ESPN's top NFL prospects - Tryon

Post by brad7686 »

5. Justin Tryon, CB, Washington Redskins
It's hard to make much of an impact in the Washington secondary. Over the past few years, no team has dedicated more resources to the defensive backfield -- both draft picks and free agent cash -- than the Redskins. Yet, while DeAngelo Hall allows countless completions and LaRon Landry overruns play after play, the team unearthed a bona fide starting corner in the fourth round of the 2008 draft. Tryon only started two games during his second year in the league, but he played like he belonged in the Millionaires' Club. According to the Football Outsiders game charting project, Tryon allowed 5.8 adjusted yards per attempt, nearly a half-yard better than any other Redskins corner. Despite spending time in the slot, Tryon didn't allow receivers to get open deep; passes at him were only thrown an average of 7.8 yards away from the line of scrimmage, the lowest figure -- by far -- among Redskins corners. He took Fred Smoot's job away during the year, and while he has to beat out Phillip Buchanon for the nickel job in camp (spoiler: he will), he may have Carlos Rogers' starting job in his back pocket by the end of the season.

Apparently, to qualify for this list you have to be a 3rd to 7th round pick in the last 3 years.

it's right on the front page of ESPN today:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/ ... id=5374109

It is a pretty small sample of plays to be drawing such big conclusions from, but I'll take every does of hope and positive news I can get. Kevin Barnes has some good upside too, IMO.

Another ESPN article today listed the Skins as last, #32, of teams with the most talent under the age of 25.

I read FO (though I'm not a subscriber to their premium stuff) and never saw this about Tryon. Not bad!

Personally, I don't have any memories of seeing Tryon play from last year. Then again, there is a lot about last year that I have tried to block out . . .

I have no memories of his play that stand out….which is to say he did not amaze me nor did he get burned that I remember.

It bases him being ready to take over los’ spot because of same strange stat about yards per attempt against….

There’s so many things there. He covered the slot mostly, which doesn’t go deep. He was on the offenses third wr. And how do you say who the attempt was against in zone coverage? If you play soft against the slot and they run multiple 5-7 yard slants on you and you make the tackle after the catch you are going to have low yard per attempt against…does that mean you did your job? But because he was better in this stat than other skins db’s he’s ready? I am not sold.

He is a serviceable nickel until he shows otherwise to me.

I like Tryon....but I think this is HYPE for now. We'll see.

Isn't Tryon the kid that D. Green was grooming.....HMMMMM...? I wish the kid much success.

I like to hear positive things about the Skins. Because we usually don't...

That is some funny stuff. That guy should have scored on the return.

^The problem is... it wasn't a return lmfao!

We should have kicked a field goal and been happy with 3. We MAY have had somewhat of a chance going into the locker room at halftime with some points on the board, and come out with a little more confidence. If anything, if we were 5-10 yards back from where we were we could have punted and they would have returned it, but that was an interception lol.

That was the absolute worst play I've witnessed in Redskins history.

I heard it for a few weeks after we did that. Just uuugly!

That play was the culmination of Snyders meddling. One play so symbolic of the Snyder era. LMAO! What else could I do but just laugh. We had endured another terrible season. It just had to go down that way. Im going to throw away the other moments from the bad seasons. The swinging gate I somehow am going to cherish that memory. Every time I need a good laugh.

Then the Boos started to erupt! I think that was when Snyder may have realized he does not have a clue? OH boy that was such a glorious moment. NOT! :P :?
