Break Out Year??

Post by Law Hog »

Who do you think is going to have a break out year this year?

I've said it once and I'll say it again, I think it'll be Chris Cooley. McNabb loves his TEs and goes to them quite often, more than any other Redskins QB we've had in the past 3-4 years.

I think Cooley will benefit from this and, don't look now, may grab 10+ TDs this year.

Who else gets your vote?

Hey Law - welcome to the site even through this isn't your first post. I'm gonna say that we may see on offense - Malcolm Kelly because of his size, speed, etc (even with the recent hamstring issue) and on defense - hold your breath - Carlos Rogers. I have a sense that he may make a name for himself this year. There's something to be said about players in a contract year and I think he'll make some plays with the pressure from the 3/4. I think i'm on a boom or bust type predictions but hell, if we're betting here, I'm gambling.

Don't laugh, but I think Clinton Portis is going to be great this year. I am predicting 1000+ yards & 5+ TDs. He is in shape for the first time since his 1st two years with the team and is reportedly weighing in at 215ish, down from about 230 last year.

We all know about his attitude and trash-talking of Zorn, but Shanahan came in here and has lit a fire under his butt. Reports have him working out and training harder than he has in years. If he is in shape, I see no reason why he won't be able to plug along and get 1,000+ yards.

I think Landry will break out playing in a more agressive defense.

I'm with you on this - I just hope this guy shows the talent and leadership that we were expecting when he came into the NFL - this is a V special player IMO :D
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I don't know where people get this false sense that McNabb likes to go to his TE's! If anything the Eagles TEs have historically been under utilized. Now he love to throw to RBs.

Besides Cooley has been so good for him to have a "breakout year" he would have to have something like 90 catches and 10 TDs.

I think Devin Thomas has the Break out year. ARE is gone, so there is no fall back #2 WR. Thomas came on strong at the end of the year. And McNabb always makes average WRs look good.

I predict Brian Orakpo will have a more definitive breakout year. And I really hope Thomas does.

I do think Chris Cooley will benefit greatly with the addition of Mcnabb. In fact our whole offense will improve.

Chris Cooley already broke out. The league knows how good he is and he also has had a number of good seasons. Fred Davis also had a decent season during Cooleys injury. So I think we have a good idea of what we have with our tight ends.

I am hoping Malcom Kelly and Devin Thomas have a breakout season. We need these young receivers to start living up to there expectations.

You Guys are good! I too think it will be CLINTON PORTIS! He has a lot to prove, especially to a lot of naysayers who think he is done. And I too believe on defense it will be Carlos Rogers as well...Just a hunch!

I"m hoping it's Devin Thomas on offense and Kareem Moore on defense. He's our only true FS on the team (maybe Lendy Holmes, but I don't know anything about him). IMO it's his job to lose. Doughty and Horton are good SS, but I don't think they'll excel at FS like Moore could.

I tend to agree with this statement; however, I truly feel this year will be his best year....ever.

If Cooley has a monster year, so will our offense.

I also like the comments about Portis. I think he'll have a great year, too.

I think it's going to be Devin Thomas on offense. All the pass catchers will benefit from a new offense, a better line, and a better QB, but I think Thomas breaks out and shows he can be a #1 WR in this league.

I think Deangelo Hall has a breakout season on defense, maybe even scoring a few of those pick 6's that I haven't seen from the 'Skins in what feels like years.

Orakpo will be a beast a think, but I wouldn't consider it a "break out season" because we all saw what he was capable of last year and I expect him to be a beast for years to come.

I'm still worried about that massive concussion he had last year. I hope your right. I have never liked his mouth but he has always done the best he can on the field.

I know me too! But CP has always been a beast for the Washington Redskins...He truly is one of the best backs the NFL has seen in many years and I think he has been a little underrated in all that he has done in his 8 years of ball. I look forward to our star running back doing his thing this year to the tune of 1,500 yards and better.

I know Orakpo was a pro bowler last year, but I think he is going to REALLY break out this year and become a terror on the defense.

Would be awesome to see Devin Thomas break out as some of you guys said. Wouldn't be surprising with McNabb throwing passes to him.

Also I think Jason Campbell is going to break out!!! hahah.

I'm hoping that our receivers and secondary have a great season - both of these groups should benefit from the players and systems that we will see here this year
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
