Taylor Mays just ran a 4.24 40yd dash

For reference purposes - Chris Johnson - RB Tenn ran the same time which is one of the fastest of all time.

Too bad his game speed is a lot slower than that. He doesn't have many int's and found himself out of position a bit but someone's going to get him who thinks they can coach him up. Al Davis anyone?

With stats like that, he'd fit right in in DC.

Overall Football Traits

Production 1 "2006: (13/12), 63 tackles, 3 INT, 3 PBU; Second-team All-Pac-10; Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year. 2007: (13/13) 65 tackles, 6 PBU, 1 INT, 1 FR; First-team All-Pac-102008: (13/13) 53 tackles, 2 TFL, 9 PBU; Consensus First Team All-American; First-team All-Pac-10"

Height-Weight-Speed 1 Rare combination of size and top-end speed.

Durability 2 Had arthroscopic surgery on his ankle prior to 2008 spring practice.

Intangibles 3 "Scouts have some minor immaturity concerns. His father, Stafford Mays, was a defensive lineman at Washington in the late '70s and played in the NFL with the St. Louis Cardinals (1980-86) and Minnesota Vikings (1987-88).

Don't really understand how he runs an "unofficial" 4.24 and then they come back and say he ran an "official" 4.43... That is WAY off. Why don't they just give you the official time the first time?

there are a lot of "official times" - take your choice - they are all "official" - just love this time of year

actually, I think I heard there are actually 4 "official" times - some pick the best and some take the "average" - it's really not that big a deal, it's just a milion or 2 per year, maybe more ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Taylor Mays is a good athlete that is true. Impressive Forty time as well.

I still think he is pure potential at this point. So far he has not shown much in terms of production. I would still take Eric Berry over him any day.
Also there are a number of good safeties coming out this year. So there is no need to reach with Mays.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

enough! we can search, scour, reach all we want for safeties in every draft. WE WILL NEVER FIND ANOTHER MEAST.

we still need someone back there to play FS...this comment doesn't even apply to the conversation.
...any given Sunday....

OK then let's pick him at #4 for a FS, let's ignore the glaring hole at Oline. Heck why not run the swinging gate play everydown, this way we get to see more of our "good" Defense. We are good on the DB's, they can hold up for another year. WE NEED A LINE to protect lionel ritchie.

Dude, you must be tired from all that JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS you're doing.

The point you overreacted to first was that we can get safeties thruout the draft. Now you're overreacting trying to imply that I said draft him at number 4. Slow down man and think a little.

We DO, in fact, need a FS. I don't think Moore's gonna do it from what I've seen. I think we've all seen enough of Landry at FS, and I still love the guy. Smoot at FS? I don't think so with the unproven young guys we have. I'm still not content with Westbrook back there. And Barnes hasn't shown much to solidify a nickel/starting position quite yet.

Taylor Mays reminds me a lot of Laron Landry. Doesn't really get INT's, always goes for the big hit, head hunter, takes bad angles, but is really athletic. Laron did the same thing at the combine; ran really fast (not quite this fast) and people thought he would be the next big thing. I would take Berry or Earl Thomas from Texas before Mays any day. I think Berry is special. But no I'm not saying take a safety with the 4th pick.
RIP SEAN TAYLOR #21

I don't think it'd be a bad idea to grab a FS with the 2nd pick.... Especially depending on what we do with the 1st and in free agency leading up to the draft.

FS has to be addressed.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!

Have I missed something on Chris Horton? I thought he was pretty decent and I think that Reed is more than adequate. I would personally try to trade Laron for a 2nd rd pick. I think that if you played Reed and Chris - that may be good enough and then we could pick up a very decent corner in the 2nd round with that pick we got for Laron. Also, there will be someone available after the June 1st cuts too that's a vet who we could get for cheap - one year deal.
