Redskins sign UFA's

Post by fleetus »

Logan Paulsen, TE, UCLA

According to a tweet from the UCLA athletic department, the Redskins may be adding another Bruin: Football. TE Logan Paulsen is headed to Redskins as a free agent. That's 4 Bruins in DC - Horton, Medlock, Austin and Paulsen!

Some un-confirmed UFA signings by the Skins:

Abe Koroma, Western Illinois, DT 6'3" 317

Dennis Landolt, Penn State, OT/G 6'5" 306

Being a Duke fan, I saw this guy a lot the past few years. Vince Oghobaase would be a great addition to the DL rotation.

Those seem to come from an April 2nd blog post... based on the fact that they are listed in the same order, my guess is that's the only basis for these rumors. http://www.hogshaven.com/2010/4/2/14018 ... late-round

Ohio State FS Anderson Russell has signed, according to Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer: http://twitter.com/OSUsportsfromPD/status/12793031896
Since Chris Samuels, on the first day of the draft:
O-Line: 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
D-Line: 0
WR: 4

Nope, was posted at 7pm today and had nothing to do with Hogshaven. Plus, Apr2 was before the draft, they had no idea who would be drafted or not.

I did confirm Anderson Russel and one more player to add the list, so there are 3 confirmed signings:

Anderson Russell, FS, Ohio State
Marques Slocum, DT, Eastern Arizona

Oghobaase signed with the Dolphins.

Would like to see them sign Lindsey Witten. He was graded a 5th rounder by a couple scouts and at 6'5" 250lbs. would project best as a 3-4 OLB.

and Joe Webb, played QB at UAB. He might be a WR project. At 6'3" 223lbs and a 4.4 - 40, he could be worth trying out.

That's kind of my point... seems quite a coincidence that the three names appeared in order on April 2 and are popping up today as "rumors". My guess is that someone read the blog post and started repeating it as a "rumor".

Plus, Chris Bell signed with the Saints.

So 4 signings so far:

Keiland Williams, RB, LSU
Anderson Russell, FS, Ohio State
Marques Slocum, DT, Eastern Arizona
Logan Paulsen, TE, UCLA
Since Chris Samuels, on the first day of the draft:
O-Line: 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
D-Line: 0
WR: 4

There is probaby an obvious answer to this but ...

say you are the top rated QB in college and you really wanna play for the 'skins (sensible as well as atheltically gifted) , can you just leave college, do not declare for the draft , then sign as a UFA? teams sign players (eg kickers) from abroad, so its presumbly not a requirement that only people who enter the draft can be signed.

Im guessing there are rules to prevent this scenario?

Even though you would be stupid to deal with it this way, because of the change in compensation, I don't think it is prohibited by any rule. A better way to handle it would be to make your intentions known, pre-draft, that you would only play for the Skins, and hope you don't fall too far because of it.

I thought you had to wait a full day before signing undrafted players.

Um... Joe Webb got drafted. In the 6th round.

I'd like to see the Skins give Terrell Skinner, Safety from Md a chance. The guy was always around the ball.

Jaevery McFadden LB Wisc likely to sign with the Redskins (http://twitter.com/JaeMacAttack47)

Another rumor is Greg Paulus, QB, Duke may sign with the Skins. Not surprising since Bruce Allen stated they may look to add a UFA QB.
