Chris Samuels HOF in or out?
I cannot in full honesty answer yes to that. I just don't view him in the same category as Jackie Slater, Anthony Munoz, or his contemporary Jonathan Ogden who I believe is HOF.
CS was a warrior no doubt. One of my favorite players of the last decade and really an all time great Redskin. Ring of Honor for sure I just don't think Canton is in his future.

Chris Samuels was a very good left tackle, but he simply didn't play long enough, nor did he have the kind of impact you need to have to be a serious HOF candidate.

He was dominant a long time. He's absolutely HOF worthy. This is the opposite of why a pathetically low number of Hogs are in the Hall. They aren't getting in because they were a team and this keeps Samuels out because he was an island.
Hail to the Redskins!

I would say no. He is a perfect example of why probowl appearances shouldn't be factored into HoF voting. He had 6 PB selections and Jacoby had 3 and Big Jake is definitely more HoF worthy.

That's probably the clincher for me. I love Chris Samuels, but he's not even first in line amongst Redskins offensive tackles for the HOF. In itself, that doesn't make him unworthy, but it does mean it will be a long time before he's considered, if he ever is.skinsfan#33 wrote:I would say no. He's probably the best Redskin of the last 10 years, but the competition has been painfully thin.

Joe Jacoby is not in the hall yet.
JOE JACOBY is not in the hall yet.
How can we be discussing CSam in the Hall when...

Samuels was a great player for us, but I'd have to say he's not an all-time great. There were definitely players at OT who were consistently better than him at the same time he played. Orlando Pace, Walter Jones, Jonathan Ogden, etc. At best, you'd say he was the 4th best LT to play during his timeframe, and honestly, that's just not HoF.

Great poll. I'm pretty impressed that the NO votes are winning out. I kind of thought homerism might skew the results.
I think we all have a huge amount of respect and love for Chris Samuels. Unfortunately the thing that will hold him back most from the HoF will be that he was on a consistently mediocre team.

I'm not going to blow myself up at the HOF induction ceremony he's eligible for in protest, but as the only verbal "homer" so far I'll address some of these points and ones already made.
1) How does it make sense to not think he deserves to be in because Jacoby should be in more? Jacoby should TOTALLY be in the HOF and if I could pick one of them to get in, it'd be Jacoby in a heart beat. But look at guys like Michael Irvin who are first ballot HOFers, how does that make sense and Samuels shouldn't be in because Jacoby should be more?
2) You say homerism, then you point out as other posters have the Skins sucked for that time. So the hogs don't get in because they were a team, Samuels doesn't get in because the other players on his team sucked. So what exactly is the criteria?
Samuels had a long career and for most of it was dominant. If you look at our players for all that time, he clearly stands out as a rock for our organization. How is that different then so many players of other teams that get in? He seems right in line.
