I am sure that a legion of fans, many of whom are either (i) under age 15, or (ii) severely delusional, will be terribly upset tonight. Pour out a little of what'er you're drinking for the fallen hero - Colt Brennan.

No man since David Koresh has convinced more people that he was the Second-Coming without ever really doing anything. Colt, you will be missed.

I don't understand why people were so surprised about his cult following. We had a string of garbage quarterbacks for years, then along comes this fiery kid who lights it up on the field. Whether he played against 2nd or 3rd stringers is irrelevant, since it was one of the rare occasions when a Redskin QB actually looked GOOD. What's not to be excited about? He gave a lot of people hope that just maybe we'd found a late-round gem that could possibly give us a legit, young QB. I mostly blame the Redskins' QB history for his following, not just fans with wild imaginations.

I hope he does well elsewhere... out of our division. Hopefully in the AFC. Better yet, CFL.

I get your point. But...he did these things in ONE preseason game TWO years ago and has not done anything since except make a funny video mocking Tony Romo and Whitten with ey. I never liked him much since he got in trouble for being rough with the ladies at Colorado - proven or otherwise. He seemed a bit prick - ish to me.

Good riddance to hyped rubbish I say. Just another run and shoot joke quarterback. The love affair with him boggles the mind and I agree the lack of a better than decent quarterback in our last 20 years allowed our starving fan base to prop this guy up where his talent was clearly lacking. Time will tell if his cult following was right or, you know, the guy with the two superbowl rings.

Nothing personal, because Colt seemed a decent kid and had some skills. But so do 100 other QB's who are better than him. He had one, maybe two decent showings against 3rd string and below talent. He also had some poor showings. Yet some fans couldn't let go of the irrational puppy love they had for the guy. John Beck has more upside.

Colt was never going to play for us. John Beck is already 29, so he probably won't ever play for us either. Obviously they saw enough of Colt to let him go and try someone else out. At least Beck has starting experience and we got him for virtually nothing.

I was one of the fans that saw a spark from Colt when he first arrived, back when JC was looking lost in his 12th offense in 12 yrs.

I liked him in the role as the underdog, the little QB that could, so to speak.

During his time here, however, he lost his way, in my opinion.

The offseason during which Colt somehow became close buddies with ey revealed to me that he was not focused on what he needed to do to earn the BACKUP ROLE, let alone become the starter.

The funny Dallas youtube vids, and the "Chris ey is my life coach" shenanigans may have been fun for the fans to watch, but I think it took Colt's eyes off the ball.

I never saw what others saw in him. Even his
"great game" was sullied by whom he was playing against and some clearly lucky throws that might easily have been intercepted. I'm rarely excited by a quarterback who likes to take off out of the box at every opportunity. As a defensive lineman I always loved to play against hot dogs who thought they could run, or throw on the run. Colt's play was uncontrolled and ridiculous, not exciting. He was an interception waiting to happen.

Bottom line is this: Brennan was really struggling at Redskins training camp. Many of his passes were off the mark or under-thrown.

He just never seemed to find a rhythm after missing all of 2009 due to hip and hamstring injuries.

For coaches, it may have been hard to evaluate the third- and fourth-team receivers -- guys like Bobby Wade, Mike Furrey, Shay Hodge and Brandon Banks -- because many of Brennan’s passes were poorly thrown.

It was time to cut ties with Colt.

This says a lot to me. If they couldn't evaluate the receivers playing with him he must have been looking really bad.

if a QB doesn't get the chance to play fairly early after being drafted i don't see how he keeps his game sharpness or his game instincts ... almost inevitably, it seems to me, some aspects of his game must actually deteriorate as he warms the bench or holds the clipboard. I know Todd Collins made a career out of it but hey ... for those who love gametime it must take a lot away from what they've got!
I trust the coaching staffs call based on where CB's at now and his fitness record but who knows what he might have done if things had rolled his way ... he did have a spark and a swagger ... i hope he gets a break somewhere
