NFL Network has a clip about Vincent Jackson training in Arizona at a facility where he's been catching passes from DMcNabb. This is a clear sign of change if anyone hasn't bought into it yet. None of the previous regimes had the nerve to fly our QB to a remote location to throw passes to a potential trade acquisition. This is such a bold move by our FO to quietly take the Chargers car for a test drive without permission. If it went well I'm sure we'll hear about it in a few days and if not we'll just figure it out later on.
Either way this indicates a clear upgrade in the department of trying to get things right.

on NFL Radio they talked about how if any year, this year is best to dump draft picks for proven talent. They say this because of the current situation with 1st contract guys like Jason Campbell where his contract was extended one more year. There should be a few hundred guys available out there that are proven guys in the NFL vs someone who's not. So if you can get Jackson for a 2nd round pick, I would do it. But it's probably going to take the nxt two years' 2nd round pick.

Actually, McNabb trains in Arizona with players from other teams every year. I think McNabb also has a home there. So, I don't think this was our Front Office's doing - but it is pretty sweet.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

Yes, we are lucky that we got anything in return for JC.
No, they could have gotten a lot more if they had waited until training camp. Someone's starter will go down in preseason, then they could have gotten something like a second rounder out of a desperate team. Why they traded him when they did is a guess. Either they were doing him a favor or they wanted the distraction gone.

I think we traded him at that point in time for all those reasons. Trade him early give him a chance to get started somewhere, we also did not want the distraction and why start off that way anyhow. Its questionable how much we could have gotten for JC. A second round pick? I doubt that.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

McNabb who is much older, went for a high second and a third or a fourth. The redskins gave up a second a couple of years ago for Jason Taylor in a similar situation. Look what seatle gave up for Charlie Whitehurst. A lot of people on here are down on Campbell because he'll never be Peyton Manning, but don't overlook what he is. He's a solid middle of the pack type starting QB in this league. Read almost any preview about the Raiders and they describe him as a huge upgrade over Russell.
If they got lucky with a desperate, they could have gotten a second, almost certainly a third. They obviously had reasons not to wait and try to get more value after an injury.

it the best we could get from the raiders was a 5th rounder, in what world or circumstance could we have gotten a 2nd rounder? the very best we ever coulda done woulda been a 3rd rounder, and that's only if a teams 1st and 2nd qbs both went down and the team needed a starter...

without Snyder & Cerrato making deals any more, there is nobody in the NFL that was going to give anything much for Campbell after what he showed the last few years
there is no way that anyone would have given up much and we were VERY fortunate to get sometrhing for him
not too sure that we should give up too much for Jackson but I have a lot of confidence in the current FO and if they think they don't have the horses with the 11 OR 12 guys currently available I'm sure they'll do what it takes to make sure that McNabb has the best weapons
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

As I said, maybe a 2nd if someone was desperate, ala the jason taylor trade a couple of years ago. Seattle moved back 20 spots in the second plus next years third rounder to get Charlie Whitehurst. 5th year in the NFL, never thrown a single pass. Let someone who loses his job this year without a winning record have his starting QB go down, and watch how fast the phone would have been ringing.
Campbell stats last year behind one of the worst lines in the history of the NFL. Completion percentage 10th, QB Rating 15, yards, 14, average 15, 3rd most sacks. Looks like solid middle of the pack numbers, and better than quite a number of teams last year. Pretending that Campbell isn't a capable starter in this league just because he isn't Manning or Brady requires willful ignorance of the facts.
Mcnabb? Completion percentage: 20th. QB Rating; 12th, yards 17th, average 7th, sacks - 7th most.
Allen and Shanahan obviously decided that moving him early was more important than trying to maximize compensation. They appear to be making an opposite decision with Haynesworth, hoping that someone will get desperate in training camp. Never underestimate the bad long term decisions a team will make if they are faced with losing their jobs in the short term.

I tend to agree. Qb is different. Teams knew that the Redskins didn't value JC, and therefore they wouldn't have to give much up to get him. Who is going to give up a high draft pick for a player that is constantly under scrutiny from the team that is trading him? Nobody has heard anything negative about charlie whitehurst, he's never thrown a pass. All the team that has him has to do is say he has upside and they can trade him for a high pick. You can spin JC being a 15th ranked qb in two different ways. The redskins have always chosen to spin it the negative way.

I'm not sure what Campbell has to do with Jackson .. but - we do have 12 guys and I'm not sure how well they are doing so far BUT I'm sure that Allen & both Shanahans are and whatever they decide is fine
I hope that Campbell plays really well for the Raiders - he's a good guy and a talented player - he was never going to be anything but ordinary here

"Jay Cutler"
"Mark Sanchez"
"Donovan McNabb" (well, that one is less of a statement)

If you consider attempting to improve your team to be negative spin... well, I just don't know what to say.
From what I can see, your response is a desperate reach. Please show me statements... heck, show me ONE statement where the Redskins made a negative remark or spin regarding Campbell.

A trade of Kelly and Horton might be enough.
dude- its not madden ..... horton and kelly for vjacks too much.......we need to make malcom our next vjack.......thats the problem all along....grabbin for others stars.......we need to focus on making our own stars instead of adopting others head aches ....especially 30 mil, 13 game vjack

Well the Mark Sanchez thing speaks pretty loudly IMO. Trying to draft somebody to replace your qb doesn't speak well for your feelings at the position.

First of all, it is only YOUR opinion that is was a "statement"... everything the Redskins continued to say, officially, was that they had confidence in Campbell. They, at NO time, acknowledged actual interest in Sanchez beyond what could be called "due dilligence"
So, you and I will have to disagree... In my opinion, voiced prior to last years draft, the real target was ALWAYS Orakpo, and the rumors of the Redskins interest in Sanchez was a ploy, to increase the likelihood that he would be drafted by a top 5 team... increasing the chances that Orakpo would be availible at Washington's pick... Hmmm... I wonder what happened?

They wanted Sanchez, they wanted Cutler. Way more than they wanted an O-line or a WR. As far as Orakpo goes, its just sheer idiocy by many teams that he slipped to us. Maybin over Orakpo will go down as one of the worst picks in Bills history, (along with BMW

They were actually the early favorites to get Orakpo. Wnen teams realized the interest, suddenly Orakpo shot up the boards. The Redskins then did what they could to generate interest in other players. They did not PLAN it to happen, but nor did they simply sit and wish. They took measures to help increase the chances of it... and then got a few idiots to help by making stupid picks. Did he "fall in their lap"? Perhaps... but they did their share of oiling the skids to help it along.
You NEVER heard the Redskins SAY they were interested in Sanchez... it was all based on rumor and second hand info. The only interest the Redskins openly displayed was when they had Sanchez do a private workout... which they routinely do with multiple players.
They WANTED Orakpo. They were surprized when he fell... but that's who they wanted... and that's who they would have taken if they had been able to trade up.
They DID want Cutler... but at the time, it was considered a no brainer that he was an improvement over Campbell. That's not spin... it's simply the fact as it was at that time. He would have improved the team. On the other hand, if they had wanted him that badly... you know Snyder... they would have gotten him.
And, you still can't cite an example of negative spin on Campbell by the Redskins.
