what's realistic

Post by wonker »

I think most level-headed fans agree that Philly's the odds-on favorite to win the NFC East this year (barring a TO implosion). That said, what's the prevailing opinion on what the 'skins could do, best case?

2nd or 3rd wildcard

Then we can add to Philly's pain by beating them at home in the NFC championship game

i think you'll see the exact opposite of last year. they'll start out slow, but as the season goes on, they'll pick up some serious steam, as the realization sets in that 'hey, we're pretty good!' (as opposed to last year, where at the end of the year players were asking 'what the hell am i supposed to be doing?!?') we'll fight it out for a wild card, and get knocked out in the first or second round.

Unfortunately, since there are now 4 divisions in each league, there is no home wild card berth. If you do not win your division, you cannot play a first round game at home (even if you have a better record than the division winner). e.g. last season Tennessee at Baltimore.

Guys hear me on this.

I think the Winds of the NFC East are changing.

Although Philly may have gotten Owens and Kearse. The lost 2 Pro Bowl CB's. Two Guys that were very physical and both over 6 feet tall. The majority of there people on the D-line are coming off of injuries and there LB core is gonna have to gel with Dhani Jones and besides that Simoneau, and Wayne were only helped by the great CB's. Then on offense it is gonna take some time for Owens to get used to Mcnabb scrambling out the pocket throw type of style. Philly never had one main RB, and Duce although he was hurt from time to time was still the heart of the running game, as well as a very good reciever.

I honestly think that it will be hard for Philly to win the division this year. I would not be suprised if they finish 10-6 or 9-7. With that said I would not be suprised if my BOYs finished 10-6 or 9-7. Skins 9-7 or 8-8.......Giants.......well who cares....LOL

Whatever the records.... I think the division will come down to the final few weeks of the season.... were we play the Eagles at home and the Boys on the road.... so one of us is coming out on top... and the other 2 will be scraping at a playoff spot.... heck... maybe we all get in... wouldn't that be somethin ;)

I hate to admit that I agree with Gambit (mostly).

I keep thinking about all those close losses we had last year and how many times we blew games in the fourth quarter. St. Joe and company will not allow that to happen. Also, I believe we have even more talent this year.

Then there was that first Dallas loss where they blitzed the daylights out of us. You think Buges will let that happen again? St. Joe is also the master of adjustments.

We will do fine this year. We will make the playoffs.

Right hoglover. Just like in Dallas the last 2 years of Campo. We lost the majority of our games by 7 points or less. Alot of the time we were in it till the fourth Qtr. But with a real coach we got over that hump. The Skins were kinda in the same boat. The first key to making a turn around is winning the games you are supposed to win, then pulling out the close games.

I dont think the NFC East Title is a far reach for this team.

Anyone can do it.

The Panthers had a losing season in 2002 then won the entire NFC Title in 2003.
Same thing with the Ravens, horrible one year then SuperBowl champs the next.

Hell, the 1999 Redskins one the NFC East title and they had Brad Johnson, Stephen Davis, Michael Wesbrook, and Albert Connell via Norv Turner.
This year we will have Brunell, Portis, Coles, Gardner, Thrash, McCants via Joe Gibbs.

The NFC East Title is up for grabs....the NFC Championship is another story though.

Gambit, I agree with the majority of your statement, but your forgetting one magor factor about philly. Last year there whole secondary was out the majority of the year. Dawkins was out for like 10 games. Taylor missed most of the season and so did vincent. Vincent actually didnt play in the playoffs becuase of his injury. With there whole secondary decimated they still went to the NFC championship game. Philly went out and upgraded the weakest part of there team signficantly: wide reciever. Also if Kearse can stay healthy, there a real scary team. Also Garcia was always rolling out of the pocket in san fran so Owens is used to a scramblin QB, although he dosent run as much as MCnabb. In my head I think philly is one of the top 3 teams in the NFl, in my heart i hope they go 3-13, and lose to the skins twice.

Well let's see. The Giants sure ain't gonna beat us. The cowgirls better not beat us. I think we have the fire power to beat down the Eagles. From the look of our schedule it ain't too hard. I'm gonna go out on a limb and NFC East title is realistic if not likely.

JonC i agree with you on some points, but i dont think Garcia vs McNabb running comparision is fair to McNabb he is way better at running and scrambling then Garcia. Also Philly keeps letting alot of veteran lockerroom leaders go. I think that will also play a key factor in it also.

Every year people say that. "The loss of Trotter will hurt." "The loss of Douglas and Barber will do them in." Maybe next year when they lose Simon?

Until they run into cap issues (with Dawkins and McNabb's deals) I don't see them fading back...

I would honestly be worried about the loss of veteran leadership, but with the exception of Barber they all seem to have been let go at just the right time. Again with the exception of Barber not a single player has done very well with their new team.

Mcnabb is a much better scrambler then garcia, but garcia actually likes to roll out of the pocket more then Mcnabb. For some reason andy Reid likes to keep mcnabb in the pocket. So that is why I think he'll be fine with mcnabbs playing style, but obvouisly mcnabb and garcia arent in the same league when it comes to running the football.

It's not so much that Reid likes to keep him in the pocket. Sure there aren't many called rollouts, but mostly McNabb refuses to run at times. He's taken a beating because of it.

It's true that McNabb is a better runner than Garcia, but the most important physical skills a QB needs is passing accuracy. Garcia is a much better passer than McNabb. I feel a Garcia and TO package is more frightning for a secondary than a McNabb and TO package IMO.

On the short and medium passes, I'd buy that. TO's biggest complaint about Garcia was his ability to throw deep.

But really only when they're getting along, which (thank you TO) shouldn't happen anytime soon. As for now, we'll have to wait and see if TO's ability can make up for McNabb's lack of accuracy.

So far in the minicamps he's caught a couple of balls that would have normally sailed over the receiver by 10 yards.

Ive heard Reid say on numerous occasions mcnabb needs to stay in the pocket and be a better pocket passer. Mcnabb's first instinct is to scramble around, but reid preaches that he needs to stay in the pocket, or take off and run, not scramble around in the backfield.
