Let's get this Running Back....
Ryan Mathews, Fresno State - Scouting Report
Height: 6-0. Weight: 218.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Combine 40 Time: 4.41.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 36. Broad: 10-1.
Projected Round (2010): Top 30 Pick.
3/1/10: The most impressive running back at the Combine, Ryan Mathews ran a 4.41 and notched a 10-1 broad jump. He also looked great catching the ball in the drills. It'll be a mild upset if he falls out of the first round.
1/3/10: Ryan Mathews has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Mathews' stock will never be higher than it is now, so he made the right decision.
11/7/09: Ryan Mathews is having an incredible year at Fresno State (1,316 yards, 7.4 YPC, 11 TDs in eight games). You may shrug off the fact that he plays in the WAC, but in three games against Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Boise State, Mathews has rushed for 486 yards and four touchdowns on 76 carries.

I have no problem with Mathews, actually I really like him - but just where do we manage to get the pick from to be able to grab him while we are doing all the other things we need to do here?
Campbell looks like he's the QB - not because he's any good, he isn't, just because we're rebuilding and replacing
Portis looks like he's the RB - not because he's going to be a great RB again, just because we're rebuilding and replacing
just where do we get the pick that allows us to grab this guy?

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

This upsets me.crazyhorse1 wrote:brad7686 wrote:When we get to the top of the second round, the best players will be Rb's. Wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if they took one.
I don't want them too, but I think they will, which probably means we'll be seeing a lot of Heyer this year.
...any given Sunday....
RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

The National Anthem sucks.
What a useless piece of propagandist rhetoric that is.

patience guys - Allen and Shanahan have a plan - let's face it, they already look like they know what they're doing and we haven't even done much

Hopefully that wouldn't be the case. Maybe Mike Gandy can play RT? He's pretty big. Anything is better than Heyer. I'm not sure any of the second round options would be great RT's anyway.

If we don't go OT, QB or QB, OT, or OT, OT with our first two picks, I will go crazy.
I have never understood why ANYONE thinks a RB can produce without a good OL. RBs need their OL WAY WAY more than even the QB position. Why would we pickup a RB at 4 or 36 when we have CP and potentially Johnson. That would be a horrible idea. In my opinion, the RB position is not a position to draft in the first 2 rounds. They have a short shelf-life and they need a good OL and QB to produce even when they are good.
Fix the line, get a QB, and then we will understand our RB needs and the position will fall into place.

RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.
Let me add my
this is now more of a pass oriented league and while a good running game is helpful it is only a part of the offense - we can get a decent RB fairly quickly but it is going to take a while to get a good offensive line and a QB to be the offensive leader
The O line is the most important factor here right now and we'll need to be getting a QB ready to play behind it at the same time - the RB can be added fairly quickly, later
