Will his teammates embrace him with open arms....?

"Despite my current differences with the Redskins, I have always planned to attend training camp and honor my contract," Haynesworth said in a statement released Wednesday through his agent.

The disgruntled two-time All Pro defensive tackle has stayed away from all offseason activities, including last week's mandatory minicamp, because he is unhappy with the team's switch to a 3-4 defense and wants to be traded. The Redskins offered Haynesworth a chance to find another team -- until he collected a $21 million bonus on April 1, the latest installment in the seven-year, $100 million contract he signed last year.

"As I have previously said, I am continuing to prepare for the season individually and will report on time, in shape and ready to play football," Haynesworth said in the statement. "Any issues I have with the club I will discuss privately and therefore do not plan to make any further public comments about this matter."

Haynesworth's absence at last week's minicamp drew searing comments from teammates, who called him a selfish player who is unhappy if he's not the focal point of the defense. Haynesworth will have to rebuild his relationships in the locker room when training camp begins July 29.

we don't have to like him and most fans here will hold it against him

IF he comes to camp in shape and ready to play the other players and coaches are not going to make him feel bad - this is the NFL - the players & coaches will stick together when it comes right down to it

Haynesworth has definetly not started off on the right foot with these coaches but all will be forgiven if he shows up and indicates by his condition and his attitude that he's going to contribute

I do not like how he has behaved and I cannot think that I might like him as a player but he is a force and it will be interesting to see if he has really been getting himself ready to play well and be able to contribute

if hes coming to camp its because his agent has told him thats the best way to go about getting a trade.

As for honoring his contract, why didnt he honor it by attending the mandatory sessions the team has already had.

I have a feeling he comes to camp in shape, works hard, earns the respect back that he's lost from his teammates, and earns some respect from the coaches. He then goes on to play mostly DE in this defense, likes it, and realizes he wants to be a part of this team for the remainder of his contract. Of course, I was wrong once before. From 1993 until now that is...

Even if he is in shape (& that's a big IF), he doesn't know anything about the new defense. I don't expect his teamates to have much patience as he tries to catch up.

It's really up to him - there's no way anyone can give this guy any credibilty BUT if he;s going to show up and be ready to play there's not going to be many players or coaches on our team that aren't pretty happy with having him in B&G

he's a big stupid ass BUT he's a part of this franchise and he can help if he really wants to - we shall see

Playing DE in a 3-4 isn't very complicated. Besides, during the only mandatory camp that he missed we only really practiced for one day. I doubt that he has much to catch up on.

Here's my take - Albert missed the voluntary and mandatory camps because he ate too much and decided that the $10,000 fine would be less of a problem than giving himself until the end of July to appear fit. For a player of his magnitude, he could simply lose the water weight and even in a weakened state would be able to dominate low contact practices. The statement that this was the plan all along is just barely credible.

I for one hope he shows up in fantastic shape and Shanahan finds a way to discipline him severely without cutting ties with a once in a decade DT. With the addition of Jammal Brown and this development we could be stacked with talent, aggressive, and supremely organized by opening night.

I have no doubt that skins fans and players would forgive Haynesworth for this terrible offseason if he shows up for camp and does anything to remotely look like he gives a crap.

If he comes out against Dallas in week 1 and plays well, nobody is going to care at all about what happened over the summer.

at most we are looking at one new starter on D. i think he'll be fine.

Football is not like working in any other type of business. On one hand it is called the ultimate team sport, on the business side each man is an island.

No if Al come in ready to play, there will be some that hold a grudge, but I bet dimes to dounuts that each person on that defense knows it is a better unit with AL than without.

Qustions of chemistry? Even his formaer Titan teamates acknowledge that Al marched to his own drum there and those defenses fared well. You learn to adapt to the people you work with.

I know emotional judgments will be made accros this board, but I am looking forward to Al shutting his trap, getting on the field and earning that 21 mill he just got.

What: Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth confirms via statement what he said last week – he’ll be at training camp on July 29.
So what: Haynesworth hasn’t won many allies in the locker room with his behavior this offseason, choosing to skip all of the on-field – voluntary and mandatory – activities while his teammates went through three minicamps and organized team activities. But that he’ll report to the Redskins, if he’s still on the roster, isn’t a surprise. Nothing he’s done so far has jeopardized his $21 million roster bonus (received April 1). If he had chosen to no-show at training camp, it would trigger the Redskins’ justification for getting some of the money back.
Now what: We wait for the Redskins to either cut Haynesworth, trade Haynesworth or negotiate a buy-out/release with Haynesworth. It does neither party any good to have No. 92 show up for camp knowing that he doesn’t want to be there. When he does show up, he doesn’t compliment the defense, he compromises them.
