I'm not going to give him a hard time on the first game when he's proven he's an asset to this team.

McNabb still didn't look as crisp and cool as I had hoped, but I wasn't overly impressed with week one, but enough where I can still be excited.
Shoulda woulda coulda...but it WASN'T intercepted. Maybe in BizarroWorld those count, but they don't count here. Rex looked good, and the pass was on point. Last time I checked, this IS the NFL, best of the best and all that jazz.
The thing that worried me was the run defense. It appeared there was little discipline on the outsides and sweeps/outside runs ate us up. I'm sure this will improve, especially when we get Big Al on 1st team, but that was my biggest concern.
Heyer surprised me. I'm still not a fan, but he seemed not horrible and a possible option for backup.
Orakpo's awareness impressed me. He didn't just push and push, he kept the ball in sight and disengaged when needed. He's gonna be special.
Tryon and Westbrook looked pretty good. Perry Riley looked really good for a rook. He's definitely one of the guys I want to watch grow with the skins.
Running game was aight. Lots of sweeps...lots and lots. Jury's still out IMO.
Passing game was a little too horizontal for my liking. I hope it's just b/c of the first pre-season game and Shanahans aren't trying to overwhlem our offense.
Thomas looked good and worked a lot of slot. I still blame the muffed kick on jitters, as the first offensive and defensive series appeared to be.
Also noticed that we had TEs in wideout positions. Is this the gear-up for out two TE sets?
For our first pre-season game, the stadium had a lot of energy; I was mildly surprised. The new boards are big and bright. Definitely a HUGE freakin upgrade. Now, Danny, next year, the sound system !!!!! I had a good time. Weather was BEAUTIFUL and the rain held off!!!

Here's a name to watch - Lee Vickers. He's a 2nd year TE and he looks really good. Not only did he do a good job catching a ball in stride and turning it upfield for the first down, he's a really good blocker. Now it was only against 3rd string guys but he manhandled them. I'd like to see him go against starters or 2nd string guys so we really know what we've got.
