Are you kidding me? In this era of free agency, Portis won't be around long enough to break Riggins' record!

How many years will it take Portis to.....

Post by Justice Hog »

John Riggins presently holds the Redskins rushing record with 7,472 yards over 9 seasons. How many years do you think it will take Clinton Portis to break this record?

It's more math than I care to attempt but lets see........two thousand a year...........carry the one..........uhhhh......ok.....exactly 4 years.

man... i didn't realize riggins was with the skins that long.. (9 years)

i think portis has the skills to pass riggins but... so did stephen davis... in the current nfl environment... most running backs won't be around long enough... i would say 6 years to pass riggins but i would take the under... i bet portis never will pass him... he won't be a redskin long enough....

As long as he goes out and gives around 1500 yards next year ill be happy. Ill worry about next season and the season after that when the time comes, but realistically I cant see it happenng until about 6 years if he can stay healthy.

Stephen Davis would of owned every record in the book if Steve "Fun & Golf" Spurrier hadn't cut him... I know there was issues, but Stephen Davis was needed.

Atleast, Stephen Davis is happy.

yeah, spurrier gets rid of davis, picks up canidate, and then trys to have a power running game. He gets rid of davis for smaller faster backs, and then uses them the way you would use davis. It just did'nt make sense. I like the "fun and golf" reference, how true was that last year.

Let's face it....I've said it once...and I'll say it again: Steve Spurrier's offense was not "fun and gun", it was "3 and done".

Now....back to the topic.....

I agree... He used Stephen Davis how he should of used Canidate and he used Canidate how he should of used Davis.

CP won't be here long enough. Spurrier's offense was 3 and done; CP will be 5 years and done, and he'll fall short of Riggo by less than 1,000 yards...

Why are some of you guys convinced Portis is going to leave after I while. I mean, if he consistently surpasses 1,500 yards per season, Dan Snyder WILL find a way to keep him. I see Portis being a Redskin until the end of his career BUT the only way I see him playing for someone else is if he's in an Emmitt Smith type situation. That situation isnt going to come for a WHILE.

Hmmmmmm. I really don't know, but have you seen the newest registered member of thehogs.net? President Clinton Portis! I think that might just win the name of the year award.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

I think 6 to 7 seven years. I do see him staying here that long, Joe gibbs will use him alot & he will be happy & will fall in love with Washington DC so he'll stay as long as possible. I hope!

Clinton will break it in six years, that is an average of 1245 a year. Clinton will be one of those core players that Gibbs always talks about, even if Bugel or Williams takes over for gibbs in a couple of years. Portis is still very young.

Bugel isn't taking over for Gibbs... when Gibbs is done so is Bugel... but Williams makes sense...

I'm going to vote for "President Clinton Portis" in November... that name is awesome...

i say that portis will average 25 yards per carry this season (figuring 300 carries), and get the record breaking thing over this year.

I'd love it if CP got 1,500 yards/year consistently but I don't see that happening. At best, I'm thinkin' he's gonna average 1,250 yards/year....which makes it....6 years.

The odds are CP, within 5 years, will: 1) get seriously hurt; 2) be too expensive; 3) fall out of favor with the new coaching regime; 4) get cut as Danny wants a younger, faster RB (oh oh, salary cap hell in 2009) ...or any combination of the above. With that said, I hope he plays 10 years for the B&G and smashes every possible record...
