McNabb will be 34 in November, and is playing on the last year of his contract. We need to get an extension in place, ASAP.
I agree. I suspect the thinking is that we either 1) were not going to land Bradford, and 2) whoever we could acquire would not be able to help us for at least a couple of years. Why not get McNabb for the next couple of years and have a legitimate shot at winning in the meantime until the future leader takes over.
Campbell was finished, and I doubt Shanahan thought Clausen or Lefevour could step in this year. Or perhaps we are going to trade Campbell or McNabb to the Rams to get into the 1 spot. Who knows but I'm not upset by this at all.
With all of our holes, it's going to be hard to draft a qb (while filling other needs) without a second rounder this year and a 3rd/4th next year.
Next year there will be a huge free agent crop due to the high number of players who became RFA's once the CBA was not extended. I like this trade. It's not like we got worse.

OK, I'm terrified you might be on to something, but this is how it goes down:
- Rams draft Bradford
- if the player they want at four id there they trade Bradford to the Skins for the Skins 1st and Mc Nabbb.
- Skins are left with no OL, a rookie QB (with a fragile shoulder), but hey they still have Campbell

Here is how I hope it happens:
- they sign him to a reasonable 3 or 4 year deal
- they draft Okung at #4 (or Buluga - if Okung goes to Detroit)
* or trade down with Cleveland - the Brown supposedly are swooning over Eric Berry - give the #4 for the Browns 1st, 3rd and fourth
- trade JC for a high third or late 2nd (Vikings second would fit) or Rams 3rd.
I like this move if we are keeping McNabb. If we are packaging him to move up to the fourth, then that is absolutely moronic!

It depends on who has fallen. If Okung is gone, that means either Bradford, McCoy, or Suh, is available. I don't see how we could pass on either one of them if they fall. Or possibly take Eric Berry or Baluaga at 4.

I seriously want to cry. This guy is the most overrated QB in the history of football. I said that I would that I had total faith in our Front Office, but this is ridiculous. The guy is way past his prime....which was a substandard prime nonetheless. Here are a list of "Slow Donny's" flaws:
- All he can do is throw 5 yd hitch patterns and bombs. Every other throw on the field is a crap shoot. I've watched him for years throw one hoppers on out patterns.
- He chokes in big games.
- His teammates never seem to have his back. And I'm not just talking about TO. Nobody ever comes out and says Donny's our guy.
- He gets hurt all the time.
- Did I mention that his mom is just about the most annoying person on the face of the earth.
Well, great Shanahan and Allen...you've been here a month and you've already reverted back to the old Skins ways...getting an over-the-hill QB for a 2nd and a 3rd/4th pick. This is like the Second Coming of Jeff George.
I cannot believe this. I am in shock.

I think that we badly underappreciate Campbell. The stats he put up last season were phenomenal, given the lack of OL. if he hasn't been a leader, perhaps it was because he wasn't asked to. Zorn and company, and GibbsCo2 as well, seemed to have a propensity for putting people in a position to fail (or underachieve). How are you supposed to lead your team to victory when you are sacked 60 + times? I have hated McNabb since he became an Eagle, and find myself choking on the pill of welcoming him into the fold. I have always thought he was a solid competitor, but inconsistent even with a much BETTER OL than the skins have fielded in years. To me, this reeks of Bruce Smith, though I fervently pray that I will have to eat these words.
If you don't like Campbell, remember what an upgrade he was over "hopalong" Brunell

When I heard the news I hated it. Now I have been thinking and I love it. We WILL trade JC for a pick and address the O Line in the draft. If Okung is there we will draft him, if he is not there we trade back and pick up multiple picks.
Ideally to me this would be the scenario....
Trade back to get a late 1st,2nd and 5th. Trade JC for a 3rd.
Draft 3 best O lineman with 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Draft QB (Pike) with 4th and depth with later picks.
Sign Mcnabb to a 3 yr extension and groom Tony Pike for those 3 years
Just my 2 cents

Mike/Bruce - If your going to spring big this year in Free Agency, please spring big on offensive lineman! I cant watch Rabach anymore!

You're missing the point....he's TERRIBLE. Why would you sign him for 3 years. I have laughed at Eagles fans for years for having this guy's back. Only this year, have Eagles fans told me, that they have felt the need to be loyal to him since the Super Bowl year, but they can't even deny that he is awful now and glad that management was looking to move him. I wondered who would be stupid enough to give a sub-42 pick to the Eagles for him. I didn't know that team was the Skins, and not only were we going to give our #37 pick, but also ship off a 3rd or a 4th rounder. Not since Trung Candidate and Brandon Lloyd have a scene such a ridiculous move.
Pop quiz: Why would the Eagles send a great QB to a division opponent? 'Cause he's not a great QB.

I think that this signals that other deals are in the works... but I doubt that a trade with the Rams is one of them.

Yep, pad stats and completing 3/4 of your passes behind the line of scrimmage will do wonders.
How many 'come from behind winning drives' did he lead us on?
Campbell may have been an upgrade on Brunell, but McNab is certainly an upgrade on Campbell.

The way I see it, Shanahan's job is dependent upon getting the skins to be competitive again, I cant believe that he would draft NcNabb if he didnt think it was the right move.
There is also striking resemblences with coach JG's strategy , he went out and got Brunell over Ramsey.
having watched both skins/eagles games last season I would much rather have McNabb under centre.
Be nice to see some downfield completions this season ... now if we could get Marshall or TO

Can they recoup that 2nd-rounder in any sort of JC deal? I don't see how Soup warrants a 2nd-round pick as compensation.
Also, CSN is already talking about a contract extension for McNabb is all but a given.
I'm bothered by this move having all the markings of one made by a team that feels it can be a major factor this season.
But I don't see how they can be and, truthfully, I don't know if I really want to see them try to be.
Long-term building mandates a season or two of self-inflicted suckitude -- allowing the team to bottom out and then starting all-but fresh.

This is just like 2000 all over again when we signed the All-Star Team from 1995. But, now that we've signed the All-Star Team from 2005 (Parker, Johnson and McNabb), we might as well go get TO. See if Isaac Bruce is available while we're at it.
Somewhere out there, Mark Carrier and Deion Sanders are laughing their butts off right now.
